Been listening to a lot of Tiamat's Wildhoney lately. At work, while exercising, while gaming... it's fantastic, one of those albums I can put on repeat and not get sick of. Wish there was a 5.1 mix, because I'd it would be a good excuse to hook up the home theater system again.

Of the Wand and the Moon - The Lone Descent. Came out in 2011 but I still constantly listen to it.

Listening to Henry Cow on headphones tonight. These albums have been with me for 20 years, but they are still so rich with ideas. Unrest is the one I keep coming back to because it is dense, abstract and at times stand offish. The other albums seem slightly more approachable, and so at two decades later, this has become the most interesting:

Wish I would have heard this sooner. Every track on it is sick. I like his Wagon Christ stuff and stuff like that, but I've never heard anything like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK7MPFxw8w4

Pantera's "Vulgar Display of Power" and Faith No More's "Angel Dust"

Those have been my current favorite albums.....since 1992.

Oh god yes, one of my favourite groups ever, a collection of excellent musicians with great chemistry. I think they are hands down the best from the original RIO movement. War has everything one could want from a 2 minute song.

Portal are very good too, one of the best metal bands I know of

I've never been able to get interested in Henry Cow before (and not really now either), but then again I listen regularly now to a lot of groups I'd never have given the time of day as recently as two years ago, so it's clear that my musical palate still has room for expansion and I might yet find a place in my heart for them.

Recently I've been revisiting an old favourite, Foxtrot by Genesis. Still about the most beautiful and expressive 50 minutes of rock music I've ever heard.

Vienna Art Orchestra - Swing & Affairs. A great example of what modern big band can be.

Yup, all that old Peter Gabriel Genesis continues to deliver.

Aye, Portal are brill. One of the scant few good fan-made music videos I've seen featured Portal's Abysmill set to scenes from Fritz Lang's Metropolis. It was fucking sublime.

I'm in search of hip hop. When I was commuting, I used to listen to Mr. Lif a lot (especially Emergency Rations and I Phantom - a dilogy dare I say), as well as Violent by Design (it was cheaper, easier and safer than taking drugs). Nowadays I find the former a tad too bleak. As for Violent by Design, well, I'm in no mood for this kind of drugs at the moment (same with Operation: Mindcrime).
What I find most uplifting these days is Enta da Stage by Black Moon. No idea why.
Check out this music video. Amateurish like hell, but not exactly bad.

Hoyl shit, people actually listening to Henry Cow.
Leg End and Unrest are easily two of my favorite albums of all time.
Bassoon in a rock band setting is nothing but pure genius.

Love that Frith guitar.

Just picked up:

Grimes - Visions
Scott Walker - Bish Bosch
Sigur Ros - the new one

Only listened to Grimes so far and it's ace. Kind of minimal techno-ish with wispish vocals and some lovely arrangements.

I am a bit scared to listen to the Scott Walker.

Not too sure how into darker hip hop you are, but based on the couple you mentioned, these might be up your alley.

jakprogresso - check out his bandcamp. Probably my fav MC for the last 5-10 years, but he is insane and his subject matter can turn off some.

boxguts - same label as jak; pretty psychedelic

lodeck - also same label as jak; I dig his older stuff more than his new stuff, but most seem to prefer his newer stuff so maybe I'm just weird.

Chief Kamachi - You will likely dig him a lot if you like JMT

Also, since you note Violent by Design, are you at all familiar with JMT's later stuff? The follow up to Violent by Design, Visions of Gandhi, is phenomenal! Check the discog here

You would also probably like Reef the Lost Cauze(JMT affiliate/Army of the Pharoahs member), pretty dope style.

You would probably also really like Non Phixion - Ill Bill, Sabac Red and Goretex with DJ Eclipse(no longer around, but they put out some solid music when they were doing things)

If you dig this stuff hit me up and I can recommend some more in this vein.

The new Autechre album also came out a month ahead of schedule! http://www.autechre.ws/exai/
Initial impressions from others are pretty unanimously positive. I've bought the tracks and I swear I'm going to listen to like nothing else for a week.

Lush - Gala, Spooky, everything.

The new MBV is mediocre. The cover art reminds me of installing Windows 95 software. A side picks up where Loveless left off, but the B side is pretty good.

I get to see Infest, Los Crudos, Constatine Sankathi, Bolt Thrower, Autopsy and maybe Clikatat Ikatowi this year.
Holy Fuck, I'm glad I live here.

I've been listening to it a lot too, on several different systems. I don't find it as good as Oversteps, Draft, or Confield, my three favorites, but its pretty good. Probably on par with Quaristice or Move of Ten for me. Don't like the second disc much though.

My favorite album of theirs is probably Untilted, but this is a close second.

The second CD has 3 pretty weak tracks in a row - nodezsh and runrepik do nothing for me, and I don't like spl9 at all - but deco Loc through YJY UX is one of the high points of the album.
