Not sure where else to post this because there isn't really a "miscellaneous shit that happened to you" thread.

There was a power outage today that lasted from around 8:00 pm to 10:45 pm and I heard a loud popping sound like a gunshot when it happened. Anyway, it was kinda fun at first because all the neighbors were talking and it was nice to see social interaction in what's usually a desolate suburb. I lied outside on the lawn for a bit until it got dark and everyone went inside. I couldn't see a damned thing in my house and it was really nerve racking. It didn't help that my dad and sister were both gone. (and are still gone at the time of this post) I kept going outside wandering around randomly. I discovered that the power outage only affected my street, and half of its connecting street. There were a couple of utility trucks (not sure what you call them) driving around checking various houses, and they eventually left and the power was still out. So I was getting worried so I wandered around some more, but the power came on during my walk and I was so relieved. In a house, middle of the night, no power. Not something I want to experience again.

Last week, the New York Department of Housing Preservation and Development approved a request by a swanky new condo on the Upper West Side to have a separate entrance in a back alley for its lower income residents (in New York City that means people with an annual income of $51,540 or less).

The front doors, meanwhile, will be reserved for wealthy tenants only.

I hope some rich folks get that poor stank rubbed all over them while trying to flee into their rooms.

Have great fun reading the typically bullish-on-banks WSJ coverage of that here. I'll admit, saying that it's "anti-Occupy" does muddle the message over "anti-democracy movement." Occupy never was known, in its original incarnation, for being on-message. But let's see if the protesters in Hong Kong, a place with a distinguished recent history in this kind of thing, can show the way.

That beast can't be tamed in this way, but I hope the protesters can at least make good use of the big companies instead of being maneuvered out of the way.

...but that's the best time to experience it! Well, depending on your schedule. I haven't thought of this year as particularly problematic, but there's been lots of little outages here in the last year and a couple rather sizable ones in the last year or so. Been fortunate to be outta town during the longest recent one.

Anytime I watch a movie or TV and someone is supposed to listen to a song, or worse, clap along and it's super obvious that there were no music for the actors to act to so it's completely out of sync. If you're lucky, it's just for a few seconds, but sometimes it's a whole damn scene. It's so damn sloppy.

Reminds me of when some troglodyte cunt stole my lenovo laptop a couple of years back. Had a password, the Keyboard was busted from when i'd spilled beer on it before, so I had a USB keyboard that they didn't steal. It also overheat and shut itself off in about 10 minutes, even under light loads. I suppose they did me a favour but it still creeps me out slightly to remember there were vaguely personal documents on there.

That moment when you have a dream where you get arrested. It wasn't exactly a realistic version, but it was still upsetting. I ended up waking up at about 3:45 or so because of it. It made me kinda worried and depressed, but then when it subsided and I told my dad he said something to the effect of "what the hell, you're that last person I'd expect to get arrested." (I'm somewhat docile irl) This made me feel much better.
