Would you mind taking a close-up shot of the 3DS XL with Ketsu (so the pixels are visible)i? I'd like to see how playing a DS game with it looks compared to the screen of DSi XL (which I have).

I don't wanna know how much that one cost you! From what I saw, it looks like the dial paint could flake, so if that didn't happen here then that is a real gem.

I liked it so much I bought another - this one has degraded on the numerals but it's still presentable.

I also picked up this, which was less expensive but more rare:

The pixels are much clearer on the DSi XL screen. I'm still using my DSi XL for DS games.

I will PM you later with a closeup picture of Ketsui on the 3DSxl.

Found a Time Crisis 3 box with two orange GunCons in it for $9.99. Also bought a couple $1.29 Camelion CR2032 batteries, and two Master Lock 911 padlocks, the kind that have a yellow covering, and a more or less watertight seal between the shackle and the body of the lock.

I like the locks a good deal, although I later discovered there's a new 931 lying around (the sides of the shackle are shrouded on the 931). The only annoyances with the 911 are: The shackle isn't *quite* as thick as the standard #5; it's not a fully weather-resistant model nor does it boast the "bump stop" technology (but really who cares); the shackle doesn't pop open (you have to pull the entire lock downwards after turning the key to release the shackle), and finally - most importantly - the weatherproofing base seal pad is fiddly, a bit hard to open and close (there is a little slit in the lip to let you put a dime or something similar in to pry it open, though). I meant to replace two locks; one was a #5 that was a lot less rusted and easier opening than I had remembered, which will stay in place for now; the other was a #3 with a narrow, long shackle that was awkward to get in place, and the top of the lock body was thoroughly rusted, so that one's replaced.

I am wondering who made this ugly little blue-bodied padlock with "Popular Mechanics" branding on the side. It's been a while since I've seen the thing; found it in a toolbox. I see a patent number listed on the bottom so maybe it's another Master in disguise.

I also rather wish I'd known about Medeco/Assa Abloy padlocks before this, but eh, you can't have everything, also they're really more expensive than needed for the equipment and the handle, and I don't want to give the totally wrong impression of what's locked up as overly desirable  Medeco would be a good name to keep in mind if you need new locks for doors and so on - apparently Medeco is to Schlage for deadbolts and the like as Schlage is to Kwikset.

From my lady for my birthday. Was a no brainer in the end, I saw all the colours up close and the red had it by a country mile. Red and black is a good pairing and it also equates nicely to a certain plumber's attire. If there was a white in Europe however, I would have gone for that instead.

omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg

I just bagged a 40" Samsung LCD (LN-S4096D) and a 60GB Gen1 PS3 for $200

Pic of the TV (it's from my office - we're moving to a new office so I jumped at it)

Image

It's an older model (2005 I believe), but the good thing is it has tons of inputs. Two HDMI, VGA, two component, s-video and composite. Also has a "game mode" that's designed to eliminate lag.

Unfortunately I won't be able to wall mount it in my apartment, I'll have to use the stand (no tate :( ). But still, I'll be moving from a 27" CRT to this. Finally progressive scan for PS2 and Wii!! And also super psyched about the PS3 as well. I'll have to see how good the PS2 backwards compatibility is before I decide to get rid of my PS2 slim though. For one thing how do you connect PS2 controllers? The PS3 only have USB ports ... I wonder if my EMS USB2 will work? (PS2 to USB adapter)

And besides the PS2 slim is too too sexy.

Just received this in the mail. I actually found a loose copy, without the book and missing the other book inside the DVD case too, while on vacation in Japan recently.

I passed up on that copy and was hating myself for it. But in the end I think it was fate or something, as I ended up getting this (still sealed too). :D

So, funny story ...

I was doing some tidying up in the office, prepping for the move, and I found the accessory box for the TV. How did I know it was the accessory box? Because it had the model number on it. But wait a second ...

LN-S4696D

Um, yeah ... it's not 40" ... it's 46"

So yes, I got a 46" LCD TV AND an A01 PS3 for $200 8)

I found the PS3 box as well, and it had the original receipt inside.

$659.99 + taxes.

And I believe the TV was something like $3,500 when it was bought.

For shmuppyLove,

Just pick up a pair of Pelican PS2 to PS3 Adapters and you're good to go (if you want to use dedicated PS2 gaming controllers on your PS3 console setup). Plus, they have absolutely no lag which is ace in my book. Works like a charm on my old-school fat 60GB HDD endowed PS3 console. They first appeared at retail back in early May of 2007. I bought one when they first appeared on the market and bought a second-hand one as a backup for a mere $2.99 USD at the local Gamestop. Are certainly worth their weight in gold.

Delving into PS3 based arcade sticks, the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 and it's counterpart, the Hori RAP 3 SA variant utilize a wired USB cable to interface with a PS3. Hori made a wireless PS3 joystick as well but it'd been discountinued since then.

Alright good to know. I'm going to try my EMS USB2 first, as it's supposed to work with PS3, but I'll keep an eye out for the Pelican ones as well.

A big haul of stuff came in last week... Been letting these build up at the proxy service warehouse.
Was finally a decent enough amount to issue the shipment request. Saves a little bit on shipping when
I bulk it out a bit.

