Mariko Goto - m@u

Listened to this 8 or 9 times now and I think I like it more than her previous album, 299792458. It took a little while for some of the songs to grow on me, but I like pretty much every track on the album. "The Flaming Lips" is particularly awesome - I'd say it's one of her top five songs between her solo career and Midori.

Yagya - The Inescapable Decay of My Heart
This album is quite a different sort. It is Dub Techno, but it also is electronic with vocals. A couple of nice ladies sing on various tracks and Yaga himself takes a shot at singing on a few tracks as well. This wasn't very well received by the Dub Techno community, but most bought it for the second disc which was the same album with all vocals removed.

Picked up the new Bardo Pond 'Peace on Venus'. Really haven't been buying albums for the last couple years, but I have some loyalty for Bardo. Not every album by them is 5 stars, but most do the job.

A little late, but I picked up the new Motorhead album.

Jesus wept - head feels like my brain has been pulverised by a JD bottle wrapped in a sock. It's their best album in years.

Coppice Halifax - Static Physics
I love me some long format techno epics and this really fits the bill. It is pretty much sweeping pads and some background noise for a good portion of this, mixed into a drone format and then given a kick in the pants with techno rhythms underneath it. Long format Ambient Techno/Drone Techno and this is just awesome. Takes a while to listen to, but is very much worth it.

This past semester I was mainly devoted to internalizing the massive collection

An Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music, vols 1-7

It was a massive undertaking putting this collection together, and it has some excellent moments. I've put a few highlights in a mix I made for Halloween, which is still on my website.

Sylvester Anfang II...very obvious krautrock inspired band, but who the hell is complaining:

Edit: UGH, guys the cover for that album is NSFW, didn't even think about it coz a lot of music has NSFW album covers.

Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes: Paix

Vocals are that big operatic Italian (actually French, but fuck it!) sort I've heard in a few Morricone soundtracks, laid down over a fantastic psychedelic haze part early Pink Floyd (Saucerful of Secrets) part Amon Duul 2. A genuine lost gem that seems on par with the best from this period (late 60's/early 70's)

I watched the first series of BBC's Wallander adaption and thought the music was quite nice. I was disappointed to find that there is no soundtrack release, though I stumbled upon a CD of selected tracks from the Swedish adaption. Not what I was looking for, but it's nice - I don't regret the purchase.

Also stumbled upon this composition that was inspired by the last Wallander novel. I like it a lot - enough that I went ahead and jumped to reading The Troubled Man, instead of sticking to reading them chronologically as I'd intended.

Just discovered it recently, so it is all one big wash of greatness to me. Very hard to integrate into the stuff I cut my teeth on 20 years ago.

Milieu - Reverb Microcoma [Expanded]
I did an album trade with the man that is Milieu and Coppice Halifax, and got this really nice album as a download code. Some very laid back melodic downtempo music that really isn't too be missed. He now mostly makes music as Coppice Halifax in the Dub Techno and Analog Braindance stuff, but this is a very nice album to wind the day down with. I'm really in love with this. You need some downtempo/IDM that is just chilled, go no further than this. At times there is a nice BoC type feel. I really don't know why more people don't know of this artist.

Coltrane's Live in Japan. A weird release because to my knowledge it has only been issued once on CD back in 1991 in mono, and there's no way to really put it out on vinyl (although it has been attempted) without splitting tracks (many are more than 40 minutes.) The whole set is 4 discs. Possibly one of the most obscure Coltrane releases at this point, but well worth checking out.

Seems like remastered version of the third disc has been put out much more recently: http://www.amazon.com/Concert-In-Japan- ... e+in+japan

The older set is still available here: http://www.amazon.com/Concert-In-Japan- ... e+in+japan

David Bowie - Young Americans

I don't know how I overlooked this album before. Amazing album. I probably let the whole thing play on repeat four or five times today. Very well could be my favorite album of all time.

Die Propheten by Das Ich and Midnight Flowers by Golden Life.
The latter can be nicely filed under "phony Madchester", but it's very - for lack of a better English word - Pomeranian at heart and was truly alternative in its time and place. Took me two decades to appreciate just how quixotic it was.

Woah, I was meaning to check out this band since one of my favorite bands, and local one at that, The Dead Girls played a show with them and told everyone they'd be sorry if they didn't grab their music. Though this was on their facebook page as I can't seem to ever get out to a The Dead Girls show. After hearing this tune, I must check them out.

Beck "Morning Phase"

After 14 years, a proper follow up to Sea Change, probably one of my favorite albums. Always planned on one day picking up the Super Audio CD or DVD Audio version (surround sound high resolution format discs) but that got put on hold after my dedidicated CD player bit the dust and I am using a Blu-Ray player to play CDs at home now.
