The comment section is of course abhorrent and it seems almost nobody there even read the article. Sad!

Well, this election made me decide one thing: I'm going to college in Vermont. How can I take a year's worth of a language before next school year, so I can have two years by the time I graduate? No one responded on Yahoo Answers.

Ballsy. Vermont'll be one of the first states nuked into ash by the neocons.

The results of today's coup d'etat attempt:

3 Colin Powell
1 Faith Spotted Eagle
1 Bernie Sanders
1 Ron Paul
1 John Kasich

So that was minus 5 Clinton votes and minus 2 Trump votes. A few additional attempts were made but invalidated according to state laws.

* Faith is the first native american to ever receive an electoral vote. She would be a million times better president than either of the choices we had after the primary.

* The democrats in Washington who got together and voted for Powell are goofy weirdos. This is the person they chose for their symbolic gesture?

* This is the largest number of faithless electors in a century.

Been trying to come up with a snappy label for the deranged Putin conspiracy theory people, one that's as catchy as "birther" was. The best I've got so far is "red xenos". I'm really not good at this kind of thing.

As a reminder, the DNC leaks were done by a disgruntled democrat.

The other night I saw a Jimmy Dore clip where he accused Thom Hartmann of bashing Bernie Sanders.

Holy shit, Jimmy, aren't you the guy who makes fun of the corporate press for not doing a simple google search before making big pronouncements?

Then again Thom did bash Jill Stein (for not being nearly as qualified as Bernie) so I guess that's the same thing in Jimmy's world.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Poor Jimmy's brain has rotted away through the mountains of shill shit he's been subjected to. Our overlords have seriously fucked us up - note how evil something like David Brock's disinformation squads are. It's impossible to know if you're talking to a human being or an uninterested employee. Conversations on these things are coarse enough already, without these goons pouring kerosene on it.*

I do disagree with Thom on whom the lesser evil was (I think the greater evil is your "friend" who opens the door for Hitler Stalin Satan to walk right in and eat everybody. Why project a moral dimension at a bear or the devil for being a devil bear - that's just its nature.) - but that's just subjective opinion. Much more concerning:

One of his videos was titled "No amount of radiation is safe". I... really don't think he knows what radiation is. Every atom in the universe aside from Hydrogen is radioactive. And we're not entirely sure about the Hydrogen yet, either.

* If you thought 2015-2016 was a shitshow, just wait until 2019-2020. These people aren't going away. The well will be poisoned. Barron Trump 2040 might be inevitable. : (

America in 2016. This is how it ends. The god emporer and his buddies get to do whatever they want, and it's all "legal". And seeing as how todays government declares what's "legal" in classified, unchallengeable memos, we have no way to fight any of this. We're seriously fucked, unless a lot of people in congress grow the balls to put a stop to this, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. The Bush and Obama administrations have gotten away with a ton of illegal bullshit, and nobodies put a stop to it yet. This is where executive overreach will hit critical mass.

While you're going on about how Vermont is gonna be destroyed or whatever, can you guys at least tell me how to get a year of a language class counted as something I took before next year? I need at least two years of a foreign language to be able to even apply to most colleges, you know.

I thought that learning another language alongside Japanese would be too much, and I didn't care about college until a couple months ago. And you can learn a year's worth of material over the summer!? How's that possible? :|
Well, my Japanese teacher did say that I "have a talent" for learning languages.

Foreign Language classes in high school are a joke. In University, a smaller joke, but a joke nonetheless.
1 year of high school foreign language is about 6-8 weeks of university 101. A year of university 101 level foreign language is equivalent to about 3 intensive weeks of living and studying in another country... especially for a romantic language. Asian ones a bit different due to the writing, but still not that far off.
Well, my Japanese teacher did say that I "have a talent" for learning languages.
Could be. Japanese have a notoriously low bar for absolutely shitting themselves when someone says a single word in Japanese though. #Truth

Become a plumber or an electrician and forget this nonsense. Make money now, be frugal, invest, retire early. You can learn all of the languages you want at that point. 8)

How likely would it be to get accepted into the University of Vermont with a 3.67 unweighted (4.02 weighted) GPA and ~1210 SAT score?

What Gaijin Punch says is complete truth. HS Japanese classes consisted of basically hiragana and katakana proficiency and a few sentences here and there, of formal sentence robot like formality, which no one speaks colloquially speaking. Thought a year abroad in Japan for my senior year of HS, would be a success however, in regards to Japanese language proficiency. This didn't go as planned, as I attended a public HS whose students were too busy studying for college entry exams, to associate with the token gaijin exchange student...
The few yanki(s) that and others I did associate with, just wanted to speak in English when I was there, so that whole endeavor didn't go as planned in strengthening said Japanese language skills.
Come back to the US.... College, Junior 1st semester Japanese 301, I still didn't get anything from it in the end tbh.
First wife I married=Japanese (she's now dead btw, RIP), wanted only to speak English too. Moral of story: Good luck and learn from my failures of life.

Merry christmas, doomsday thread.

The arctic's been above melting point a couple times this winter. Still probably a couple decades out from a summer with an iceless arctic. Woulda been nice to get that pro-global warming money out of politics 16 years ago so something could have been done to avoid all this. It's been Too Late for quite awhile now.

The inevitable recession lurks near as well. I want to revise my earlier opinion that it's not gonna be as bad as the last one. Those guys are highly skilled at fucking other people over and it was wrong and stupid of me to underestimate them so.

On the upside....... the desire sensor actually gave me something great for christmas: a $25 imaginary card in an imaginary cardgame in exchange for a $0 "play some free games" token.

Image

For those of you who don't read nerd, the textbox says "This card costs $25."

After it goes out of print years from now, it'll be a $100+ card, easily. When I catch the cancer by then, it'll be a struggle deciding between selling the card or dying of the cancer. This is an excellent investment plan for my future healthcare requirements. Thanks Obama.

Putin's recent visit to Japan? Checking in on yours truly. This three story troll brigade house with gigabit fiber I live in doesn't pay for itself.

Once I showed him how effective I was in this thread, though, the mood was purely celebratory; the man can do a wicked keg stand. And of course, we jammed to only the most fitting of tunes.

I'm back to being pissed at Bernie-or-Busters.

Yes, right after Trump's electoral victory I was seething with anger at the DNC for boxing out the superior candidate and the Clinton campaign for running with the stupidest strategy imaginable: get Republicans to vote Hillary.

But after one single week of the Republican house's antics I'm back to being enraged at the idiots who said, "a vote for the lesser evil is still evil!"

That attempt to gut the ethics office was just the tip of the iceberg. Not only are they repealing the ACA with no plan to replace it (hello again, pre-existing conditions), they also passed legislation to not publicly reveal how much the ACA repeal will explode the national debt. And they created sanctions for people streaming the discussions on the House floor to the public on smartphones when Paul Ryan wants the CSPAN cameras off. Then they're also doing a massive sell-off of public land, restriction of state's rights (fuck your pot decriminalization), and defunding planned parenthood, despite the fact that abortion services get zero federal funding already.

AND THIS ISN'T EVEN TRUMP YET! It's just the goddamn Republicans. And it's not like we couldn't see this coming. This is how terrible they were in the Bush jr. years when they had a majority. And you called Bernie a sell-out, you IDIOTS!

Why are Republicans so evil? Probably because their philosophical guiding light comes from Ayn Rand, whose ideal man was a corpse-mutilating sociopath

That and the simple fact that Crooked Hillary is an amateur compared to Republican corruption.

We are so fucked.
