I think I'm right that this is what MrPopo means:
Let's say the shooter you're making is in 3D, and an enemy is a rotating cube spinning on one or two axis. Create the cube's six sides (or one side six times) and then you can use your development tech to make it spin.
Try to create the same enemy and movement in traditional hand drawn sprites, and more or less you'll have to draw each frame of the animation individually.

Well, to be in the top ten with 16k units doesn't speak for a strong sales week overall.
From what I know, that's just the way it is with sales charts on an international scale these days. The rise of DLC and browser gaming and all that. Good bye high street.
Last time I checked 2D shmups don't have dozens of moves per character that need to be animated. The comparison between SNK fighters and Cave games is obsolete. Anyway, I'm derailing this topic too much already, I can see this is going nowhere.
"I've had quite a few pcbs of Fire Shark over time, and none of them cost me over £30 - so it won't break the bank by any standards." ~Malc
I'm not sure about this but I thought a lot of Cave's 2D sprites were made from 3D models first. I can see how this would take more time, creating individual animation "frames" for each sprite rather than just using the original 3D model. Plus with this kind of animation there would probably be some touching up of sprites etc. 3D allows for smoother animation I suppose - but at what cost!
edit; yeah, thread derailing - just had to add this.

This game has me all confuzzled. I literally cannot play any other mode than score attack simply because every other mode is retarded looking. Can't change the screen size and the new characters suck ass in other modes. I do like Follett and Supe in score attack and those are my 2 go to characters. Hell even Rosa sucks ass compared to them.
Other than that I can't complain. Its the first shmup I have played in quite sometime and although I am displeased by the other aspects of the game, the sprites and score attack make up for it.

Stolen from cave-stg:
To reach Pigeon Blood Jittery bug in X-Mode or Arrange:
-Beat every stage boss by using the LOCK-SHOT (this needs to be the final attack on the boss)
-Go to the EX stage
-Can't continue
-Must pick up the Large Cake after beating Satan Claws (it pops out when you beat him with the lock-shot)
-The rank level doesn't matter.

Jesus fucking christ, this scoring system in IIX mode is annoying. There has to be something I'm missing, because in all the top replay videos from the leaderboards, people somehow max out their multipliers right as they go into power mode, and I can barely ever even get CLOSE to that. I know the main key to it is getting a lot of bullets/suicide bullets on screen at once, but I've gotten almost the entire screen full of bullets when I go into power up mode and it still takes about half of my power up time to get the counter maxed out. How the hell are these guys getting it to max out multipliers right away? The final thing I need to do in the game is get 6 billion points and I got 5,944,444,444,444 at endgame. I threw my controller across the room. I'm done with this game until someone can shed some more light on how to enter power up mode with multipliers already maxed out.

Don't worry about this achievement until after the update. It's currently glitchy and unlocks randomly. You could brake 6 billion during a run and it most likely won't unlock.
There's been reports on 2ch of this issue. A friend of mine also unlocked the 4 mill achievement, but not the 6 mill achievement, after ending with a score over 7.5 mill.

I did read about this on a Japanese guide, so I was thinking the same thing.
I just screwed up a run, and wanted to back out to the main menu to start it over. I'm using an arcade stick, so I changed the default controls.
So I pressed Back (since Start does nothing), and... I can't do anything except press Back again to unpause. None of the buttons trigger any of the options in the pause menu. What the hell?
chempop wrote:I have a feeling that the main team at Cave asked themselves, "what could we do to improve our games?" they probably noticed that their style usually is lacking the visual depth that many other great shmups have and incorporate with the gameplay.
I have a feeling they asked themselves "how can we do a console-viable sequel as quickly as possible?" As evidenced by pretty much everything about the game, which feels like an experiment done by a secondary-team, but particularly the 3D. Because, regardless to which is easier to work with (3D), only one can be scaled from 320x240 to 720p using the same assets with good results.
(I'm fairly certain the arcade release was low res anyway. Even if it wasn't, 2D at that size is simply a ballache. This is why they didn't redraw the backgrounds in the Mushi/Deathsmiles ports)

You have to push start to trigger the options on the pause menu. Unless your start button is broke...
Twice I've 1CC'd arcade mode, and twice now the screen has gone black after the credits - no score card, doesn't save the score etc, can't get back to the main menu. Is this happening to anyone else..? or are people generally playing X-mode.
EDIT: Deleted and re-installed on hard drive - seems ok now.

Just a trap whom doesn't want to be found out? At least the uncle seems to know Lei is a dude, just everyone else is oblivious. Check out Follet's 1st ending if you want to see something hilarious involving Lei.
As for arcade, I haven't bothered since there is no online ranking or replay function for it. Maybe give it a go later.

It wouldn't surprise me that Arcade mode has the most bugs considering the overall lack of attention/care it got in the port. Didn't mess around with the mode myself, but I've yet to run into any bugs/glitches with X-Mode (aside from the random huge clear bonus on my very first playthrough of the game).

Also wow at Casper's first ending. I didn't think they'd go that far. When I heard her talking about dressing sexy to their father, I just thought "oh dear, what now?"

I'll admit I haven't had much luck with Arcade mode either. I can nearly clear IIX mode playing all level 3's now, but I usually die out by stage 4-ish in Arcade. Spoiled by widescreen is what I've been blaming it on.
