Can *you* touch virtual b00bs with the touch screen on that seizure-inducing stick though?
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...

I have no idea. I think it's in the waist of the girl. Anyway, I haven't even had this game a day and I'm getting tired of it. Let me explain why:

- You don't gain any achievements, or ANYTHING for 1ccing the original game
- No online co-op for the original game
- You don't gain any achievements for playing online co-op of Gorgeous mode.. so what the fuck is the point in playing online co-op?
- As mentioned before, failure to join an online game will not only kick you out of the game, but shove you back to the title screen, forcing you to go through the options, character select, and all menus again
- Unnecessary slowdown in Gorgeous mode, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it makes the ice level a real bore
- The final boss has an attack that WILL kill you, and you can't avoid it
- You can continue as many times as you want in Gorgeous mode, but not on the second loop. WHY.
- No practice mode. WHY.
- Weird hitbox, definitely
- Stage 6 is like some bad doujin game
- The touchscreen capabilities in this game are basically a gigantic waste of time

On the plus side, I like the stages minus 6. The music is appropriate. There's little to no lag online, which is great. There's a good variety of characters and the levelling system is a nice touch. There's a huge amount of references to previous games as well. Earlier I found myself just plowing through aimlessly to get achievements though, so I guess I've stopped caring. I mean, you can just keep continuing to grind for more gt, to unlock stuff. It's pretty broken.

Sounds pretty dissapointing, glad I didn't get it after all :/

It looked like it had some serious issues even in its arcade version, to tell the truth. The game feels, in one word, "bland" and I guess this mini-review of the X360 port pretty much does it.
I wanted to buy it just for the sake of it, but then again I think it's not worth the pain.
Parodius(es?)(ii?) need to be a gigantic blast of nonsense, colours, mockup soudtracks and weird bullet patterns. This, yeah, looks too much like a heartless doujin... with... a definitely weird hitbox. And underage titties. Hell, when Ibara is around, I mean... :shock: :D

I dunno, I haven't played any of the TF games and have no intention of doing so. They don't interest me.

Word. The other major thing lacking from this game, but present in all Parodius titles, is background animation. There's literally none in Otomedius. All those penguins in the background getting up to mischief? They're statues. There's not a single touch of animation in any of the backgrounds.

Again, check out the first half of level three. It's laughable.

I'm not completely hating on it any more, because it occasionally manages to do something cute - the Egyptian level is probably the best in terms of detail and nice touches, with its Salamander pyramids and scarab beetle boss. But I can't understand why Konami didn't develp a new Parodius instead of this. The only reason I can come up with is that they were aware that they no longer had the talent to develop a game that lived up to that series' name.

That, and they probably knew that there was more money in lolitits than in an octopus with a pair of pants on his head.

> You don't gain any achievements, or ANYTHING for 1ccing the original game

This is one of my major complaints with the game, almost no real rewarding of effort. There don't seem to be any multipliers so basically you're encouraged to bomb a lot and try to kill as many enemies as possible and get to the end of the stage unscathed. But even if you do the best you'll do is get a good grade: S or A, and this will do nothing but get you higher in level, which does not get you better weapons.

Not to mention that if you want the last achievement you're going to have to play something around 150 games with the same character which gets...tedious.

> You don't gain any achievements for playing online co-op of Gorgeous mode.. so what the fuck is the point in playing online co-op?

Fun?

> The final boss has an attack that WILL kill you, and you can't avoid it

Wrong.

> You can continue as many times as you want in Gorgeous mode, but not on the second loop. WHY.

Don't die. Or practice on Hard/Expert in original.

> No practice mode. WHY.

What is there to practice? lol[/quote]

Tokyo second loop, have fun with that.

I know co-op is meant to be "fun" but I haven't touched N+ since doing the co-op achievements in it.. at least with competitive gaming you have a win/loss/draw kill/death ratio to keep track of and improve on. With co-op, it just seems pointless. It isn't really that fun to have so much on screen that you'll randomly die from something you can't see. Sorry.

But yeah it's lame how Original mode gets no love. They should've split the achievements in half do each character's clear is worth 50 points on both Original and Gorgeous.

Does anyone know how to unlock the gallery?

Otomedius sold already 14,045 copies on it's first 3 days:

http://www.vgchartz.com/japweekly.php

I don't know how strong Senko no Ronde sold but that's already more than Raiden IV, Shikigami 3 and RFA sold combined!

I am very pleased with this game.

I really like gorgeous mode.
I had the same issue with arcade mode where I will have to adjust the screen as in default I cannot see the power up bar at the bottom.

I admit that the hitbox questions are of issue as I cannot pinpoint the exact point of hitbox :?
However I am otherwise enjoy this game and find it worth every thing I pay.

At a time where I have to make my purchase count, I feel I hit 2 for 2 at 1.000 on my shooter purchases this fall!
I am posting late as all I have done today is play Otomedius and watch the Pistons game. Otomedius is great fun!

In other words,
Otomedius Gorgeous > Thunder Force VI

for fellows who are on the fence for this game, please do not take my words into consideration. I am a simpleton and my taste in games is of a different kind… I am please for this game while everyone else is have negative sayings. Also, if this is going to be your first japanese game, be warned that everything in the menus is in japanese. If you are not familiar with japanese game set ups or do not have understandings of the japanese language, it will be difficult to navigate through the game menus.

IIRC, SNR's initial print-run was 10K (split between the regular and LE). So I'd say that Otomedius out-sold it. I don't know what the current total for SNR is though since it got a Platinum release. Hell, looks like Last Remnant and Otomedius may get Platinum releases as well.

This is going to sound like a really daft question, but has anyone tried this game on a European or US 360? I know it's almost certain to be region locked, but it would be nice to have confirmation.

Nevermind, I thought that the illustration cards (required for the achievement) were part of the gallery, but it turns out they're on your character's profile.

I know you unlock cards for levelling your characters in Original mode, but what do you get for levelling characters in Gorgeous mode?

Could someone please give a brief description of the menuing system ? it's all chinese to me, I'm totally lost. How do I select gorgeous mode ?
Also I don't know how I did it but while trying to find my way through that menu maze I ended up playing with 3 characters on screen (myself and the two others controlled by A.I.)

It's like

Original mode
Gorgeous mode
Shop
Gallery

Original mode
> Game start
> Option
> Ranking
> Replay
> Return

Gorgeous mode
> Multiplay live mode
>> Loading data
>> Character select
>>> Quick match
>>> Custom match
>>> Create custom match
>>> Create private match
>>> Return
> Multiplay LAN mode
> Option
> Ranking
> Replay
> Return

I don't think you get any points for clearing a co-op game though, which is dumb.

Everytime you play Gorgeous Mode, you earn gt (the amount you earn is based on your rank per stage) for the character you were playing with. Once you've completed a run, go into the Shop and select the character you were playing with. You can now spend your gt to purchase the various weapon cards.

I have no idea what you mean. Gorgeous mode is below Original mode like I listed.

So.. it's basically like levelling in Original, except you're given gold to spend on stuff in the shop instead of automatically gaining stuff from levelling up.

Yeah. And the cards are consistent across the two versions of the game: any unlocked in Original are available for use in Gorgeous and vice versa.
