Uhhh what? The entire score mechanic of the game is about cancelling bullets with your hyper.
I seriously can't think of anything meaningful to say to this.

I'm not an expert here, but I read the instructions once when I bought this game 3 months ago. It said your hit counter multiplier is only applied while your hyper gauge is full, so not using hyper after you build up a good hit counter is best.

Assuming I am not misremembering, Casper, I think this is a key point you might be missing.

Elixir, the way hypers cancel bullets in this game is identical to DOJ BL's: all bullets are canceled each time the hyper gauge is filled, as well as each time a hyper is activated.
alamone wrote:Based on my tw timeline...

Basically like "Daioujou 2".

Ship Type A/B/C different pilots

Dress system is basically the power emphasis system. Each pilot can choose:
Shot (Military wear) / Laser (Casual wear) / Expert (Swimsuit)

Picking shot does not nerf your laser
Picking expert increases game rank

Auto-bomb is selectable on/off

No powerup items

Combo gauge only decreases if combo is broken

You can use hyper right away once the gauge fills

Using hyper increases rank, enemy bullets faster but not as dramatic as daioujou

Hyper does not delete bullets, even when hyper ends
Moozooh, you're confusing me.

"Hyper does not delete bullets, even when hyper ends" means the shot doesn't cancel bullets like in DFK, and when the hyper ends, all bullets remain on screen. When you activate a hyper, however, all bullets are canceled. It's just like DOJ.

If you like the idea of bullet cancelling with hypers, you should prefer BL, because you're not meant to cancel in 1.5 for score.
Bullet cancelling in BL adds to your score though, so it should be right up your street, especially as you get to do it over and over and over.

EDIT: (Sorry, Erppo's post came in just before. Same thing basically.)
My BL board arrived back today, looking forward to playing it again shortly :D

Thread delivers.

Also I personally wouldn't whine about the hitboxes being a bit bigger - one of my main problems with newer CAVE games is the ridiculous hitboxes a la Mushihimesama 1 where you can pretty much randomly run through a solid wall and not get hit. This... looks really awesome actually. Boss patterns look fairly challenging.

Stage 1 looks abnormally short - timed at 1min 30sec from launch to warning sign, which is roughly Daifukkatsu's Stage 1 Omote length.
Done on purpose (shorter game), or a possibility of hidden routes?

I doubt it, since there's no bullet-cancelling from the hypers. This looks to play more like a straight-up Dodonpachi, or "Daioujou 2" as alamone put it, rather than anything similar to Daifukkatsu.
Illyrian wrote:TARGET OIL DRUMS FOR URA ROUTE!
I reckon if there is an Ura route, it'll have something to do with hyper rank, rather than a scenery-based unlock trigger.

Prob not a serious question, but by the time you get one home in early 2011 .. about $2500 all in.

I'm sure it's worse now.

Akai Katana standard edition at the moment is £1700, which is...over $3100?

Brand new it'll be close to £2000 I reckon.

Hmm, not what I saw. Looks like when you're in hyper mode you can break your chain (about 1:30 here) and in non-hyper mode you just have soft chaining.
Also hyper rank doesn't correspond exactly to the hyper level. The guy in the livestream activated a level 5 hyper and his gauge went from 0 to 3. :V

Cave's international shop is currently closed for mysterious reasons. No word if it's ever coming back.

If what Asada said holds true, this will never get a 360 or even a PS3 port. It'll be imprisoned in the smartphone ghetto forever, especially if the rumors of the game running on the un-emulatable PGM2 are true (in which case, PCB investors can feel incredibly smug again).

I'd easily give up Akai Katana US and Mushi HD for a SDOJ port.

Interesting, online anywhere? Anyone know? Even a price list?

This.

First thing I read today was Estebang going on about the new game being in 3D and a vertizontal...

Anyhow, the more I see of this the more I'm liking it. Looks like there wil be something to enjoy if not playing purely for score. A good blast.
