Have you tried this? I was under the impression that the cables from the charge n' play kits for the wireless 360 controllers only carried power over USB.
Well, I just tried it with one of my own wireless pads.. I guess it doesn't work (I could have sworn I was successful with this before). As you said, it just tries to charge the pad.. won't re-sync the controller.
You need a wireless transponder if you want to hook a wireless 360 pad to a PC. I bought one a few years back. Sadly they're like $20 for a one-use wireless receiver. Doubly sad that I've moved from pad to keyboard/mouse for all my FPS gaming. But yea, the charge wire does not create a connection, just sends electricity to the controller.

Most PC STGs play well with the keyboard. Though there are some where I wouldn't even want to play them on a keyboard.

So just because you can't use a controller as easily, doesn't mean you should dismiss them.

Who dismissed controllers?

I use an Arcade Stick to play STGs on all my systems, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. I was trying to help by recommending a required piece of hardware to use a 360 wireless controller on PC. Don't understand where I dismissed them as a legitimate control method for STGs.

I meant Trouserplank dismissing PC STGs. Controllers are perfectly fine for them, but are in no way necessary.

Also DFK BL Stage 1 Boss on Strong Style, please stop killing me. It's getting really annoying restarting almost every run on Stage 1, then when I get past that I end up restarting the run due to Stage 2.

Dear Trafalgar: Fuck you.

It's annoying enough that it has a 50% chance of point-blanking you if you try to kill the upper turret, but then on top of that if you mess up the lock timing one bit or die during the really annoying second pattern you kill it too late which results in fewer popcorns and makes it hard to know whether to get over to the left immediately or not. Basically if you mistime the kill you throw off your placement for the next whole minute of the game.

Really classy there, cave.

You should switch to Ketsui Death Label for a while in which Trafalgar embarasses itself with only weak and ineffectual attacks :D

I love ketsui but the names of the bosses are fucking retarded:

Cinderella Amber being the name of the 4th boss, and Sea Horse being the stage 1 midboss stand out especially.

Who the F cares about Ketsui boss names?
More interestingly; how do you guys know these names? They do not show up anywhere in the game.

After playing Espgaluda, I've got a grievance:

Focus and unfocus, put them on separate fucking buttons, don't make me give myself carpal tunnel just to fire unfocused.

Once I was playing Ketsui Death Label on a crowded train and accidentally shouted "fuck you Cinderella" quite loudly.

This is a shmup grievance. Ketsui caused me to be socially awkward on a train.

Why would it, it makes regular shot autofire on button D and of course button A is laser.

Whenever I learn to score in a game, I cannot avoid trying to perfect the first stage. It ends up consuming my will to credit feed an learn the later stages. It's especially tiresome in games with terrible scoring systems. Like Aero Fighters Special, where you wait for items to be on screen for long periods of time before picking them up for 10,000 points.

God, this is me all over. My worst OCD experiences with stage 1 was getting the extend on the mid-boss on Akai Katana Shin and scoring the extend in Espgaluda II. Talk about restartitis.

Think I'll have to stick with my amazing 107M on Triggerheart because I can't get any more. Don't get anywhere close to it in 90% of my attempts.

Pretty good seeing as you can apparently score 170M on stage 1 alone lol....... whatever.

The medal-fusing in Jet stage 1 is pretty annoying, but it doesn't seem quite as bad as the stuff you have to do to activate X-medals in the first two games. Just don't go for that message chain at the very end with the fairy and the three tanks unless you know what you're doing. >.>

The fact that Jet makes you enter your initials before starting the game instead of at the end is pretty hilarious tho. Trolling at maximum

Activating X-medals is way easy in RF2 if you just start on the airport. It's not that hard on the forest stage either just a little slower. It seemed a little complicated/overwhelming initially but really after you just play for a while it becomes very natural. I still don't really know how to activate AND max the X-medals in stage 1 though, I'm not exactly sure how to get that last miclus out consistently and efficiently.

Huh, I'd say that's on the easier side of first stages to "perfect". a lot of people got it down in a couple days when the game was on STGT for example..

I didn't say it was hard, but there's a lot of little stuff you can screw up easily if you've been playing a long session. The RF2 first stage is very easy to perfect but I found myself making stupid little mistakes as fatigue set in and some sessions I only got past stage 2 without restarting once or twice :(

I was only aware of one Miclus in the first stage, and I use that to activate the X-Medals. I don't find it difficult to do but I have no bloody clue with its predecessors.

Stupid Question: Where did you hear that you can max them out in the first stage?
