It was mostly a DOJ launch celebration stream, first hour+ was basically just talking about this new release. There was a a new announcement that the DOJ ship models previously produced by RC Berg several years back are getting another production run (see about 1:54:30 in the stream)

As others noted, I think the only real non-DOJ related thing was a short demo of Aleste Branch (around 1:30:00 into the stream) featuring an few minutes of gameplay and a few minutes of additional panel discussion. No console release confirmation or dates yet. No discussion of Toaplan either.

Around 2:01:00 they said this is the last live broadcast of 2023, no plans yet for next year's streams. I would assume the next stream will be some time relatively early next year, at which time they'll probably confirm the next Toaplan Arcade Garage, maybe some other announcements (like another non-Toaplan ShotTriggers release?)

YesAsia just delayed my shipping date to December 13th, so I suspect they are waiting for more stock. I was hoping to play this before the New Year, but oh well.

I couldn't help myself and picked up the digital version while my physicals are still in transit.

Playing day 1 is pretty much the only time I'll ever be first place on a leaderboard for a Cave game :D

It runs exactly how you would expect.
Super easy is pretty easy but still managed to lose a life to hibachi, so will go back for a no miss run.

The new arrange modes are fun as well.
They are more score than survival focused.
I'm not a great player and managed to clear Arrange-L first go and died to hibachi on Arrange-S.

So far I’ve cleared the Super Easy mode and first Arrange (all hyper all the time mode). Nearly completed the second arrange but lost towards the end of the TLB. Second arrange mode is cool and has a sort of DFK auto-bomb/auto-hyper spin which is a lot of fun and much more approachable than white label.

The new arrange soundtrack absolutely kicks ass too!

Pretty cool that they built in some friendlier modes into this one beyond supereasy

Lots of Mushi Futari like bullet cancels in Arrange-L as well, which is lots of fun.

Isn't Arcade sort of Custom mode in this? I don't think the other main Shot Triggers games allow you change settings in their Arcade modes?

Mines out for delivery! Hopefully it doesn't get delivered to the wrong house like my KOF13... Anyways, I'm stoked to check it out this weekend, this is an all-timer for me.

My PS4 Limited Edition just arrived from Amazon Japan. They told me to expect it on 12/11 Monday. Not complaining! FWIW I do live in California.

It's a big package (bigger than my Battle Garegga Premium), so I can see why CD Japan had to update their invoice for my Switch LE.

Same thing for me, Switch LE arrived today from Amazon.jp after initial shipping estimates of December 12-14, then changing to December 11. I'll take it!

Also west coast US here.

My copy from Amazon Japan arrived today too; excited to dig in! I'm one beer deep so I'm not going to be setting any score records, but that's fine.

My shipping also said the 11th at first, then came today. Not sure what they used for you, but mine was shipped via DHL; my experience is they underpromise on delivery dates, but usually overdeliver.

I was hoping mine would come today, and it got to the DHL wharehouse near me at like 5 am, just never went out for delivery. I don't know if they do Saturday deliveries, but looks like tomorrow or Monday for mine.

Zero Fire comes with Horror Story
Hishou Same! Same! Same! comes with Wardner
Kyukyoku Tiger-Heli comes with Get Star

Digital version I think is sold separately as DLC.
For physical; Switch is on Cart / PS4 physical is a DLC code.

I have never played the arcade versions of this game before, just PS2 (and only like 3 times there, as I spent most of my time with Death Label because I am weird), but I find Black Label to be relatively playable for an arcade bullet hell game, and I made it halfway through 1-3 on my second time playing Black Label. Survival 1-ALL should probably be possible. Still hate the tiny hurtboxes in these types of games due to difficulty reading them, but I'll probably try for it eventually™.

Just an entire new game with GG Aleste 3. 😜
It is a really good new game, too!

At least the PS4 version's menus aren't weird.
It looks like players are beating Hibachi on PS4. https://twitter.com/ifc_srh/status/1732745354276458780
Looks like that was posted 2 minutes before I did, so the leaderboards might have been updating as I checked them. Seeing a launch day 2-ALL makes me happy.

