Ok, this is slightly better due to one less death, but still not really what I would like to see. Should have spent more time trying different boss strategies and routes, but since I started seriously playing this game only on Saturday, there wasn't that much time for me, so I decided to polish this route instead. I really enjoyed playing it, though.

Oh crap... If we don't have 3 submissions, can I submit one of my teammate's scores that was most certainly made during the week? I mean, you can even verify, as you lurk our forum, DJI =) I know Boric posted a "just in case" score, but I don't know if joystickchris(carrotpanic) did or not...

I tried improving my score, albeit unsuccessfully. The one time I got past neon light illusion, I somehow died to deadly crescent (zone q boss) :-/. I probably could have scored somewhere around the high 11 million/low 12 million mark too.

Anyways, here is my replay, though I'm not sure why people would want it since my score 7th place. (I forgot sikraiken)

Oh yeah, I used Wolfmame99plus. I know PROMETHEUS had a mediafire link for it in the Dodonpachi thread, but I don't want to link to his stuff without his permission.

Because it's a team effort, and they take the top 3 from each team? Unless you've placed #4 or lower amongst SDA, then your team would probably want your score in there -_^

Well yeah, I know my team wants my score, but I don't think people want to see a replay that isn't the best score (or near it).

Ooohhh, I get what you mean. I dunno, I like watching the "human-plays" just as much if not moreso than the "super-plays." You'll see a lot of changes in strategy to accommodate the lack of godlike skills, and is almost more helpful than watching SWY or someone rape the living shit out of a game =)

just wanna take part in the discussion that was happening while I was partying on the weekend :)

The Darius series is a love-hate series to me. I never played much of Darius 1, but I find Darius 2 to be an enjoyable old-school shmupe... up until when I lose my first life. It's worse than Gradius on this aspect (It's worse than anything, I don't know any other game that suffers worse than Darius of the "Die and you are screwed" syndrome). The game has a very dated level design, the enemy patterns are very dated (Yes, even by 1989...) I mean, look at Omega Fighter and R-Type 2, both games released at the same year, and they have more complex and advanced level design than Darius 2.... on the level design of Darius 2 feels like a speeded-up shmup from 1983. So yeah, the game is incredibly flawed, but there's some fun there (at least up until you lose your 1st life :D)

Darius Gaiden isn't much different. While playing it this week, at many moments I was thinking something like "Jesus, the enemies just fly at my direction in a straight line! I could design this game myself in 30 seconds". Like Herr Schatten said, the shield feels like something to compensate for bad level design, and even though I 1LC no-bombed the game, There were many moments that I just saw the screen and thought "Ok, I am glad I have this shield, because there's NO FUCKING WAY TO GET PAST THIS WITHOUT BEING HIT". The game has its good moments (That first bullet spam from Neon Light Illusion is very cool, and I think it's possible to get past it without a shield, you just have to learn how to manipulate the bullet spam), and while the game is enjoyable, it's obvious it's an incredibly flawed game.... maybe it's the japanase taking on doing an euro-shmup :)

G-Darius is much better.

EDIT: Oh ,and I think we should accept _Bnu score... I wouldn't mind

Minus Akkanvader, check Taito's shooting game catalog from 1990(89?)-1995 for more examples.

I don't think Taito make "euroshmups alike", I think Darius is their taking on doing euroshmups :)

None of the "Ray" games has anything with euroshmups :D

Rayforce is probably the best shooting game they did during that period, sans Akkanvader.

And I think it's the worst in the series.

Besides, Taito wasn't known for their shooters during that time. Puzzle Bobble! Image

are you talking about shmups or their whole catalog?

And they released RYUJIN on this period! Come on, Ryu Jin rules! I think we should play Ryu Jin on the hidden gem week

RULZ R RULZ!

One of our players did some last minute runs, but ran out of time. He should get an extra hour then too!
