Yea she's the final boss. Or rather, she's riding on the back of the final boss, which is some sort of white bug-like dinosaur. When I went to HEY on the opening day, a giant standee of the fat lady was right at the top of the escalator, and the first thing I thought was "man, that thing is gonna be the last boss?"BulletMagnet wrote:InsertCredit posted a link a bit back to this video, which I don't think has been posted here yet...most notably, perhaps, it includes images of a rather, er, big-boned woman who I assume is Aki and Palm's ma, probably the final boss. Reminds me of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland...
I'm heading out to HEY now to spend the day with Mushi 2, hopefully I can figure out the loop question. Personally I'd really like to see one. Original's patterns are so fast and Maniac's are so vicious on the first round as it is, a loop would be the burliest challenge from Cave in years.

Yea, I figure I should take advantage of it while I can. Good things don't last forever...
But as for Mushi Futari:
I played it more today and still think it rocks out. Easily my favorite Cave game since Ketsui, it's very accessible and fun to play. Those that complained the original's Original Mode was just a sped-up Psikyo monkey difficulty should be more interested in the more complex patterns and stiffer challenge here, specifically in the bosses. These guys are out for blood and will eat your yen much faster than any bug from the first. Even the second stage squid will give you a way harder time than the fourth boss pond-skimmer from the first game.
After playing maybe a half dozen rounds this afternoon, I made it to the third boss on one man and the fourth boss on one credit. I still don't know if there's a loop or no (I'm betting when I go again on the weekend when it's packed and the master nerds come out I'll find out the truth), but if there is I'm betting the main requirement to get it is not bombing. This game really frowns on usage of the B button, as it cripples your score readily. I saw a guy get half way through stage five in Maniac without bombing and he rocked the scoreboard, whereas the rest of us that let them fly at the slightest hint of danger sat in the back row of the scores. (BTW, the default initials on the board are SWY and TAC...I know I've seen TAC in the games before, but I can't remember them including Yusemi). But back to the bombs: the real kicker is they only give you two bombs to pick up in the entire game! That's a first for them, I think. You don't see any until the fourth boss' entrance and I'm pretty sure there's only one more in the fifth stage.
The patterns in Maniac are rough for sure and somewhere inbetween the first game's Maniac and Ultra mode. Still not sure how the meter at the top works but it seemed quite different from the first game.
I'm curious to see where master players will take this game. I saw one guy make an error then just give up his credit and all I could think was "man, it's been out for 3 days, you can make a mistake and still be in shape for the DVD." These Japanese, though.

That's probably due to SWY's world record 2.6 billion autofire score in Mushi Maniac mode.NTSC-J wrote:(BTW, the default initials on the board are SWY and TAC...I know I've seen TAC in the games before, but I can't remember them including Yusemi).
Thanks for the continued impressions. I bet you're right in that you have to no bomb the first loop to get a second loop. I'm really looking forward to playing Futari! I've ordered the Mushihime-sama PCB to tide me over in the mean time.

Full captured vids of stages 1, 2, and 3 in Original mode. The player is using Abnormal Reco, and is only using the shot button throughout:
http://akasoukou.sakura.ne.jp/douga15.html
First time I've seen the game recorded directly from the vid feed and not from a camcorder.

Bad news, there's no loop.
At least I don't think so. I watched a guy clear it tonight and he got an ending (dunno about credits, he skipped the 'epilogue' right away), plus a bonus 10 mil to his score for having a spare life in stock and when he entered his initials it said ALL. He bombed and died a lot, so I guess it's conceivable that if you go through it perfectly there could be an extra round or maybe a true final boss, but the ALL pretty much sinks that as far as I can tell. Cave usually just says stage 5 or 6 if you clear only the first round of one of their looping games.
twe, that link you posted doesn't seem to be working. Any chance you could upload it elsewhere?

Mushiluda in full flow.
EDIT: There's a bunch of Mushi Futari replays up on the Japanese replay tracker b-board.
http://b-board.rdy.jp/torrent/index.php
You're looking for files that begin with 虫姫さまふたり. ^_-
EDIT2: The stage3 giant spider just doesn't have the same aesthetic beauty or style as Guwange's Catspider. -_-;;
Final attack pattern looks quite nasty, though.

Abnormal Reco full Stage 4 Original mode vid, from the same site I posted earlier in this thread:
http://akasoukou.sakura.ne.jp/douga15.html
The site goes up and down, so if you can't load the page just try again later. You'll get through eventually. I'm downloading it right now so the site seems to be working ATM.

There's a torrent of the Maniac Mode stage4 boss in 30fps and 60fps flavours, plus a stage4 midboss clip.
It's the torrent listed as 虫姫さまふたり_4中ボスと4ボス at http://b-board.rdy.jp/torrent/index.php
As usual, a bittorrent client is required.

If you dig Mushi's art, Cave put up two wallpapers for downloading.

You know, stage 5 does have some really good music. Stage 4 isn't too bad either... but on the whole, I'd say that the soundtrack pales in comparison to the first game.Icarus wrote:Reko (Abnormal Type), Original Mode Stage 5 replay up at the same link TWE posted, plus stage3 boss clip.
Go here.
Stage 5 background music kicks ass, has a very oriental sound to it.
And I give props to the guy in that stage 5 video for managing to survive as long as he did against the final boss's ridiculous final form.
And is it just me, or does Abnormal not do jack all for damage?

I'd have to watch again to be sure, but for most of the replays (until stage 5) the guy seemed to hardly ever use the "piercing shot" or whatever it's called, most every midboss vanished offscreen before he could kill it. Maybe he was going for extra "per-shot" points or something?Kiken wrote:And is it just me, or does Abnormal not do jack all for damage?
Anyways, this game looks brutal for someone of my shmupping caliber...stage 5 would outlast me no matter how hard I'd practice. Most replays posted so far seem to have been Original mode...are fewer people playing Maniac?

Actually, Abnormal Rapier Shot seems to do even less damage than Abnormal Rapid. The ballance being that you can lock the options onto a target.BulletMagnet wrote:I'd have to watch again to be sure, but for most of the replays (until stage 5) the guy seemed to hardly ever use the "piercing shot" or whatever it's called, most every midboss vanished offscreen before he could kill it.
