Recommended Anime/Manga?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I'm not a great fan of the early to mid 2000's Ghibli movies, but i just watched The Secret World of Arrietty and From Up on Poppy Hill, and i really liked them. The latter's scenes of the kids cleaning the club house were pretty funny.
That being said, Castle of Cagliostro and Porco Rosso are still my favourite Ghibli movies.

Read or Die The TV, Sekirei and Ikkitousen are pretty bad. Unlike the muppet harem thing I gave up on, they at least imbue the viewer with a thing called hope, and you've gotta have hope. Whether its the hope you'll finally get to see a cartoon nipple for the first time in your life, or an action sequence that doesn't suck, its at least there. Read or Die is especially remarkable; one of its paper spy wizard girls is the wussiest person. Begging and crying for the Bad Man to not be so bad while she has him at knifepoint? Multiple times? I mean holy christ, Princess Toadstool shows more balls while being kidnapped. Srsly.
Anyway, I've kind of gotten absorbed into this web manhwa called DICE: The cube that changes everything. Our heroes get quests on their cell phones, requiring them to do stuff in the real world. Complete a quest, get some dice. Get some dice, roll them and add the result to your stats. Irl stats, of course. Is the person running the game Satan? Who knows. The entire thing gives me kind of a Gantz vibe, minus the violence, gorn, aliens or nudity. Or the "Tae-chan!".
Maybe its gotten to the point where I'm in love with anything that's a 3/5...

Recently I've been reading Molester Man. 20-yr old friendless otaku is mistaken for a molester/stalker, but that issue is quickly resolved and the guy befriends the girl and her group of friends. Cue him awkwardly trying to socialize with them and asking 2ch for advice whenever he can ("just call her, faggot!").
This one was based on a real story so it's pretty down to earth, while also being funny at the same time. I'm enjoying it very much.
Oh, and guess who makes a guest appearance in this manga: Kogan the Sushi Chef!

I couldn't bear to watch that one, but the movie was fun (at least to my 18-yr old self). If you can stand Yomiko behaving like a child, that is.BryanM wrote:Read or Die The TV

I'm curious, has anyone attempt to read/watch stuff on a tablet? I was able to purchase a new Samsung tablet and I'm moving my comic reading on this device. So far I got JoJo and 2001 Nights on this thing.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I've been using the girlfriends iPad 3 for a while now for my manga needs and it does a great job. Took some time in finding an app I was entirely happy with and that suited my needs (i.e not payin for this shit), but its pretty much the only way I read manga nowadays (blaspheme I know).Domino wrote:I'm curious, has anyone attempt to read/watch stuff on a tablet? Only downside is I have to use some software to convert the files to cbz format which can take forever depending of the length of the manga.

have to be honest, almost all I read is on my iPad 1Domino wrote:I'm curious, has anyone attempt to read/watch stuff on a tablet? I was able to purchase a new Samsung tablet and I'm moving my comic reading on this device. So far I got JoJo and 2001 Nights on this thing.

So far I'm having a blast reading manga on this thing. I'm doing a short read on Saber Tiger, which is from Yokinobu Hoshino (2001 Nights).

Currently watching Speed Grapher. Interesting premise to be sure, and so far I'm enjoying it. I feel like I can't have a truly objective opinion of it right now, since I'm still sorta in the middle of things and the show is so different than what I'm used to. It apparently got highly mixed critical responses-- I can see why given the pacing and plot (not even going into the fetishistic themes it touches on). Only about ten episodes in because school has been sucking up all of my time lately.
When I finish this I'm thinking about starting Attack on Titan or Bubblegum Crisis; any thoughts on either?

Bubblegum Crisis is great but if you're not in a certain age group it might not appeal to you. I've never liked the soundtracks, but always liked the rather optimistic look at dystopia.

Buff mecha, curvy fanservice, and awesome color tones in animation.GaijinPunch wrote:Bubblegum Crisis is great but if you're not in a certain age group it might not appeal to you. I've never liked the soundtracks, but always liked the rather optimistic look at dystopia.
Pretty much Masami Obari in a nutshell.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Yup, I use a Samsung Galaxy for my fansub manga. Only reason I wanted one, really.

The one w/ some type of working memory of the mid-80s. It might hold up for youngsters but it seems that Steampunk and moetard have rendered Cyber Punk void.drauch wrote:Just curious, but what age group is it that you consider?GaijinPunch wrote:Bubblegum Crisis is great but if you're not in a certain age group it might not appeal to you. So basically, either end of the spectrum because it sells?GaijinPunch wrote:Steampunk and moetard have rendered Cyber Punk void.

Exactly. It sells now though, is more what I mean. Cyberpunk had a nice run, but this is back when the heroes were actually masculine and didn't wax their arms. I'm sure back then someone was complaining about the gloss though, and how much better it was when the heroes wore bell bottoms and created a gigantic robot with 4 other comrades.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
But masculine protagonists make me feel inferior. Liek how sexy actresses make women feel inferior, and why Jennifer Anison, a solid 3/5 or a low 4/5 at best, is held up as "sexiest woman of the year".
I mean, lookit this useless little twerp. No way I'm as pathetic as him; obviously all the imaginary cartoon vampire women will be mine.
... okay, someone nominate something for my queue stack that has zero-harem, isn't 100% endless neverending combat, and has a masculine lead with shadowy bits on his arms that denote some sort of muscular development.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

BGC's soundtrack is a great fit within the confines of the show, but not necessarily something I'd personally listen to outside of it.
And Mad Machine has Konya wa Hurricane beat sorry

How about Basilisk or Souten Kouro? Neither is 100% combat only.BryanM wrote:... okay, someone nominate something for my queue stack that has zero-harem, isn't 100% endless neverending combat, and has a masculine lead with shadowy bits on his arms that denote some sort of muscular development.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
BBC is the ultimate anime OVA for me. I love cyber punk, 80s pop music, anime babes, and manly men; which, I guess excluding the cyber punk setting, is a lot of the creative output during the 80s. Still, BBC is unique because it does it all so well.

Speaking of overbuilt muscle characters, how in the hell do those punks in Hokuto no Ken maintain such muscle mass in an apocalypse setting?

Watching Another right now. It's not as emo as I thought it would be.
Also watching Aoi Bungaku, but I'm thinking about dropping it (not liking it so far -ep 4-)
