Whenever I get duped to click on a clickbait article like "Looked Like A Normal Painting. When I Saw The Truth I Was In Disbelief", I get pissed when the page is a video.

Also, fuck these stupid titles.

I stopped clicking on those too. If it title doesn't tell me what it's about, I assume it's useless knowledge. Yahoo pulls those tricks on their homepage all the time.

Regarding clickbait articles, I like this twitter account: https://twitter.com/SavedYouAClick

It tells you what's the surprise inside the article so you don't need to read it yourself, almost always it's something completely asinine. That's modern journalism for you.

People shouldn't feel grateful for employment; after all, you did enough self-improvement to merit employment. Be grateful to yourself.

On the other hand, fuck you and your entitlement mindset. Yeah, managers will be assholes. Labor is a cost, not an asset. It's reality. I'm indeed grateful to have a fucking job. And I'm overeducated, overqualified, and in general too good for the job I work. But I have debilitating chronic pain. For years, I thought I would have to rely on my parents and/or disability credit to live.

But I'm lucky enough and grateful enough to appreciate that I can stand on my own two feet. I live below the FPL, and I'm nonetheless grateful to my boss for the opportunity. I've met too many people who think they're too good for a menial labor job, and elect instead for unemployment. Fuck you. Do what you can and stop bitching.

I'm 2nd gen Italian. They had to deal with far worse labor conditions than the lazy white asses I see today. And they all died millionaires, in far more hostile conditions than they'd see today. Do you think it was because they bitched constantly about racism, classism, and the broken promise of the American dream? No, it's because they understood the value of a dollar, worked their asses off, proved their value, and then made smart choices and investments and eventually became their boss's boss.

And while I sympathize that you were given a raw deal, America needs more motivated Mexican & Latino immigrants, and fewer entitled bitch white kids.

What America (and the world) needs are employers who haven't all but completely abandoned any sense of responsibility to the rest of humanity, in exchange for the immense power they wield over the lives of others; nobody would dare to discount the challenges that previous generations faced in this area, but the one thing they had that their descendants don't is at least some manner of assurance that some manner of fair-ish compensation was in store for what they endured, if not immediately then somewhere not too terribly far down the line. Not all of them became millionaires, but pretty much any of them who was willing to put in an honest day's work could find a job someplace that paid well enough to support a modest independent lifestyle (and back then only one parent had to work). To put it a different way, society at large agreed that they were entitled to at least that much, and if one employer didn't give it another one would, and the former would not only be understaffed but have both the government and a labor union breathing down its neck.

Nowadays, all that matters is appeasing the stockholders and lining one's own pockets ("greed is good"), everything else be damned, first and foremost the workers; for all but a fortunate few if you work harder all you'll be is exploited further (I imagine you've heard the myriad stories of employers cutting hours, colluding to keep employees from seeking advancement in their sector, and finding numerous other means to baldly prevent their workers from seeing any tangible results from their efforts, despite increased productivity almost across the board). Our parents and grandparents had plenty to overcome, to be sure, but this wasn't among their problems, at least nowhere near the scale it is now; this is behavior straight out of the gilded age, when employers paid workers in "company store credit" instead of money and union protestors had bombs dropped on them from airplanes. When this is the direction we're unmistakably headed in, I'm afraid that "grateful" isn't the first word that comes to mind; the rules that our forebears played by simply no longer apply, and every employer in the country knows it, though they'd never admit it.

Sorry Moniker, you make valid points about different circumstances, an honest dollar, and traditional hard working values, but I'm in the Bulletmagnet camp on this one.

You have to observe 20th century history and its deterioration of workplace standards, employer ethics, and the buoyancy of corporate corruption. We don't live in a world where a mortgage is commonly available to young hard working youth because wages have fallen against inflation every year since the 1950s.

America's model of a corporate owned, driven, and largely politically policed country has been in full bloom for several decades, probably hitting its current stride in the calamity of the Reagan era.

Talking about the hard working individual making an honest dollar and turning it into a fortune is nice and all, but woefully outdated as a concept. It sounds like the American dream, which patently no longer exists because conditions have been artificially and purposefully engineered so that the vast proportion of people on basic employment (95% I'd say) can no longer create that kind of advantage. You're talking about something that was possible when a factory worker of the 40s owned their own house, several cars, and enjoyed generous holidays: not the slave labour conditions of today where a factory worker can afford to live in a hovel getting by on food stamps.

So while I appreciate your whimsical take and old fashioned-values, I regret to say I don't think it's applicable in 2014. Education is failing, degrees are worth less by the year, who you know and inherited wealth is the new road to success, and the supposed rules employers are meant to follow is appallingly in their favour.

As ever, my advice is based only on what I know: find something you like, get really good at it, exit the rat race and do business for yourself.

If you think who you know and inherited wealth is a new road, I'm not sure what to say. This is the old standby.

Inherited wealth isn't always what it's made to be. Money is time, so often an inheritance is simply a monetary payment for lost time with loved ones. I recall giving a wealthy high school friend a ride home one night. When I dropped him off at the mansion, it was a huge, sprawling and dark place. He shrugged it off, saying he was used to it always being just him since both parents were doctors. There's a sentiment that money just makes itself, but there's usually a great expense.

