Jesus - that was by far the weirdest wedding I've ever seen o_O.

Yamato live action is supposed to be OK, but yeah I'll give Crying Freeman a miss :p.

I just looked at a scanlation of Mad Bull 34 manga, if anything it seems even more crude! - It actually shows the emm 'cure for shock' which is suggested at the start of the first OVA.

Alright, dudes... I tried Vinland Saga. I'm sorry, I can't do it. About halfway through an entire volume and I haven't found myself enjoying it one bit. Can't stand any of the characters, especially the stereotypical precocious child warrior prodigy, the axe throwing hardass captain with the perpetual smirk, and especially the humpty dumpty comic relief enemy. I find that the character faces are really incongruous with the surrounding art. The artist is certainly talented, but the characters don't match the otherwise highly detailed art. Death is everywhere, but I can't take it serious. I find it very reminiscent of early Berserk, which kinda suffered some of the same problems.

I'm admittedly pretty picky, but I can't ever seem to get into current manga much anymore. I just want a super dark story with adult men, dammit.

I have to admit this is something put me off jumping in - I have quite a big interest in matters Norse, well ok mainly in matters Hiberno-Norse, so I am going to give it a proper go though. Does it cover any of their interactions with Scotland and Ireland?

Please give it a second chance. The manga changed from shonen to seinen on the 3rd volume. The story and characters are more mature and art it's much better from there on.

Ohhhh, was not aware. I was kinda hoping that was a possibility. I'll probably continue. I mean, I was reading it at work, so I can't really complain there.

For real, you're just getting started. You want super dark story and death, that's exactly what you get. I was thinking this morning (on chapter 30 now) that it's like HnK but from the perspective of the biker gangs rather than the defending hero.

I love (and I mean love!) Yukimira's art. His characters are a fresh step away from the conventional and full of expression. He gets the humour just right for me, as he did with Planetes.

Vinland isn't to be brushed off lightly, that's an award winning work you have there!

I've read 3 chapters of Johnny Ridden now - I really like the kinda 'old war stories' feel to it, and of course, well I like the mecha.

hmm...I'm instantly reminded of these few panels. How comparable is it to Shigurui, if at all?

Bar being a seinen, nothing like it, it's completely different. I suppose they're both based in history, although Vinland Saga is arguably more accurate since it's uses real historical figures and events for its backdrop.

Vinland has more humour, often very black, more characters and more impressive character development, and an overall more assured level of storytelling and pacing. It's the better of the two, and considering how superb Shigurui is, that gives an indication of the achievement.

It's like Fist of the North star, with Vikings, but ten times more intelligent.

I saw skimming through some episodes last night of Coppelion, I saw a huge mech spider in one of the episodes(I help re-encode for a site), so that peaked my interest, so I ask, is anyone watching Coppelion, and if they are, is it worth watching?

Watched Chaos Head about a week ago. It's a great mindfuck, and now I'm watching Steins; Gate, which is better imo.

From what I heard it's flop of the year about genetically engineered girls crying for no reason while doing cute things in postapocalyptic landscape

For Raytrace,

Here's the very first episode of Dorvack up & running on YT for your viewing pleasure:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BQCBnrvf20

and be sure to check out the Dorvack Powered Armor OVA short on YT as well.

For some odd reason, the "Special Armored Battalion Dorvack" anime series never aired on the U.S. TV airwaves back in the early 1980s (despite the fact that it was easy to buy the cool Gunze Sangyo produced Dorvack plastic model kits & various Tatakotu Toys produced Dorvack die-cast metal toys on the cheap back in 1984-1987 stateside -- these were all NOS that weren't selling in Japan anymore and imported to the USA to get rid of excess stock/inventory...American toy stores were eager to sell them at discounted prices due to the Transformers & Robotech TV series craze/fad going on in the USA back in the mid-1980s). When Bandai bought Tatakotu Toys, the original molds for their Dorvack toys weren't used anymore but for the fact of acquiring the more valuable IP rights to the famous Macross Valkyries 1/55th scale transformable toys. And as the ol' saying goes, the rest is history. So yes, Tatakotu Toys produced some memorable die-cast metal toys based on the Macross, Orguss and Dorvack anime series franchises amongst other anime series that they did back in the early '80s -- they sure do fetch some insane prices on the secondary collector's mecha market nowadays (especially if in mint, unopened and pristine "C-10" graded condition).

Of course, with the Transformer toys of the G1 lineup back in 1986 for the U.S. toy market, Roadbuster and Whirl are the same mecha featured in Dorvack but portrayed as VV-54 and VH-64 mecha units respectively.

thanks - very interesting PC E :) - I can't actually understand Spanish (Italian?) though unfortunately :( - I was checkin through /m threads and stuff and I don't think it's on the list to be subbed anytime soon unfortunately - the art looks really nice I think.

Looking at the 'things other people searched for' on Google brought up 'Baldios' - that looks pretty ace too :).

I know high school romance/drama isn't the cup of tea of the crowd here but I'll throw a recommendation for this season's White Album 2.

- Protagonist wins huge points for being the opposite of the Shinji Ikari stereotype that affects every main character in this kind of show. He's a social, hard-working individual who's not afraid of taking the initiative when he needs to.
- All the characters are likeable and they all have an actual reason to fall for one another.
- Fanservice and overall silliness are kept to a minimum.
- Soundtrack is amazing.

So yeah, I'm enjoying it very much. It helps that it's an adaptation of one of the top rated visual novels ever made (not translated yet unfortunately).

I liked it, art and story wise and to see these 4 in the same room was pretty cool:

at episode 16 of Nadia - it is interesting how Evangelion the last episode was (well obviously vice versa). The one where emm people die, but there was lots of sortof internal monologues and emotional stress in a very Eva style, even musically. Also another very Eva thing is I get the feeling the 'running out of money' thing is happening to this too by episode 16, there are a TONNE of constantly reused cels in it, and 'long pauses' :p - though I still enjoyed the episode.

Just finished reading Eva's manga. Took me 16 years, didn't like the last chapter.

On the other hand, I've been reading Hitoshi Tomizawa's works (Alien 9, Battle Royal 2: Blitz Royal, Milk Closet) and I'm in love with them. Can't recommend this guy enough.
Fuck, why Yume Nikki's new chapter is taking so loong?!

Yes and No, it's similar to The End, but the last chapter is completely original.

Started watching Gundam AGE. I'm not sure why people hate it, it seems to be on par with earlier series.

Considering I've just finished watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica (recommended for everybody!), which of the following has the least angst and tragedy?
  • Redline
  • Armitage III (OAV + Dual Matrix)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam (movie trilogy)
  • Wait for Bubblegum Crisis
  • None of the above, I should buy something lighter

Probably REDLINE. No bullshit; just cheese, action and a fucking killer pompadour.
