Today on 8/19/2025, there was an 37.7mb d/l update to the Steam port of Gradius Origins -- what does this newest update entail?

Seems like there are no patch notes so nobody knows I assume?
Have you seen what they said on Steam on the thread where I asked something (regarding performance) a while ago? Really triggers me. We seem to live in times where people don't even understand that old games have slowdown, but that these games were also balanced with the slowdown in mind. They keep saying "jerky scrolling" and all that shit. This is just too much for me.
Then I got bad news for you because I've also experienced some "jerky scrolling" on PC, and I am definitely sure that it has nothing to do with slowdown. I don't know why it happens, I was wondering if it was because the original frame rate was not quite 60fps - they wary by the game, but most the arcade boards are very very close -and Gradius 3 and Salamander 3 should be 60fps to start with.. perhaps the patch will fix this?
Would you be able to post a video? For me, Gradius II for instance looks like this: https://youtu.be/l2drZ_8FjjM Firehawke looked at it for me and he said he has played the PCB, and he said the game runs the same way from the PCB. Personally I have never played the PCB, I have only played the game on Mame and the console ports.
I just looked at my replay again (in the game) since there was an update and there was no obvious difference I could spot so far.

i really dont have time.. sorry. But this video you posted jitters in familiar way. If I had to shoot a guess, its M2 running arcade game with 60.60fps frame rate on 60fps monitor. But I don’t really know.

Strange. The game also runs similar in Mame, judging from my perception. My monitor is 165Hz btw.

It looks exactly as I thought.. the recording from the original PCB is smooth, but two other videos are jittery, just like mine.
In Mame it has (to me) some very slight screen tearing as a result of this, and it can be turned off with triple buffering or wait for vertical sync. Basically to me it seems like a classic issue of an odd frame rate (60.606061 Hz)

funnily one of the two videos i posted, where the problem occurs, is by konami themselves lol as you can see if you look at which channel uploaded it. those superplays were uploaded by konami to promote the release prior to it, so apparently this is how konami intended the game to run. as i said, id love to see a video where this problem does actually not occur, i still havent seen one.
steven can u post a short video of how gradius ii runs for u on the ps5?
Thank you for posting a video of both of these versions!
I'd like to let other people judge, but it almost seems to me that it runs better on PS5? I had a gut feeling this would be the case, some Japanese developers are still better with their console versions than with their PC versions.
Capcom have been making high quality PC versions of their games, at least since RE2 Remake. Their games were always better on PC than on the PS4.
They seem to be slightly smoother than the PC version, though still not 100% smooth. But really people should just relax, this is not massive amount of jittery. I've seen exactly same kind of uneven screen update with any ACA game that has uneven framerate, compared to PCB - like Viper Phase 1 as example, the PCB is smoother, and it has uneven framerate. It is what it is - this does not make the emulations unplayable.

Yeah, unfortunately countless games run at something under 60Hz (or slightly above), like ~57Hz or ~59Hz, etc.

Maybe the PC version is some sort of M2 tribute to the MSX version?
It would be great if that misinfo got out there.
is it out yet? Can't see many screenshots in this thread... hopefully this will bring the old PS1 pack down a bit, then I can finally pounce Wanted to try part II for many years, looks very tasty in various articles.
Do you mean locally? None of the games do it, unfortunately. It's a weird omission/oversight given the treatment the rest of the package has received, and seems like something that would be relatively trivial to implement...

Gradius Origins came out on August 7, about 2 and half weeks ago.
I have the Japan Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus for Sega Saturn which contains Salamander, Japan Life Force and Salamander 2

All of those Deluxe Pack releases have always been fairly cheap, and going by eBay seems they still are
The JP PS1 pack is averaging about £75, so almost Switch 2 RRP territory! I remember seeing many posts on here over the years stating that most of the Konami shooters are slightly superior on PlayStation over Saturn, same with the Dodonpachis, Strikers 1945 II and In The Hunt. Gradius Gaiden of course was exclusive to the system for many years (not sure if still is).

Thank you for this answer. I just assumed I was too dumb to figure it out. Thank you!
Mark does not mention any performance issues of the PC version, which means there are none.
We were wrong all along.
There's a particular irony in him going off on M2 as "having blind spots in their own games" because they used "cryptic glyphs" instead of the letter power ups from Salamander II in Salamander III...while somehow not realizing those are just the power up symbols from the original Salamander.
Which leads into the other thing, he started going on about how "it's too bad" and they should have sold Gradius I separately for first timers but "unfortunately" they didn't because they're not as savvy at marketing as he is. How does he not realize these games already exist a la carte through Arcade Archives? I know all the different changes to the power up systems across Salamander/Life Force/Life Force JP from jumping between the three in the AA Salamander release that's been out on PS4 for nine years now.

Seems to be a feature of all of M2's recent efforts. I don't recall any of the Shot Triggers games retaining local scores. Perhaps I should make a better research and put on the PS5, and check Darius Cozmic/Ray'Z and the Shot Triggers/Toaplan Arcade Garage games.
