Hey Spadgy! Thanks for the invitation! I'll be there!
Ive just had two weeks holiday but also come down with a bout of Pleurisy so I've forgotten all about gaming / arranging Southend. Do people have a preference on a date? Im thinking a nice rainy saturday so we can avoid all the tourists.
Also the town has the worlds longest pier with a smashing little train on it. The pier doesnt have a single arcade on it, but riding the train could be fun right!? :D

I'm still rubbish with real world vs. forum names mate, and I've known most people for years!

Anyway - thanks for all coming, and a great day, even if the hosting was scatty and the game selection rather odd! Loads of fun.

Adter you guys left and it was just myself and blunge, we got into Raiden IV Overkill. I actually tried double play and did OK for my first double playing in years; stage 3 on my first credit. That's me completely lost to doubleplay now.

See you all at the next one guys!

Thanks for bringing it! As I missed Rupert H's Euroshmup meet, I'd not seen it for a good while. How far it's come on, and how great the second half looks, is really amazing. I'll email you some proper feedback at some point.

Fighting games? Cybattler's the current tournament game, and there's a melee attack. Is that what a fighting game is?

And Illyrian; shame you couldn't make it, but there's always next time!

Also, blinge; I told you lie about Raiden IV doubleplay... the 1P/2P ship X/Y axis differences do still apply in double play. So as you move the ships, for example, left together, 2P seems to move a little faster, and the gap widens (or closes).

Sorry I couldn't make it. Sundays suck for me at the moment. In just over a month I'll be on a six week holiday though, so really hoping for a chance to play the new shooter and hang out with you fine fellows and watch Italian horror or whatever :D

I'm afraid we'll all of tired of the genre by then.

In fact, that would be great. I'm always up for meets at mine.

On that note, I should make my confession that I'm soon to move out of London, but I ain't going far, and I'll be in London at least a couple of days a week for work.

Me and my better half are suddenly moving to Hastings; almost half the rent for twice as much space (room for a cab of my own, finally!), by the seaside, and the place we're likely renting is five mins walk from three or four arcades (mainly light gun games, driving games, Street Fighter pinball, that kind of stuff; you know what seafront arcades are like. Penny waterfall territory). And I'll have a garden. Front and back motherfuckers!

That will be about August, but if you're willing to make the journey I'm up for a seaside meet! Also still up for Southend.

And Las Vegas Arcade soho, as well as a Jamma cab for shmups, is getting a cab with a 360 in, and happy to run shmups in there. As I'll be in and out of London for work all the time, I'd love to make regular meets there if we can.

Wow I definitely didn't see that happening! With me in Southend, you in Hastings, CHI in Monaco, Skykid in China, HZT in Tokyo the Casino Crew has really been dispersed... Anybody else planning on fleeing the capital any time soon?

Great meet Will. And I'd definitely be up for a seaside meet when you get on your feet down there.

MX7: I'm never leaving the capital. I just started a new career that will see me serving it for the next twenty-six years. :D

Incoming nitpick!

Whenever you refer to an actual fighting game as a "beat 'em up" I get the twitchy eye..
Beat 'em ups are PvE stuff like Final Fight and Double Dragon

Wow, that's pretty good news. I wonder what the set up will be - will it have a stick wired up? You mentioned a couple of staff are there all the time so maybe we can bring games / sticks down and sort it out ourselves.

Also, welcome back Aliquantic.

Don't you mean 'belt scroll action games'? ;)

(I always thought beat 'em up was something invented by UK game magazines in the 90's? I definitely remember seeing magazines like Games Master and Mean Machines using this term to refer to games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Before they were known as 'FPS' games, first person shooters were called 'Doom clones', and I still have trouble not calling them this today)

Of course all our hearts remain in a run down arcade in central... that doesn't even have any games in it any more

Kind of poetic, I was moved. :(

In actuality I left my gaming heart in the Yorkshire seaside, and the slightly older portion in Namco Wonderpark.

If you guys want to play in arcades again, pay me a visit any time.

Job secured, I'll hit London again early August. If someone is renting a room or knows someone who is, feel free to PM me before I go to the sordid hole that's AirBnB, either for a temporary place for a month or two, or longer term.

Go learn to play some Street Fighter, Illyrian :P

As my job is basically 'rewriting Wikipedia pages', I'm a huge fan of the fact that Wikipedia apparently boasts a higher accuracy rate than Britannia and all the establish encyclopaedias, thanks to Wiki's ability to move so fast with change.

Obviously, in reality I never use Wikipedia for work. Never.

Anyway, good to see you here Aliquantic! It's been a while. I wish I could offer you our place for rent (as our landlord is brilliant), but as soon as we depart, she's selling the place.

Moving on to 'beat 'em ups', I never really knew that was a strongly distinct term from fighter. I presume the umbrella term for the two is 'fist 'n' punch' games? That's what I'll use from now, just to be safe.
