Still working on GundeadliGne Demonic difficulty. I should be seeing stage 3 soon in it though once I figure out how to properly handle El Dorada and Elysium with Nagi and/or stop screwing up the rest of the stage so much.

Such a fun yet frustrating mode though.

Getting stonewalled on Gradius where you get to the brains with arms coming out of them. Level 5, I think? If you die once to those bastards you have to go completely naked, without even a speed upgrade. I wonder if it's even possible?

It's definitely possible, aye. Try getting there with fewer options and the double shot instead of the laser. You should see big difference in the rank...

I mean is it still possible if you screw up and die there. I know some folks have mentioned that certain checkpoints completely screw you, but I wasn't sure if that was just bellyaching. Has anyone negotiated the brains whilst naked?

In case you already understood that: As far as rank goes, I no-missed up till that point, which means I got five deaths from the mindflayers. Shouldn't that have nuked my rank enough?

Ketsui Death Label- finally cleared Very Hard course after 75hrs+ of gameplay.
Although I'm normally a fan of confidence I actually thought I'd never clear this so baby what a big surprise!

Still DDP:R for me. I know it's kind of casual played purely from a survival viewpoint, but fuck me it's harsh to play for score. Loving every single minute though, and meddling a little with arrange A and Death Label only increases my admiration at how one template can be twisted to provide such different experiences. Just ordered Futari, Katana is due in a few months, and Raiden Fighters finally seems to be coming, so it's going to be a good year.

I finally got the PGM mobo I'd been seeking and played a bit of DDP II this morning.

Pretty damn boring until the 3rd or 4th stage. It makes you appreciate DDP... in every way. In fact, playing this game is sort of like having a confused dream about DDP... "it was like I was playing DDP, but things were different..."

Don't you hate it when you practice an attack for a while and actually get worse?

I remember when I was playing Touhou 8 and trying to get Kaguya down - after an hour practicing Brilliant Dragon Bullet my capture rate went down to like 3/90. Now I'm playing DOJ, trying to go for a quick and dirty 1cc, and I decided to practice the Stage 3 final attack for a half-hour.

Consistency going in was 3/4. Going out it's something like 1/5. I don't think savestates helped very much.

And now whenever I do that attack in a run I'll think about how bad I am at it (though it's mainly that i was just doing that damn attack over and over and getting really frustrated) and I'll start failing it again.

Personally if I get there I just sit under where one of the cheese graters is gonna fall from and spaz up and down. Or I just bomb it.

You just get tired of the same shit and lose concentration...

Best runs are allways the ones in which you are less nervous... and less aware of the score/performance...

Just got the PCB (WL but with... *ehm* AWESOME roms) yesterday.
Made it to Stage 4 boss on the first credit.
Can honestly not see what people find so ridiculously hard with DOJ.

DoDonPachi, now I'm consistently reaching Stage 3, although I usually bomb past the boss. Then I die somewhere in the middle/end of stage 4, and then even if I reach the boss, that jet blast thing kills me.

Sorry for the late response! Yeah, you've sussed it; it's always possible to recover from a death there, especially if you're proactive about taking out the arms.

I kinda sorta just 1CC'd Gradius. Was playing on PSP with arcade settings, got to the part in stage 7 with the laser box. Saved and quit to see someone on youtube do it, since I keep dying there superfast. When I load it back up, I'm suddenly just past the laser box and go on to beat the game.

...Having a crisis of conscience, coz on the one hand I didn't knowingly exploit a glitch in the save system and kinda want to move on to Gradius 2, but on the other hand I didn't beat it as the game was originally intended. I guess I'll just say I 1CC'd Gradius PSP...

Doesn't the thing disappear if you checkpoint there? So that if you had spare lives you would have 1cc'd anyway?
