Hehe, well I see there is a lot of controversy about the theme selection.

I wanted to have a wide selection of different games for this compo, but I think the "mainstream" shmups are also an important part of it. That's why I think I'll keep the Cave and the Raizing week, maybe also a Psikyo week. hmm... I will try to list the underrated games of these companies into the polls and avoid to list the overplayed ones. As much as possible...

But I think to some degree it is good and fair to have also some pretty familiar games in this competition. I am still planning to do the Retro, Horizontal and Hidden Gem week. Besides with retro I meant pre 1985 shmups, so think about Star Force, Xevious, Galaga, Juno First. I think these games are very well suited for score competition. But they are pretty much dismissed by the highscore boards.

And please let your game / theme suggestions coming. I am noting all of them and will try out these and check our highscore boards to see if they are potentially interesting for this competition (no broken milking etc.).

Yeah, I pretty much agree with DC906270. The UK top tier team now have 6 players (which you consider to be the strongest), while the lower tier has only 5 players left. I understand why you'd like to form the strongest toptier team possible, but you should be a bit nicer to the second UK team. Maybe we should balance those team out a little bit... ? We could base the UK team on regionals or try to get two similiar good teams together... ? I think it would be fair to your fellow countrymen. That's just my opinion though.

If the 2nd UK team is ok with this I won't argue. Well you have to decide for yourself. But I think DC has a point when he says that the winning chances for the second team are not very high. And a change in the team formation would be justified, in my humble opinion.

But this all is meant to be for fun, so if the members of both teams like you can stay like this.

By the way, I have a suggestion for a game for the retro-week: Beamrider

It's not an arcade game, but it was released in many home systems (Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Colecovision and MSX at least).. It's a very old shmup (1984 if I remember correctly), but it's very frantic and it does have a score system (In spite of being a very simplistic one).

I bet it would give a good score competition I just hope there isn't some kind of bug where someone can score endlessly

Since I Totally, utterly HATE this game I am happy to point out that it isn't a Shmup (not to this boards (and mine) defenition anyway!).

I want Recca as the retro week game. It is made for score competition, it's available to everyone (via nes emulation) and it's just utterly fantastic!
If we really need pre 1985 stuff then I'd love some Scramble, Xevious, Super Cobra, 1942(!!!) or even Star Force (I like it and don't mind competing with top players like DEL on this stuff).

I don't think we've actually settled on one actually, heh heh. Aside from "Team Loser," "International Brotherhood of Losers," "Republic of Crapistan," and "Legion of Losers" ("LOL"), I was also considering "Regional Organization For Losers" ("ROFL") and "Losers' Mediocrity Appreciation Order" ("LMAO") in case the group got big enough to split into factions. I see no reason to limit ourselves to one name, since, as was said earlier, whichever it is people know who we are. Heck, throw in your own name ("Kusoteam" has already come to the fore, methinks) if you feel up to it.
