Use an alpha beam on any area you're unsure of. Be sure to aim it at your targets instead of letting them fly into it to help build muscle memory for when you try that part for real. (Unless it was a really good place to build up your multiplier anyway.) Also, when you see those enemies that line up vertically to shoot, be sure to capture them as well as they'll give you a durable frontal shield to work with. Apologies if this advice comes off as redundant.
Was playing some DoDonPachi in MAME, bombed through the 4th boss and immediately died upon entering stage 5.
I was surprised I got so far, I was playing on a PS1 pad and haven't had much practice shmupping with it.
Not to mention that this is my first time getting past the 4th boss -- reached him twice before and I can't deal with that alternating jet blast thing it does.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Finally got myself a fully functioning PSP. Now its possible to finish up all the Darius series 1cc's.
Will also be sure to load up Gradius Portable after that. Just can't seem to resist seeing GIII's legendary difficulty first-hand...
At last... after 3 months of intermitent practice:
looped Dai Ou Jou... Or so It should have been. I don't know how to get rid of the "easy" rank (I recall playing easy and normal and they have the same patterns ¬¬) and I think that's why the game didn't let me continue onto the next loop (or should i get some badass requirements to get unto it?)...
Anyway... I dedicate this 1cc to Dr Trouser Plank... for allways non-believing in it.
Finally made it into the Mars Matrix top 20.
Going to keep practicing. Need that next digit, then need to go for a counter stop. (after I figure out stage 4, 5, & 6 and a decent chain in stage 3.)
Played some Gun Frontier today. Got to the final stage, when apparently the game switches to "shoot your 3 bombs through a spinning wall, or die once and game over"
I was actually having quite fun with the game, but that final level seems so out of place.
Thanks to your post, I'm quickly checking out Gun Frontier on Youtube... the aesthetic seems very much like Garegga, 5 years prior to Garegga's release. Did the two games share some staff?

Will try once I get there again -- I almost never reach Stage 4!
;-;
Also, playing Terra Diver [PS1], apparently I was playing the arrange mode, which is tons tons tons easier than the original mode.
It's like there's fewer but faster bullets, and I'm just getting sniped and point-blanked like hell.

Been playing Ketsui. Got to the st3 boss, which is pretty good for me.
Ketsui is awesome. I've been "a day away" from 1-ALLing it for about 2 weeks. No matter how well I do, I always end up with 2 lives going into Stage 5 and no lives/3 bombs for Evaccaneer. And when I do beat it it will be my third 1CC.
