i just checked the price of the sega direct version, i cant believe they can justify asking for nearly double for a poster and a sticker - nice tho they are they arent worth an extra $40-50

Wow, what an orgy! This is a beautiful contrast to the danmaku shooters we've been primarily getting lately (NO complaints there, but it is fresh to get something a bit different). It's weird, us shmuppers are gourmets again right now, we even get variety.

Tried regular turn first but my instinct immediately went for the reverse style. That clicked at once and I felt comfortable. This is so straight forward, yet so intense it takes me back to earlier shmups the same way it does many here. The intensity quickly ramps up, too. By the end of level 2 it's war, after that it's inferno. The amount of detail is crazy, cows with coronaries. Reminded me of the cows in Thrash Rally on the Neo, they'd "Mooh!" when you ran them over. These little touches make me laugh so hard  .

If this is it, the DC goes out with one hell of a bang.

Ahem you're getting a soundtrack CD with the LE as well.

Regular edit. = $60 (+ shipping, at Lik-Sang, Play-Asia)
Regular LE = $80 (+ shipping, at Lik-Sang, PLay-Asia)
Sega Direct LE (poster/sticker incl.) = $96 shipped anywhere on the planet via Yakumo.

So basically you can get the poster and sticker for a mere $10 extra on top of the regular LE version!
That's a lot less then the $40-$50 you are quoting, and not bad of a price to pay for nice extras imo! :D

If you buy the Sega Direct LE at segagaga domain you pay $96 shipped. If you buy the LE without poster/sticker at PlayAsia, you pay $86.30 shipped. So that's merely $9.70 for the poster and the sticker.

EDIT: Super Laydock was faster :)

come on TF i was trying to put it all in a negitive light, while highlighting a legitimate use, denying its existance is just daft, i understand you dont want the topic to be derailed but try to find a balance mate.

Yeah ok guys so you get the soundtrack too, ive got my normal version coming soon and at half the price of yours so im quite happy.

Yeah, that is the only thing I hate about ordering the Regular Edition from NCSX. Since they ship UPS ground, there are no weekend deliveries. I live so close, I thought I would take my chances and hope for an early Wednesday ship date like Rajirugi (which arrived on Friday). It broke my heart to see that it was the LE edition only to ship on Wednesday. It kinda makes me wish I had ordered the LE, for I would have it by now. UPS says I'll get it Monday--which essentially means that with work I won't really have a chance to sit down with it until Friday.

I am happy to hear that the response to the game is generally positive. This will be a lesson in delayed gratification!

Actually that's not true. Ig you ask them to ship US postal Service in the note section when you place your order they will gladely do so. I always do that and it's actually cheaper than UPS. Actually got my copy from NCS today through USPS

Hey, it looks like UD has unlockable replay vids after all, but it looks like only for the first loop.

Phenomenal! I got my regular edition yestarday and have been playing it non-stop (well, I did sleep) since then. Great graphics - nice black smoke and contrails on the massive supporting ships that fly by on stage 3. Detail is great in spots - like the reflections in the water or the rain falling on the chopper blades will make your jaw drop. Explosions are nice but they rarely leave behind debris on the field of play - Raiden 2 and Raiden DX on the PSX still holds the title for best detail in a shooter ever. I also don't like the polygon trees much in UD - again, I prefer sprite drawn brush (again, ala Raiden 2/DX).

Gameplay is oustanding - very intutive and a great blast-a-thon. It does feel very Zero Gunner 2-ish to me - more than just the similiar theme. The moving up and around large enemies to attack the sides and firing slightly crossed to your direction of movement gives me a very similiar feeling - and that's a good thing since ZG2 is one of my all-time fav shooters. But this remains more traditionally grounded as a solid vertical scrolling shooter. As for controls - they are spot on and simple. No fatigue in hours of playing. I prefer the "reverse" movement as it feels much more natural. In TATE mode, the game plays beautifully - I played this way for 3-4 hours. Then I switched to Yoko - and while the screen still looks fine (3 different Yoko modes) there is more slowdown in Yoko screen mode 1 as compared with the TATE mode. Very strange - I guess the processor has to _work_ to shrink down the image. Anyway, the extra slowdown in Yoko mode makes for much better runs for me - where it was a struggle to get mid-way through stage 3 in TATE mode, I can get to the boss in Yoko with a similiar run.

Music is very fitting - I like it better than most of the shooters that have come out in the last few years. Art and level layout is outstanding - I love the older pilot and wish that was player 1 but what can you do (other than plug in another controller!). Got my wife to play 2 player for about 10 minutes... but she said there was too much stuff to track on screen and that was that. Still, she brought me food while I blasted away so she's great and the effort of her playing was appreciated (I've been talking about the game for many months now).

Anyway, please don't pirate the game. Get your copy and enjoy what is one of the finest shooters to grace the dreamcast. Support G-Rev and get all the copies into good homes so that they will think about a 2nd print run... and make that sell out so fast that they will have to seriously consider additional small-print run games for the DC in the future. Go buy it now!

I didn't know that. If I had known, I would've asked, and probably had my copy already. Oh well. I will remember come time for my next order. Thanks for the info.

I think you just have to reach a stage to unlock the replay for that stage.

an awesome moment for me, in stage 2 I was playing 2 player and we both shot ships, which then crashed each into each other and seemed to fall down with realistic physics, it was awesome!

Also, remember what was said about stages changing with the season, well so far I've just seen stage 4 with the snow. I haven't tried changing the internal clock though.

Did you use the cheap shipping for yours as I did? I got an email saying it shipped the 22nd but I still haven't got it either.

I got my copy from NCSX yesterday (I'm practically right next door to them; they're in NY, I'm in CT), and this is one damn fine shooter. The first stage blew me away cos the trees actually react to the explosions around them. Little details like that always get me.

I just barely put in my order from lik-sang (had to wait and make sure I could afford it). After reading the past couple pages of this thread, I can't wait for it to come in. Hopefully Lunchbox will get his copy first and we can play it a bunch =D

Yes, I did. While I was really hoping it would show up today, I'm cool with waiting a bit. I mean, I feel like I'm still just starting with Ibara. In a lot of ways, UD is just too close, so I can deal with the delay.

And of course, because of that, Radilgy is getting screwed. Seemed like a nice game, but completely lost in the shuffle.

I feel the same way; awkward having to divide my attention between these two amazing new releases. They both deserve full attention.

Are you implying that the stages will change if I change the date/time in my DC ? Since it's march now shouldn't that be winter in the game ? It sure is winter outside :D
