Yes, I did mean CRS, not the Contra one, which is magnificent by the way.

No, I'm pretty sure it was on this thread.

Anyway...

Lets just say that this video has zero dislikes

Oh CRS. Yeah that was definitely in the Shumps Music thread in Shumps Chat. You can never have enough CRS! I'd post it here again anyway!

That would be a m a z i n g. Editing it in with full SFX would make a neat video project.

The X68000 has some killer arranged-esque soundtracks with its various add-on sound modules. This one particularly sticks out for me. The X68000 is such a beast!, if I were ever to buy another game system this would be it. Stonking.

X-Kaliber 2097's classy tune Welcome to my Mind has been following me for the last few days. This game in particular is an interesting case of "inverse BioMetalism" in that the western soundtrack is much better than the original SFC one. :o

What what what. The original soundtrack is an incredible work by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the western version is just stupid covers of bad 90s pop rave.

Trap, not only do most people find it rather....non-incredible, but it is also unfitting as fuck.

Captain's second remark hits the nail on the head in my opinion. Sword Maniac/X-Kaliber 2097 showcases a remarkably grim atmosphere which doesn't get supported too well by the original soundtrack. For example, this is the track that plays during the final stage – maybe it's just me but I don't get the feeling that it reflects the on-going action in a fitting manner.

Given the highly subjectively nature of this topic, I still have to apologize for my rather rude statement in the previous post. It wasn't my intention to bash one version's soundtrack. It's great to see different tastes, after all. :)

Oh lawl. I've been blasting Metal Orange music on loop all evening and only just now realised it's a Sakimoto/Iwata/Furukawa soundtrack. I did think it resembled Verytex with those huge, sweeping harmonised hooks and super aggressive rhythm lines.

CRS's soundtrack is probably my [second -- Garrega beats it] favorite shmup soundtrack of all. The whole thing gets you really into it.
Stage 0's music was my favorite for ages, but I think I'm leaning more to Stage 4 [INFINITY] these days.

that fucking FM hat is one of my favorite sounds ever for some reason
and that KkkkKkkkKkkkKkkk bass drum is so great
The song has really great sound design.

The only song in the game I'm not a huge fan of is Stage 5's theme. It doesn't fit the action on screen or anything at all. It's still a nice song, but not for this game.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

The changed music is apparently the proper version though. It sounds different because of new sound emulation. And the earlier one is much better.

Curse you Trap!

Edit: refers only to this song, not the music in general.

Yes, old MAME had it totally wrong. It's a shame everyone has probably already written off all the games I fixed as having bad music, considering everything I fixed actually has incredibly great music... Particularly Strahl.

I dunno how the hell you think the broken music was better, it's so significantly worse in every way.

Have a comparison, the video descriptions pretty much state my opinions, and I also put up MP3s.

Elevator Action (GB) title/stage BGM

I love this audacious little tune. The goofy melody and neurotically busy bassline crack me up, particularly the latter's crumpling to an exhausted halt during the wailing, willy-waving flourish. Superbly crunchy/crisp GB tone.

---

Also quite liking this fan arrangement of Dracula Densetsu II's final boss BGM Sons of Satan. The chorus melody sounds a bit stock, but the bulk of the arrangement - guttural, violently syncopated piano and spiralling metal-reinforced church organ - is a welcome beefing up. Much more appreciative of the original composition and its offbeat, aggressive grandiosity now.

Oh nice, left Youtube autoplaying and when I returned this was on: An Original Shooter Concept Soundtrack inspired by MSX Gradius 2 and VRC6, found on nico. It's lovely - totally nails the melodic flair, irrepressible bounce and sublimely counterblanaced tension of Konami's best. Could easily pass for a genuine release. Favourite from my first listen is COLONY, with its galloping pace and stoical intensity recalling Life Force classic "Thunderbolt."

Of course it is not to be confused with Axelay's "Colony," especially not in its synth blasting COWBELL TAPPIN Shooting Battle arrangement. 8)
