Well okay, that charging mechanism then. The 3DS and the older GBA SP have it, but not an iPod Touch or this Laptop I'm using.
To be honest, my line of thought was rather "overcharging by nature is a damaging action, and instead there should be ways to not make it happen while retaining the function of using your hardware normally while being plugged in".
Reason I think this way is that the series of laptops (Fujitsu T-Series) I have been using will automatically stop charging its battery (or batteries) once it has been charged to 80~100% (configurable) and run on the main power supply. That way I don't have to physically remove my battery to prevent cycling charge needlessly when I have it plugged in for long periods of use.
Speaking of which, does anyone else here have a habit of removing their laptop batteries when fully charged (if necessary)?
For the former, I guess it's one of the things Apple puts in that eventually means you'll have to give them more money to replace it, though it's not like they're the only ones who can do it.
That's partly why I'm not very keen on Apple products myself.
