Original format YsIII is not the best introduction to the series, it's the black sheep for sure. But its PC/PSP remake, Oath in Felghana, is one of, if not the, best in the series.

I did an introduction to Falcom/Ys and a beginners guide for the entire series that you can find here.

I recommend starting at the start with Ys I&II, either for PC as Ys I&II complete or for PSP as Chronicles. They're the best possible versions of the games IMO. Great fun.

YsIII MD is an okay-ish little game to play at least once, just forget it's supposed to be an Ys.
At least it's more enjoyable than the SNES version.

I have Oath in Felghana and Origins on Steam but haven't got round to playing them yet.

For all its flaws I did actually like Ys III.. it has a certain charm.
No hitstun ever and enemies plowing through dealing several hits did wear thin after a while though.

I understand the need to have DLC come extra, but would you please not call it "new content" when the main game isn't even released yet?! It only adds to the suspicion that development time on the main game is being stretched to cover DLC, and the appearance that buyers of the base title will be funding development of the DLC in addition to the base game. This might not be true, but again the appearance suggests it. At the very least, the title of that blog post is highly unfortunate.

I wish these companies would at least wait until the game comes out before announcing their DLC plans. Just knowing a game is going to get a bunch of DLC is usually enough to make me wait for a price drop or GOTY edition if it's not something I'm really looking forward to. I'll be getting TEW since it's a Mikami game, though.

I'm kind of with you on that one. In this case, I actually appreciate knowing ahead of time so that it doesn't seem like a surprise drip feed of bad news and extra dings. But it's looking like it's effectively going to be a $80 release, not a $60 one.

I'll probably be getting TEW close to straight away - maybe even the preorder depending on what I can find for it. What I really have in mind as a desired title would be another RE4, but I'm hopeful that he's already anticipated my gameplay attractions beforehand and can deliver, and I'm definitely ready to move towards a revamped control scheme (such as the game reportedly offers) with both modern and classic elements. Speaking of things, it is interesting that Cheapassgamers had a link for a $38.change preorder (via some site called g2a) for The Evil Within - too bad I missed it; it was a week ago.

Hahaha, a similar thing happened to me at my last workplace all the time, it was a long corridor with several sets of doors; if someone was walking just ahead of you the whole way they'd be opening every door. Man, I need to get a short extension cord for my headphones. Pulled that shit out the wrong way again today - getting tired of damaging nice headphones!
