it looks cool.

Shame I'll probably only play this game like... hmm... about 15 years from now, when Mame will add it to its list of playable games, and my PC will have a 32-cores processor running at 25 ghz.

So there ARE some bullets in this game after all. And more than I expected, too.

Heh, well, yeah. I like games that go against the grain and cause mixed opinions (Ibara) -> cheap boards for poor people like me.

How universally liked was Progear again? Did it do well at the 'cades?

I'm just happy the game is forced scrolling. It really is a true shmup! :D

The 3 stages I've seen already lead me to believe this will be another "must buy". I love the multiplier thing in the bottom left corner.

Wow, talk about going back to your roots! Ibara what? It's about time!
BulletMagnet wrote:...and I don't think it'd kill the designers to give you a second's heads up before you get a popcorn enemy up the tailpipe, and the game becomes yet another headache-inducing memorizer...seriously, why do side-scrollers seemingly feel a need to do this?
Check out the vid above, Stage 3. Looks like Cave foresaw this problem to some degree because in one section there is indeed a warning of enemies approaching from behind (and in front, when facing backward).

Anyone else getting a Gundemonium/Gundeadligne vibe from the boss bullet patterns?

This is shaping up to be a good game, shame we may not get a port though the discussions about Ketsui being ported make me wonder...

I did see the "enemy" arrows in a handful of spots, but there are far more instances where enemies barge in from an odd angle and no warning at all is given - unless Cave goes the "ghost" route and only lets shots (not enemies) damage you (unlikely), this could be an issue, or at least it would be for me.

I mean, come on - if they knew it'd be a pain in the kiester enough to put it in a handful of spots, why not put them anyplace where said problem arises? Seriously, how hard is this?

Probably because it would happen so often you would get tired of "that stupid warning thing."

Maybe I'm just weird, but I get tired of cheap memorizer deaths a lot more quickly.

EDIT - Also, not sure if this 2P vid was posted yet. It appears you might have the choice of the order in which to play the stages...wonder how this affects how difficult each one is.

Here's a huge photo collage:
http://pictoria.jp/0o0_070913_AMS45_DeathSmiles.jpg

And if ya'all were curious about what the B/W art that gets flipped through at the end of each level (ala ESP Ra.De., DDP DOJ) says, here are the quotes:

"Spirits of the dead"
"At the edge of our world"
"Voices from beyond the grave"
"The phantom prisoner"

-EDIT-

Added last quote (from train stage video).

seriously dude, there arent any more "memorizer" elements to what weve seen so far than any other cave title, you dont stay pressed against the top of the screen in espgaluda do you?
youre just projecting your personal dislike for horis into somekind of criticism.

anyways.. what hardware will this be on? looks like the cave booth is set up with segas naomi cabs and even tho i doubt its on Naomi those cabs can display 31khz only if theyre stock.

that boss in 2player vid looks sick!

It clearly looks SH3 from the explosion and particle effects (same as Futari and EspII). Its also 15khz as shown in this closeup picture of it running on the sega cab http://www.kobayan.jp/event/2007_am/ima ... 07-06l.jpg.

So what's with the Rank Select? Is that basically a way of choosing each stage's difficulty?

Hey, there seems to be obstacles in this one, pretty unusual for a cave game...

I had to double check to make sure it wasn't posted yet, but this is a pretty detailed video for a hand camera -

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with any particular preference of mine (aside from my preference for avoidable deaths) - my problem isn't that the title's horizontal, just that it (usually) doesn't warn you of attacks coming from a weak/unexpected side, a personal pet peeve of mine. Few Cave titles that I can call to mind ever pulled that sort of thing on you (offhand I might name DonPachi and Progear, if the "Cave-zing" titles don't count), and seeing this sort of thing making a comeback doesn't exactly get my blood pumping (at least, not in a good way).

If others don't mind it then I've no right to question anyone's preferences, but I can't help but feel at least slightly miffed that Cave didn't see fit to do much of anything to bypass this potential issue, especially when it's done so seemingly effortlessly in the past.
