btw the fixes made to Fire Barrel in 0.140u3 obsolete the hacks used to 'fix' it in Shmupmame and also add all the missing scrolling effects etc. to the game.
If you like Fire Barrel you might want to give it a try in the official 0.140u3 now.

Really though I do hope resyncing ShmupMAME to the latest release isnt going to give us even MORE problems with this C++ bloat.

line from Shmupmame's src/mame/video/pgm.c to the mame0.140u3 version. That's the only change needed to disable the spritebuffer.
It goes immediately after the "const UINT16 *finish = state->spritebufferram + (0xa00 / 2);" line.

That did the trick. Would still be nice to have Shmupmame's interface (and the ability to organize it with my other games), though.

I wonder what causes laggless99 to not work (ie that app wont start 0x0000005 thing). In the past rebooting win7 fixed it but now it point blank refuses to work, shame

Man , I couldn"t even dream of playing ddpdoj and ketsui in my 6 year old computer till yesterday , and only knew about these games from youtube videos , but at the moment enjoying these gems for hours (this is not a dream , right ??

One little question , is hiscore.dat compatible for these 3 games (counting espgaluda , althought it lags more than other 2) , and if yes , how should I setup it ?

There won't likely be hiscore.dat support until after the game officially appears in MAME unless one of the devs posting here knocks up a quick entry. It's probably a 5 minute job for someone with the right debug tools.

It is indeed out, has been for a few days, but note that the namings for Ketsui and DOJ within the ROMs have been changed. Where can I get a list of rom naming changes , I mean how should I rename them for the new version ?
More info greatly appreciated , cannot wait to able to play with hi-score support (dont mean I necessarily get good scores , but it is a big motivation and fun factor for me when playing stgs

Personally I just redownloaded the ROMs at websites that I know have them. MAME tends to be a bitch these days when it comes to finding specific name parts for the ROM pieces. -based on mame32 Plus 99 (savestates, custom buttons, autofire, better performance)
-backport of cave pgm games to mame99 (including savestates)
-backport of seibuSPI fixes to mame99
-backport of a few minor shmup related fixes.
-many new lagless drivers (20 new patched drivers!)
and a few surprises...

That fits my performance-friendly needs precisely. GREAT STUFF!
Once the release comes out can we request shmups to backport if they aren't already?

Actually, the video options included in Mame Plus 99 are far superior to the ones we have now in current mame versions.
-integer scaling (aka clean stretch)
-integrated effects and filtering options both for d3d and ddraw
-HQ2X type filters (for those who like it that way)
-Much better scanlines options (in d3d mode)
-Not as resource intensive
Newer is not always better.
