I just wait it out.

Besides for that, I havent found a way dodge it. I'm stuck on the level 3 mid boss. Granted, I've probably only put a couple hours into the game (and I'm not the best shmup'er at that..).

Yeah, I've only got to play it for a few hours altogether too.

I just got mine from Gamestop!!!

I'll have to wait 'till next week to open it for my birthday. And, of course, act surprised.

I found a copy at a Gamestop today.

Fun! But it feels a little...deja vu?

You can't dodge that attack. Depending on your type of play, which character you use, and how aggressive you are you can use the shikigami attack against the 2nd stage boss once he makes it to where you can't shoot. For example If you're using Kohtaro then you can hold down the shoot button and dodge his attacks in the bottom left corner or you can use Roger and be in front of the boss and release your shikigami attack. I've found that Roger does ridiculous damage to bosses with his shikigami attack. Hope that helps :D

According to the book, you can use a Gamecube controller too! I'm thinking I may bust out my old arcade stick to give this one a whirl.
Good news! :)

I'll be chillin' in Southgate all tomorrow. Can you tell me exactly what place it is? 'Gotta pick this fucker up. 'cause Ypsi mail is terrible and awfulness.
Microcenter, unfortunately, is up in Clawson off of 14 Mile and I-75. Dunno if anywhere closer has it in.

I put a bit of time in, and the game is fun! Wacky voice acting is intact, which I'm happy about.
Thanks. Picked up their last one. I've never heard of Micro Center. What a neat place.

I found at least two copies at my closest GS. Let me know if somebody needs me to grab one, I'll probably nab the other one myself.

True, I just found that out by myself today. Thanks for the tip though!

So yeah my copy arrived in the mail.

-Reika feels like easymode as her shiki burns through bosses so quickly(not to mention it slows her down making bullets easier to dodge/grind).
-I like how right before you get to the final form of the last boss all of your lives/bombs get replenished. If more shooters did that I'd probably have way more 1CCs under my belt.
-Holy crap are there storylines for every possible character/character-combination? If I can't 1CC this game in Xtreme mode III after completing every possible scenario I should probably give up shooters(my best so far after a few playthrough attempts is 2 continues. I used Reika/? the Korean Surgeon...forgot her name)
-Overall I really like it. Its not exactly fresh and fantastic but I'm having fun with it and the wacky characters are certainly helpful in keeping my interest.

If not EVERY character combination, then the majority of them. This and the Hi-Tension MAX system were the two big things being emphasized about Shiki 3.

Hopefully my copy is waiting for me to get home from work so I can play it over the long weekend.
...I know you can do dynamic character switching or whatever, but with all the fond co-opping memories of my youth it'll be bittersweet not having anyone to play 2P with. :(

You just improved my workday by 1000%. Thank you.

Got my copy. Thoughts: Variations in characters is pretty cool; gives it longevity. Graphics suck from a polygon perspective, but the aesthetic is overall very good. Dunno why, but I like arcade soundtrack a little better. And slowdown for dramatic explosions are the bane of my existence.

I'll make a video review of this shortly and post it in here. And no, I won't do the stereotypical review. If you want a taste of my review style, check out my SSR video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3oEEpszPZI

Question: Any known differences between director's cut and Arcade? If there is a thread that already goes over this or it is explained in this thread, ignore me.

What do you mean by that? Works like every other game played with the Freeloader.

I have PAL Wii, freeloader + Shiki 3 (JAP), works like a charm. No problems as far as I know. So US version should work too.

I would like to know whether it runs 100% or it gives problems. Even if the problems are still so small.

Highly recommended.
But i do like Karous Wii better.
BTW Shiki does indeed work with gecko Region free, so you could save your money on that freeloader.

Well i have a messed up taste in games, i guess ;D
I like the style of Karous, visual and gameplay-wise.
Shiki is really cool too, but the last levels are pure evil.

I just noticed that it runs in 480i on the Wii. You guys think that Aksys is giving the "finger" to Microsoft's & Sony's graphical standards?

Is that a typo, or are you saying the game lacks 480p support?

Should run in either 480i or 480p with a component cable depending on your interlaced/progressive setting in the Wii system settings.

I am not sure what you mean about Microsoft and Sony, if you can buy a S-video cable for X360 or PS3, isn't that signal also a kind of 480i?

I think the Wii in general is giving the finger to Sony and MS standards, seeing how every game is made to display on a standard definition TV. But hey, this is great for shoot-em-ups seeing how there's no lag to contend with.

Anyway... Not sure if I'll be picking this up. I bought the second one for PS2 years ago. I disliked it so much I actually bothered to take it back despite it only costing about 15 bucks. As to why I disliked it? I haven't a clue; guess I just wasn't in the right mood or something.

At my local Electronics Boutique, that USA PS2 version of Castle Shikigami 2 was a mere $9.99 MRSP...not a bad price for newly released PS2 game on day one... ^_~

That was an excellent review of SSR; I look forward to your review of this shmup!

My main problem with this series is that I suck with anyone but Kohtaro Kuga, and his "ghost" shiki attack.

It lacks 480p support. It does run in 16:9, but when it starts up, the screen flashes and when it comes back on, it's only half as bright as when it was on the Wii menu. And when I click "INFO" on my remote, it tells me that it's running in 480i. I currently have 2 other games that do that. Metal Slug Anthology and King of Fighters '94.

My Wii is hooked up to a 26" widescreen Samsung LCD HDTV via Nintendo's own component cables. I can play SSBB, Mario Galaxies, Geomentry Wars, and even Lords of Thunder in 480p. Those 3 games are the only ones that I've found that will disable the 480p setting.

There's very little chance Aksys would have stripped 480p from the US release, given their track record with Guilty Gear.

It's likely that the Wii port never had 480p—lazy on Alfa System's part, but seems like a common occurrence with console ports. :?

The game still looks good on my setup. No blurring or artifacts. 480i means that it's interlaced, just like 1080i but at a lower resolution. If it wasn't for the "INFO" button on my remote, I wouldn't have known that it was running in 480i.
