when you work your way up to the better players you start to see a lot of variation. lot of ST heads playing zone-style ryu/sagat, rushdown balrog, off the wall vega, tick trap zangief, etc. it's odd how well you can apply ST mentality to the returning characters. would of been nice to see some of sirlin's hd remix additions added into sf4. i miss having honda's fireball canceling jab torpedo. good ryu/sagat matchups are a real bitch again.Cthulhu wrote:Oh, and I HATE Ken. From what I've been hearing (I have a lot of friends who own the game, me not so much

It's true that there's more variety in the non-ranked matches. That said, I think I'm enjoying the ranked ones more overall. Feels like I'm progressing more, and I feel pretty damn good when I can win matches using an uncommon character.

hopefully i will get to play this tomorrow and my TE stick will finally turn up
(£69 cost price baby)
i was a bit disappointed to see vega at the bottom of the tier list, as he's my main in ST (cheese FTW). but then, and i know it's still early days, the gap between top and bottom tier is actually pretty small
is the prima guide worth getting?
hopefully in 4CE or whatever, we'll see more sf3 chars

yeah... ken is fucking all over the place. constant battle against a small army of kens.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The thing I find pretty funny is that everyone who is repeatedly picking Ken, Ryu, Sagat and Akuma pretty much blow. I have been playing Cammy pretty religiously and have had the least trouble with people using those characters....especially Akuma. As far as people quitting out of rage, it's been happening to me a lot lately. I notice when you really outwit someone, mainly those who can't do much but throw hadokens or start combos with blatant jump ins, they ditch pretty quick. I had one guy ditch when he started the match by throwing two tiger shots, both of which I focus cancelled.

Yeah ive never lost against an akuma player in ranked matches. you can also tell when there about to do there super becuause they stand there doing punches and kicks in the hope it pulls off. I must admit I do not like akuma in this game at all. I used to pwn with him but he sucks in this.jormungand wrote:The thing I find pretty funny is that everyone who is repeatedly picking Ken, Ryu, Sagat and Akuma pretty much blow. All to oftenken players use there dragon punch from downward blocking so if you go strait to the down back block you block the highy likely dragonpuch or dragon punch EX which you then either grab him or do your own EX/ultra/super on him.
I dont really use the supers that much i would much rather punish people with ex moves and attaing an ultra is inevtable if you focus and or take a few hits (everyone does) that said its not uncommon for me to perfect people. Ive found battle points does not = actaual skill

I had my first two perfects tonight against people with about 3 times as many battle points as I had. On the upside, I see more people using some more random characters. I got totally destroyed by a guy who was using Abel tonight, it was the first match I've played against a person who I could tell really had a firm grasp on how to play that character.Lordstar wrote:Yeah ive never lost against an akuma player in ranked matches. you can also tell when there about to do there super becuause they stand there doing punches and kicks in the hope it pulls off. He is one of my options. I see a lot of potential for all three (El furete included) Ruffus seems like he could be a very dangerous combo monster. Abel is the easiest to play as out of the four but he is fantastic. Elfrute dashes at you can can get just about anywhere on the screen quickly and attack from that point just as quickly as he got there. Viper is a fucking KOF character (nuff said)jormungand wrote:I had my first two perfects tonight against people with about 3 times as many battle points as I had. I can understand why people use ryu and ken as there super easy to grasp and old faces and all but they have been nerffed so much its crazy. Same with akuma is has a good ultra and super but everything else is pretty tame. I dont even feel there is a trade off between his power and speed vs his inablity to take dammage.

lol for real. the funniest thing is they won't give that shit up. they'll stand there a solid 10 seconds if you let them (and i sometimes do) punching air until it comes out. then i jump backwards as they come flying forward, kick them in the face on my way down and knock them out off it.Lordstar wrote:Yeah ive never lost against an akuma player in ranked matches. you can also tell when there about to do there super becuause they stand there doing punches and kicks in the hope it pulls off.
he's actually pretty decent in this, but i'm still working on timing/spacing for a lot of his old third strike tricks. i can still successfully run fireball lockdowns and demon flip lockdowns with him. i really haven't figured out a solid way to connect raging demon yet, although whiffed short hurricane kick right into demon as you land seems to catch people off guard pretty well.I must admit I do not like akuma in this game at all. sounds like your Akuma will be a lot of fun to play against! I ask . . NAY! I DEMMAND A FIGHT!

im pretty sure it is. . . . Some who uses him mentioned it tonight to me. Not seen it myself thoughDiabollokus wrote:That Ken flowchart is f**king genius, I'm definetly buying this game. Bottom tier. Horrible start-up on specials, terrible damage scaling and the loss of mask costs him an extra 25% damage received, supposedly offset by a 25% increase in damage dealt but more often than not rendered useless by a missing claw too. Why do Capcom hate the Spanish ninja so?Damocles wrote:So, how is Veg....er...Bal....er...Claw?
Still, there's something satisfying about playing as a bottom tier character. Not to mention that the gap between tiers is far less pronounced than something like 3rd Strike.

If you are playing Akuma, be prepared to whiff your Super and Ultra on anyone with more than 5 brain cells. His Raging Demon (AKA Instant Hell Murder) is his Super (LP, LP, Forward, LK, HP) AND his Ultra (LP, LP, BACKWARDS, LK, HP). Very satisfying to get off, but after the first time you're unlikely to get anyone by suprise, and you can't really punish with them unless they missed something with HUGE recovery (Like maybe a HP Shoryuken or a missed Command throw from Zangeif). Otherwise, expect to see a lot of people jumping out of your way.Diabollokus wrote:That Ken flowchart is f**king genius, I'm definetly buying this game. Damn. I loved him in A3, and actually got good with him in the 2 series. I always figured that he had an advantage (if you played him well) since he's nowhere near an ARK-style fighter.Rupert H wrote:Bottom tier. I suck at cod4 though so, it might work both ways!
I'm a Halo 3 monster with monster team8s, been reviewed between 200 and 250 times, only positives are from the guys on my friends list. I suppose being spawn killed 5 times in a row can be quite upsettingwhat's the story morning glory

I think Akuma is decent in this, minus the cruddy super/ultras. Since those moves are rather important in terms of dealing damage, it definitely drags him down though.
Agreed that Abel is fun. I have a hard time approaching with him, but once I'm in, the pain is proverbially on. Lots of fun combos with him.
Mr. Spanish Claw Guy is better than most people give him credit for imho, but he's definitely a lower tier character. His super and ultra are way too easy to dodge. His range is great, however, as expected.
I think one of the other reasons you see so many Ryu/Ken/Sagat players is because their ultras are so easy to mix into combos. An easy ultra equals lots of free damage.
On a separate note, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone play Seth or Gouken.