Image

Some Hudson stuff

Image

Super Mario and Star Soldier records. Always loved the cover art for Star Soldier.

Image

Been wanting the Konami Shooting laserdisc for a while. Also a Street Fighter 2 "history" VHS

Image

SEGA Megadrive promotional laserdisc

Image

Didn't know of the PS2 sequel for the PC-Engine classic on the right

Image

Valis visual chronicle (all the cut scenes) and Valis Complete. Valis Complete is all 4 games for PC and a little statue.

Image

Y's I & II for PC. The box has a cool shape of a book

Image

Image

SF Zero 1 & 2 for my PC game collection

Image

Picked up SS2 for PC out of curiosity. Some of the screenshots looked different from other versions.

Image

Love the SEGA Consumer History book. Covers all console hardware and some games all the way up to Dreamcast.

Image

Image

Image

Image

PC-Engine literature

Image

The failed SuperGrafx accessory

Image

Stylus and printer for PCE

Image

A portable mod? Maybe done before the GT and LT came out...

Image

Another book on SFC games. Also Gameside's tribute to Capcom. Love the Gameside books, especially the ones for shmups.

Image

Reference for titles on the original Gameboy

Image

PC-Engine CD magazines. Each issue comes with a disc with demos and such.

Image

Taito nostalgia TV-game. Comes with Legend of Kage and Gladiator. Bubble Bobble LCD game.

Image

Picked up another PS3 NeoGeo stick. Finally got around to getting Crossed Swords 2.

Image

Been looking for this manual for my Samurai Showdown Pachislot for a long time ...

Image

Image

Filling in some holes in the Wonderswan collection

Image

Some Mark III

Image

Had the Irem double game pack with Hammerin Harry. However wanted the stand alone original release too.
Heard some good things about the Ruroni fighting game. Seems to go for quite a bit on YJ and Ebay.

Image

Some misc stuf been meaning to pick up

Image

Sakigake!! Otokojuku. Interesting looking fighter based on an old anime I used to watch. Art style was a bit
Hokuto no Ken-ish.

Image

Image

Gameboy stuff

Image

Image

Got another TMNT and Rockman 4 (good deal). The SD game (top left) looked like an interesting platformer.

Image

Love the wacky Crayon Shinchan platformers. Also love Battle City. The first famicom game I ever played.

Image

Got another Rockman 2 (good deal). Zeoth looked like a nice action game.

Image

Contras, hard to find boxed.

Image

More action platformers

Image

Parasol Henbee (middle), action platformer much like it's famicom counterpart. Kinda hard to find boxed.

Image

GB Momotaro 1 & 2. Really nice action platformers unlike the crappy board games on other platforms.

Image

Image

Some famicom games been meaning to pick up

Image

The Grandaddy of Saturn joysticks. Now got 2, one boxed.

Image

Image

Finally, so happy together. Castlevania II only available on disk in Japan. Really nice cart repro with

Image

More high quality cart repros of games only available on disk in Japan or not at al.

Image

from the back ...

Image

The game that gave me the most difficulty in finding. A CIB Yanchamaru Part 1 (Kid Niki 1). Picked up
an extra manual, now to find a box...

Have you been using composite leads for those two? If that's the case, get a CRT with component input and component cables for your SD consoles. Some CRT TVs display 480p as well. It's either this or nasty scaling artifacts on LCD. Also, on LCD the lag will be reduced at best, not eliminated. Consider yourself warned.

Your PS2 slim is likely to outlive your PS3 I might add. The single most essential console to own (and I doubt any Sony console will deliver backwards compatibility on a par with PS2 anymore, unless putting PS2 guts in will be an option).

The CRT does have component input, but no progressive scan. I have the PS2 hooked up that way, and it does look phenomenal and noticeably better than s-video. I had the Wii hooked up with component at one point and it also looks amazing, but since the wife also uses it, it was too complicated to add another switch for her to have to faff with, so it's on s-video.

I've used the TV in our office, and Wii 480p looks amazing and I really didn't notice any problems with the scaling or lag. I'll report back once I've tried a few different things on it though. I suspect that because this is an older model that it doesn't have all that crazy processing that modern sets do. It also has a game mode.

Yeah I'm going to hold onto my slim for a bit. It will probably get tucked into a box somewhere with my older consoles that don't live under the TV (Gamecube, SNES, Dreamcast). The PS2 definitely seems like it was built in a different era -- even my old phat one still works perfectly, and I've played the shit out of that thing over the years.

$2.99, gray Zelda cartridge, in a see-through plastic case with some kid's name scratched into it (just the plastic thankfully). Also some free wing of some kind of insect sticking to the bottom of the cartridge case, but otherwise it looks decent enough. I never really cared for the original but some recent post here made me think about it again. I've had a copy of the FDS original for a long while (...but left sealed) and I think this is the first domestic copy I've had, shockingly. I think I'd better open this one and look at the battery though. Last I heard, the more common gold carts were going for more money if they could be found with the gold paint intact. Otherwise, a grey cartridge is low-fuss.

Does your new old PS3 still have an older firmware (3.55 or below)? In that case you should consider looking into Cobra-USB, it's pretty nifty for backwards compatible PS3s. Of course if it's already updated, then it's too late (unless you get a firmware flasher).