I guess it works somehow though if you cleared a mode? I was going to order this on Switch now Play Asia have it back in stock, but less sure if it's knackered on day one :( As long as it's playable without the day 1 patch I'll pull the trigger on it
I checked M2's website to see the patch notes and it looks like there is some missing music and stuff that they patched in, but it should work without the patch.

PS4 LE finally showed up. The box is really thin, unlike the Aleste Collection LE. Time to see if the menus are as fucked on PS4 as they are on Switch, and also to see if anyone has killed Hibachi and set a new world record high score yet. Given the fervour that people have for this game for some reason, I'll be very disappointed if nobody has killed Hibachi yet.
Grand, thank you! Been holding off Zero Fire until I had a long enough delivery window so this has timed itself rather nicely
Just know that your menus on Switch Daioujou are probably going to be oddly laggy for some reason, but it seems to fix itself after a while. I'm guessing and hoping they will fix this in a patch soon, but gameplay seems unaffected by the lag, so it's not really that big of a problem. This only happens on Switch, not on PS4, but I've been busy with work and have barely had time to play it at all.

Speaking of lag, I noticed that the option to reduce input lag isn't present on Switch but it is on PS4. I wonder if this is related to that option causing the audio problems on Switch Hishou Same! Same! Same!, which is why they removed it from that collection.

And Get Star, as well! Wardner was about a year and a half ago on Hishou Same! Same! Same! and Horror Story is on Zero Fire.

Thank you AimeeSH and Steven! I will get the DLC on those today.

I do have a question.

What is the best version of DDP Daioujou to play? Is it the standard arcade one or black label?

I think the consensus is behind Black label. Arrange L is growing me.

Is there a good place to read what the differences are between modes? This game has always been a blind spot for me - time to learn!

From shmups.wiki:
DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label
This variant was a limited edition release. The arcade board includes the original and Black Label versions, which can be selected during boot time. The Black Label game can be identified by the black title screen. The original version is referred to as White Label.

Differences include the following:

The player can select 1 Loop Mode or 2 Loop Mode at the beginning of the game, after selecting a battle fighter and Element Doll. In 2 Loop Mode, after completing stage 1–5, the player now has the option to play the second loop as before, but in 1 Loop Mode, the player immediately fights Hibachi after defeating the normal final stage boss.
The player is no longer reduced to only one life when entering the 2nd loop.
The player can continue should they lose all their lives in the 2nd loop by inserting more coins and pressing START (and a second player can join in), up until they reach the true final stage.
The game is easier in general. The enemy bullets are fewer and move slower, but the changes are subtle.
The Hyper Meter fills faster than in the original.
Some bug fixes. The chain meter now has 5 digits, so it no longer rolls over if it reaches 9,999 hits. (In the original version, the chain meter counts internally correct, but displays only lower 4 digits.)
Both weapons are lowered by only one level upon respawning for all types when in the 2nd loop.

Time for a stupid question.

I recently discovered that Exy does not seem to make the game harder. After Saidaioujou, where expert mode makes the game harder, this is super strange to me, but then it also leaves me with a question: what is the point of Shotia and Leinyan (BTW there is some artwork included in the gallery here where it's spelled Laynyan, so now I'm not even sure what to call her anymore)? They get more bombs than Exy does, but using bombs is bad because lol CAVE, so I see literally no point in using either of them unless you just want to bomb your way through a 1-ALL.

Well, for one, there is ten years of time between DOJ and SDOJ, you know.

Secondly, don't you think there might be some disadvantages to picking the ship that has fewer bombs allotted to it? You do know you can bomb and still reach the second loop of DOJ, right?

That's right. I was under the impression that it was always like this since I've essentially never played this game before.
EmperorIng wrote: Sun Dec 10, 2023 7:50 amSecondly, don't you think there might be some disadvantages to picking the ship that has fewer bombs allotted to it?
Seeing that it's a CAVE game and therefore bombs are bad, no.

I didn't until you told me.
