You should have a room in your house with all of those porn game pcbs running on their own dedicated cab.... a dedicated woody, one might say.

A while ago someone asked to see what it looked like to have a lot of PCBs in the collection. Well..

Here it is... (it helps to think of 'Good Stuff' by the B-52s)

It started with a rack. It used to be full of those USPS boxes on their side. Yes I know it's bad to have a few with games horizontally stacked, no it's nothing that's worth a lot of money - actually I'm going to swap this rack out with another one of the ones you'll see later, because it's a bit crappy to be honest and not space efficient. The boxes hang off the front and back to start with. That huge box at the top is a complete Plotting kit, seriously.

Image

But soon the rack was full, so I started to abuse the top of my girlfriends bookshelves. I keep trying to kill this one off because it's a mess and stops air getting behind the shelves, but it keeps filling up. Eventually the room started to fill up too, and then the lounge did, and the study, and ..

Image

I needed a second full rack. This one bends because the shelves aren't as strong as the description said, in fact they're about half as strong. I'll be changing it soon for one of the ones coming up. This one has most of the vertical shooters in it, the small boxes are all full of SH-3 games, the kit boxes are stored elsewhere. Then the PCBs started to build up around the lounge again, eventually ending up with a pyramid of boxes in the middle of the floor. I sold an arcade machine to make some space.

Image

And rack 3 arrived. I put all the stuff from the lounge into rack 3 and it filled up almost instantly, but there were still loads of games in the post and many tucked away in the spare bedroom where the repair bench is. You know the drill....

Image

Yup, rack 4. And it's full.

Image

At this point aside from some for sale, there are no loose PCBs laying around the house which is actually a first. That's what 418 PCBs looks like.

It is really really impressive. You have a very nice library of PCBs there :-)

Instead of the written with the name of the PCB on the side of the cardboard, did you consider to use nice pictures (flyer, ingame..) of each game? IMO they look nicer and they also may help to find a particular game.

No, it would take way too much effort, besides each box has 1 to 5 games in it, depending on size and weight. You have to fill them so that when upright there's just enough space for the bubble bags to keep them straight without the pcbs being squashed or being able to lean on eachother. The games are grouped in boxes purely based on that instead of make, age, etc.

To keep track I use Excel ;) The sheet lists serial numbers, location, aspect, any notes, date of last battery change etc.

Thank heavens. I used to have the same size boxes for my PCBs, but now I just have them side by side on one shelf instead, like LPs. When the kids are older and more responsible, I will move them from the high shelf to big boxes instead, with cardboard sheets between each PCB to keep them from snagging each other. A very impressive collection, what's the porn game percentage these days, 20%?

As a bonus they're the maximum size for normal post service in the UK, within half a cm.

Awesome stuff. 8) Though in the last pic it looks like you've blocked yourself out of a wardrobe

Is it really that bad storing boards horizontally?

Horizontal is fine if they're not sat directly on top of eachother, and they don't have PCB feet attached, and they're only single layer, and they don't have components on the underside.

So... yeah, just store them vertically and don't let them lean.

For the serious arcade PCB hobbyist, several dedicated professionally assembled or DIY cabinetry with closing doors for them precious PCBs is the route to go. Sure, it might be expensive (but think of it -- it's just a one-time purchase if you will).

Nice collection of PCBs there, system11. I haven't kept track of how many PCBs I've got in my personal stash...it'd, cetainly, take some time to see what I've got and inventory it properly. As the ol' saying goes, once you've gotten bit by the arcade PCB "bug", there's no turning back.

Impressive! I'm sure thats just a temporary pile, but be sure to stack them on their sides (like records) to avoid boards flexing in the middle, especially if they still have PCB legs on them.

What's cool about that Taito G-Card of Psyvariar Revision is that, it saves a single Psy-R superplay (that's viewable upon inserting a credit) + all high score & high score initials for posterity via the G-Card itself. How cool is that? It made it's proper debut in the Japanese game centers back in September of 2000, indeed, to complement it's earlier game center debut of Success's G-Card release of Psyvariar Medium Unit back in March of 2000.

Unfortunately, the U.S. based Taito of America arcade subsidy of parent company, Taito of Japan, closed up shop (before the proper debut of the Taito G-Net was unveiled/rolled out) so thus that particular arcade hardware wasn't available for proper distribution Stateside during that point in time. So American arcade shmuppers weren't able to play either Psy-MU nor Psy-R at the local arcades anyways.

Was hoping that an in-depth article with some full color pics on Psy-MU or Psy-R would be written in the "Shooting Alley" section of the hallowed GameFan magazine but that never happened either. Neither GamePro nor EGM covered arcade shmups like GF did back in 2000.

I rarely buy PCBs anymore, because they've gotten so pricey, but I'd been looking for this one for ages, so I decided to splurge.

Yes I did actually. 8000yen + domestic shipping was a sweet deal compared to what the shops charge, USA version but the FDD was still NOS (I've already made backups to play with). I'm running it on my cab actually (18'' dual-sync). I have an X68k and 3 Towns monitors, all are tri-syncs. They are great for what they do, but nothing beats a pure duel-sync for arcade use imo.
