Can't see this selling well at all. It's so unbelievably bland, visually. A shame, as I really wanted to see a Borderdown port.

Quite looking forward to this one. Always thought it was pretty decent on the DC.

AmiAmi are sold out of all versions (limited and regular for both PS3 and 360).

I don't know how much stock they would usually get or how much of their business is non-residential (presumably a fair bit seeing as the PS3 version has sold out and it's region freeness is obviously attractive to importers) but it seems as though there is demand for this game. Granted they do have the best price on it, but it's selling nonetheless.

I'm sure it would sell well if sensibly priced and given an NTSC/PAL release. I'd imagine helicopter shooter is an easier sell to the west than loli rape simulator.

I always thought it was a pretty good looking game. Nothing wrong with some real-world looking stuff, on occasion. It's well done.

Sorry for asking, but what mistakes exactly? Mamoru-kun? That was four years ago and wasn't exactly a mistake. If there has been any tragic behind-the-scene stuff lately that I'm not aware of, I apologize for my assumption.

Maybe it didn't sell that well, but I doubt G.rev had Cave-like sales expectancies for it.

Strania was probably a financial mistake: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... tcount=964

Not according to the interview quote posted above.
Maruyama was very frank that Grev games always sell about 10,000 + a thousand or two in terms of sell-in.
Sounds like about half of what Cave sell on average. This might explain why this new release has sold out, because the production run is tiny.

Mamoru-kun, Strania, and the console port of Senko no Ronde DUO.

Mamoru-kun is a real tragedy. It could have been a pretty good game had G.rev and/or Gulti fixed the issues people had with the scoring system. They had multiple opportunities to fix it, yet they did nothing. It's sales could have been a lot higher than what they ended up being.

Strania was in development hell for a few years iirc. And personally, I didn't find the end product to be very appealing.

As for Senko DUO...the console port was delayed by a month due to it being really buggy, and when it finally did release it was still buggy. On top of that, the changes that were made to the core gameplay upset a number of hardcore Senko players (myself included), though the changes turned out being for the better in the end. Finally, G.rev took a gamble with the port's story mode : they were clearly hoping that a visual-novel-ish story mode (combined with the more noob-friendly gameplay changes) would allow the series to reach a broader audience, though sadly their gamble did not pay off. The production of DUO's story mode could not have been cheap (tons of voice-work, character and background artwork, writing the script, etc). They were hoping to expand upon the story mode with DLC episodes, but due to the lower-than-expected sales of both the port and the first set of DLC, they were forced to cancel the rest of the DLC episodes they had planned.

Mamoru-kun was a mistake.
Mamoru is getting a "BEST" release for PS3, so I guess PS3-version saved the day.

Some more screenshots posted on Adriasang.

One thing that's becoming readily apparent about New Order Mode is that you won't be able to 'seal' bullets like you can in Arcade Mode (using the screen-scroll method, I suspect you can still seal bullets by hovering directly over a target though).

There's no boss music in New Order mode? According to this.

You can see it in the 7 minute preview video. The player gets to the boss of stage 1, the music initially fades out as normal but then it just continues looping the stage theme.

It's the exact same video. Anyway, I'm not going to buy it unless that's fixed.

It's either an error with the mode (boss tracks are there but the game glitches when trying to switch to them), or the possibility that the new arranged soundtrack doesn't have boss tracks (the preview featured stage tracks only).

What is "sealing" bullets and the "screen roll method"?

Sealing bullets is where you use your proximity to prevent enemies from firing shots. Not every game features this mechanic. Both of Ketsui's loops, Hellsinker, Mars Matrix (sort of), and several other games use the mechanic.
(HEY BULLETMAGNET, you should totally add this to the STG Glossary ^_~)

Can't comment on screen roll.

I'm talking about how you can cancel enemy fire simply by moving them off-screen (since you have control over the horizontal field of view simply by moving left or right). By displaying the entire width of the play-area, you can no longer move these enemies temporarily off-screen.

Ah I think I see what you mean. So the width of the play-area in arcade is wider than what it actually displays, so you've got a bit of scroll to both the left and right?

Precisely. It's very important as it grants the player another method of controlling what they dodge.

The practice is actually already included under the item "Dead Zone", though I hadn't heard the "Sealing" term before: I'll consider adding it once I finish up the articles I'm working on and actually have time to update the thing!

Does anyone know if 480i/p is supported? Or will we be stuck with a letterboxed 16:9 on standard def CRTs?

The game has an aspect ratio select (either 4:3 or 16:9). If you select 4:3, you can play Arcade Mode in tate and it will fill the screen, however, New Order Mode will be letterboxed on a 4:3 screen (as the native aspect ration for that mode is 16:9).

NCSX says they'll be getting it on Thursday. I'm actually pretty excited. Not sure why...since I have the DC version.

I hope this version is definitive, so I could sell my DC version. I'm broke as hell.

Under Defeat's wiki page makes me giggle.

"It uses 3D graphics, and a slightly angled perspective to give the game more depth than most other titles in the genre."
