Long time lurker here. My name is Shelltoon, I live in Omaha, NE and I've been playing shmups for quite some time. I mostly grew up with games like Raiden, Abadox, Gradius, and the classics. I'm on the level of mediocre, but I'm trying my hardest to get better. I just keep getting blindsided by enemy fire, and using an analog stick probably isn't helping any. The only arcade shmup I can play in an arcade is Viper Phase 1. (despite having a few Galagas in the area, this is the only one I can find)

Hello!

I have only recently become really interested in the genre (I used to play UN Squadron, Silk Worm, &c.) this year when a friend insisted I play Mushihimesama Futari and Espgaluda 2 with him on the 360. I became hooked immediately, and had to get macMAME as well as those two games, and pretty much anything else I can find.

My main gaming time has been spent with 2D fighters (and Virtua Fighter), and things like Virtual On. Shmups appeal to me because I can get in the same "zone" that I do with fighters, but not have to depend on someone else being available to play. I am still fairly rotten, and consider it a great success when I can beat the first level of Futari or Galuda 2 on one life.

I prefer the vertical Bullet Hell Shooters so far, and just last week won an auction for Daioujou on the PS2 for $45. I do also enjoy Gradius and Raiden games, too.

Long time lurker, finally getting around to an intro.

Been gaming for 22 years or so - cut my teeth on NES.

I , like so many others, used to constantly upgrade my PC - a near thankless task with graphics being constantly pushed harder and harder.
A Few years ago, I gave up. Began collecting consoles.

Everything changed when I bought a used Dreamcast. The catalog of games were mostly arcade style games - fighters and shmups.

I began playing Ikaruga and Triggerheart and was hooked. Immediately it seems that the new games on the market, huge blockbusters - didn't appeal to me anymore. I had fallen in love with shmups.

I still cannot chain the entire first level of Ikaruga - but I try. And I've never 1cc'd ANYTHING except the novice mode of Mushi Futari. But it doesen't matter. It's the challenge - slowly improving my scores every day that keep me coming back.

Of course I love Cave - and my love for Cave led me to discover their roots : Raizing, 8ing, Toaplan.

MAME has made it easy to play these games in the USA - but over the last year I have begun to search for a candy cabinet. I'd really like to own a PCB of Dodonpachi, or ESP Ra. De....

Idk why I've been such a damn lurker on here for so long. I've been into Shmups since Capcom's 1942, worked at an arcade as a tech for 6yrs in the 90s and fell in love with Seibu and CPSII shooters as they came in. After joining the military I basically lost the genre until I got to stay in Japan in 2005 at Yokota AFB. During a month of downtime training troops the genre came back into my life by Cave, where 3x a week I visited Akihabara and fell in love with Dai-Ou-Jou, Ketsui, and Ibara. After leaving the military in 2006 I moved back home and finally had a suitable place to purchase cabs, relive and start new experiences in an Industry I left and basically died in the US while I was gone...

Woah, nowhere near as dedicated as any of you new guys there Pretty new to shmups myself, wasn't really a fan of them before until last summer when I went on vacation to a land of no internet so I decided to bring along a couple of cave shmups and sort of got into them. Lost the interest when I came back though. Got back into them couple of days ago; was bored so I decided to fire up MAME and play something, and while configuring the key bindings I realized it supported joysticks natively, so I wanted to see if my Xbox 360 Hori stick worked, and after a lot of frustration messing around with drivers and modules (Sometimes I hate Linux <_<) I got it up and running ^^ Sort of felt like I had setup my own poor man's cab, just had a cheap stick and a normal screen lol but I guess I loved the feeling of using the arcade stick and got hooked heh.

Now I'm just messing around with random shmups; Raiden, Perfect Cherry Blossom, Giga Wing, ESP Ra De and mushi. Haven't gotten very far on any of them, but at least it's fun, and someday I'll finally be able to brag to everyone about how I 1cc'ed some random shmup

I get on with most variations but tend to prefer Horizontal scrollers for some reason, only by a very small margin though

I'm working towards a career in game design. I want to bring back the old, more rewarding "arcade" style of gaming, where triumphing over something difficult results in a sense of satisfaction and triumph. I love games in genral, and I see them as more than just a way to blow off time.

I have very strong opinions, and I also kind of enjoy trolling, but only when it suits my purpose.

Hello, I'm new here and also quite new to the shmup genre. I was searching for some shmup info and came across this great forum.

I've started gaming on an Atari ST but really got into it with the NES. The first shmup I'd ever played was Super R-Type, and after that Axelay and Super Aleste. After those games I didn't play any shmups until Ikaruga hit the 360, I played that for a bit and never got back into it.

Then I got ESPGaluda on the iPhone and things started to click; now I just bought a ntsc-j 360 and I already got a few CAVE games for it. The games are really kicking my ass but they are so addicting, so now I'm looking forward to a future full of shumps I think I'm already becoming a CAVE fanboy

I've started gaming on an Atari ST but really got into it with the NES. The first shmup I'd ever played was Super R-Type, and after that Axelay and Super Aleste. After those games I didn't play any shmups until Ikaruga hit the 360, I played that for a bit and never got back into it.

Then I got ESPGaluda on the iPhone and things started to click; now I just bought a ntsc-j 360 and I already got a few CAVE games for it. The games are really kicking my ass but they are so addicting, so now I'm looking forward to a future full of shumps I think I'm already becoming a CAVE fanboy

my name is Nick. from NY. I am a long time member on klov, and shoryuken. I just got into shmups with the deathsmiles release. I have always liked raiden and the 194x series but now I wanna take it more serious.

I own a mortal kombat 2 cabinet, a 3in1 casino games, and a jamma cabinet as well with numerous boards. I want a candy cabinet bad though.
I used to have a donkey kong jr/galaga/dig dug/ and 2 pins but trading them has me where I wanna be.