Better it not get too granular. That inherited wealth and powerful relationships account greatly in the success of the fortunate is not the overarching point I was getting at - it's more the changing shape of the working world and diminishing opportunity presented by corporate strictures and political corruption.

But I don't need to go through it all again of course, it's all there three posts up.

cause a long long long long x226 time ago, it use to be respectable. i've made the same mistake and downloaded something from cnet within the last 8 years.

on topic: losing your job because your boss thinks it's a good idea to hire his mongaloid mistress as a senior infosec analyst (when her former job was as a vet tech)
and you get into an argument with her.

Similar thing happened to me except it wasn't cnet. I thought I was downloading a plugin for a video player (yes, I know. I'm a gullible idiot) and instead got one of those video players that come packaged with all that shit plus an installer that didn't have a close button. I was able to uninstall all of the programs without issue, but I'm probably going to run a virus scan in a couple days.

I know a rich family. They always talk to me in the vein of "If you work hard it will all come to you". I'm like "What you mean living in a big house like yours?" and they say "Well, in time".

Yeah right.. Its a £700k house. What annoys me is that they actually believe I can do it!!! I just sit there nodding.

The funny thing is I work in IT and they don't know anything computer related at all apart from email. I thought rich people would know a thing of two about computers, but no, they don't. Its like we were born in different worlds or something. But best of luck to them, last I heard they were on a super cruise getting serviced by a 24/7 butler. Next time I go round i'm going to hear all about their fantastic holiday. Great stuff ahead.

Recently learned that the new smash bros games don't have a story mode AT ALL! It went from Sakurai not making cutscenes because he got butthurt about people posting the ones from Brawl online, to him taking out the story mode entirely. Honestly if I heard something like that as an executive I'd have to step in. Seriously, they Wii U version better have some serious kickass modes to compensate or I'll be pissed. I can accept the 3DS version not having a story, because to me, it seems like a lighter version to go along side with the main package that is the Wii U version.

Also, Dr. Mario is back, and so is a new clone with an equally barely modified moveset: Dark Pit. Seriously? I thought you guys figured out in brawl that people don't like clone characters. You could've easily brought in someone interesting like a Starman from Earthbound/Mother series, or Magalor (or an alternative villain) from Kirby, or some other guy. I'm not going to spoil the two other new additions they have yet to formally announce, but they don't bother me as much.

Fucking Pac man, dude. -_-

Ah honestly i don't know what the rationale is. The Brawl story was great for spectacle alone but it was essentially just a very repetitive platforming beat'em up hybrid, with the labyrinth section at the end literally making you play half of it again, pretty cheap extension. I never bothered playing again after the first time, although being able to co-op it was cool.

Smash is predominantly a party fighter though, people buy it because of the 4 way item filled clusterfucks, the people who actually buy it for single player modes must be a tiny minority. Then there's the bigger minority who play it as a competitive fighter, I'm in that camp but Melee's still the game most suited for tournament play from what I've seen.
They'd tried to make a concession to hardcore players with that whole 'For Glory' mode that turns every stage into a flat surface like Final Destination. Unfortunately they've missed the point slightly there as they've removed the platforms as well as the state hazards in this mode. Platforms are a big part of competitive smash too.

At least he's completely original. To be quite honest, I have no idea how you could hate having Pacman as an addition. At least it's better than "Hey, let's bring in a female Marth!"

lol, I'm assuming by this that you've never played any kirby games before. or any non-platforming sidescroller for that matter. The subspace emissary mode was pretty much a harder version of that, with some metroidvania thrown in. I enjoyed the boss fights the most. Sure, we're guaranteed to have Master Hand and Crazy Hand, but it was fun to have more gigantic foes to fight.

I don't know people. I have my sister, who will probably play on occasion, but that's about it. I need stuff for me to do on my own that isn't less exciting because I'm the only one playing. I'm quite aware of this, though. Last semester during the last day of my Intro to Game Design class, we pulled out Brawl as well as some other games and we had a blast!

I found this odd as well. You can't just flatten an entire stage and say it's a "competitive version". What they need is an individual "rooms" system like the Soul Calibur games have with rules settings and the ability to enable and disable stages. That way, people can decide what qualifies as being fair or unfair for tournament rules or whatever. Also, is there even a rating system? If not, it seems kind of pointless.

Some of the most ignorant and incompetent people I've met in my life were filthy rich. Some born rich, some who became rich but not because they were smart or hard-working, just because they were addicted to money and ready to do anything to get more and more.
Politicians and CEO's who don't know shit about the world they live in ? They're everywhere, they're the majority sitting in head offices and parliaments.
Meeting these people, talking with them, is the best cure I know against both objectivism/libertarianism and social-hypocrisy.
Frankly speaking there are classes among the rich, but wealth is only one of the many criteria that should be used to draw the lines.

Well you know assume makes an ass out of u and me?
I'm a fan of Metroidvanias, I've played SoTN to death so I know how much the subspace emissary failed to that degree. Sure, the bosses were cool i'll give you that. Doesn't the 3DS version of smash have a dungeon mode with rougelike elements? I'm sure Wii U will have something to keep you entertained. The netcode is also gonna be a damn sight better than Brawl so online play's an option too.
Personally I won't be getting it as I don't have the consoles.
