your need a D/A converter between the Edge and the SLG.
I haven't tried it. I think my 50pro didn't like the 1080p of the XRGB. You will also end up with less perfectly aligned scalines unless you activate dot by dot scaling. Overall not worth the effort unless there's anything specific you want to achieve. Source > Edge > Fury > SLG will likely look better.
Forgot about the fury. After running emulators (PS3 component, PC VGA) through the XSelect/SLG3000, I'm somewhat disappointed with B1. I prefer the processed image quality, but I like playing on original hardware. I'm probably getting an Edge to use as a hub, to help stabilize B1 and for movies... where's that Frame Meister again...
Winni and Jochen (bencao74) created the SLG3000 and Jochen's selling it on his website ( http://www.arcadeforge.de/ ). I'll update the initial posting once I get around.
I got mine last night and had some fun testing it. However I was kind of surprised when I took it out of the box switch 1 actually fell off. I'm wondering as to how I should replace this?
Also looking over the pics, I'm wondering exactly what settings am I supposed to have to get scanlines like this? http://picasaweb.google.com/vomitus.rec ... 2755826370 I run a crt VGA monitor so that's got me trying to figure out if they were natural on lcd or am I missing something?
Don't mean to sound prude, but I had to bookmark the image page and original thread in german since they were edited out. Do you really think those ain't of interest for newcomers to document in it's development anymore?
Okay, I replaced my HDFury with a HDFury2 and now the SLG rapidly oscillates between odd and even scanlines via 480p PS3. Needless to say, this looks terrible. 720p works just fine. I tried all the DIP settings. Is there anything else I can do here?
The HDFury2 outputs line out or optical audio and has automatic image centering. Centering is only an issue with 720p signals, 480p works fine from what I remember.

You need to alter the sync polarity from the HDFury2 to the SLG. If you have no way of doing that on the HDFury2.... welcome to my world of pain I had with my line doubler. lol Although I managed to fix it in the end by building a sync polarity changer.
HI
I have readed the many posts and replies with great interest.
The second release will get a possibility to change the sinc polarity via DIPs.
I will make my mind up this prob and work it out.
At this time I think, the DIPs 1, 2 and 3 are not really needed.

Whilst not needed by most people it would certainly be a good addition imo. For the low price of the additional chip it makes sense to include if possible.

Agreed.
(Denke ich auch)
and thanks for your nice little device Winny!

Should get it delivered tomorrow so will let you guys know how it turns out.
You're getting slowly dragged in too eh? I tell you there's no going back now... your wallet will be empty and you'll spend more and more time thinking about how to rewire things with minimal cable-lenghts. The doors to the abyss are wide open now.

But why!!?? I already have CRT Arcade Cabinets for direct connection of my retro stuff, a line doubler and a couple of scalers! I must be mad!

I was talking about this last night with Winni and my idea was to make a modded vga cable for adjusting sharpness so I can gain dithering or control just how bad I want the pixels to appear. So far, I'm thinking I could strip a link from GND and wire 10nf or 100nf condensers to red, blue, green, but I'm thinking I should put in a toggle switch in order for this to have an on/off functionality. Also instead of a switch, I'm also wondering if I could use a dial so I can change the level of sharpness accurately. Do they make those?
For adding this with SLG it should be a good side project for me since I always wanted to get games the proper look of an older crt monitor, but it's needed as the issue with dithering always gets ignored and I'm pretty tired of it.

Pots would be the cheapest route I suspect and would do the job nicely for surface mounting.
What exactly do you mean by "issue of dithering" ?

not worth the effort. If you really want analogue VGA sharpness control (which is basically a bad thing, since it does nothing to add edge enhancement and ringing), just get a RGB Interface from Extron which has Gain and Peak control. Just look around. They are often so cheap that it's not worth doing it on your own.
headlesshobbs wrote:I'm not sure if I've seen any that come with 15 pin connectors, could you give me a lead on one?
Not sure what you need 15 pin connectors.... you would need to take each R G & B signal and run them through a rotary pot (after the capacitor), or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?
I received my SLG3000 in the mail yesterday, and today got the opportunity to hook it up. My setup went like this:
PC Engine Duo RGB out -->
XRGB-3 in B0 mode, 1920x1080 -->
SLG3000 -->
TV
The results were fantastic. Both my Neo Geo and PC Engine never worked well with the XRGB-3 in B1 mode, so I've never been able to play games on them with scanlines - until now.
Just want to thank the creators of the SLG3000 and the regulars on these forums who not only introduced me to the SLG3000 but tested and validated it as well.
so, i've read through the whole thread but i still haven't figured out one thing: is there a decent, sub <$100 solution for a scaler that goes in between a nes and the slg3000? anything really barebones that basically upconverts 240i from a composite source to 480p. would one of those cga>vga scalers from ebay work for a nes? it's a shame the hd box doesn't take composite and sub 480p resolutions. it's certainly cheap enough. i supose those scart > vga converters are useless if you're using a scart cable that carries a composite signal, right? can anyone maybe recommend a specific cheapo upscaler for this particular use (nes composite -> *upscaler* -> slg3000 -> tv)?
