Finally I must admit I'm disappointed with the result with my pal N64. The best I can have is blurry picture on 720 with scaler set to video, but it's far from the soft and sharp aspect I have on CRT. It works great with my neo geo (scart) and nes. So if you got some advices for the N64 setup, I'd be happy to try them!

Thanks for the help you may provide for my snes and saturn!
I'm having this same issue here and my setup is Saturn > scart > scart to JP 21 pin adapter > mini. I have ordered the 8pin adapter from retrogamingcables, would that solve this problem? Otherwise I have no idea where to find such cable that would work properly. Any pointer please?

I think this was eventually a GND issue and not a sync-related one, especially since your Saturn (if it's NTSC) can output clean sync on it's own, when used with the right cable. Grounding on the other hand is bad on the those Saturn cables. I would open the Scart header and check that GND is connected to all relevant pins (Video ground, audio ground, outer shielding, possibly Pin 18 and the RGB grounds as well).

Lower the sync level setting from the default value of 9 to 6 or 7.

Back on the subject of bringing down jamma rgbs levels to consumer level electronics (like framemeister), I was considering have it go from jamma -> 220uf cap-> 220ohm resistor-> 1kohm pot -> framemeister.

Does that look correct? Or should I switch around the cap and the resistor?

For the sync would it just be jamma -> 220uf cap-> 220ohm resistor -> framemeister

You neither need the cap (but you can use it), nor do you need two resistors in a row.

Either use JAMMA > VARIABLE RESISTOR > CAPACITOR > MINI or just JAMMA > VARIABLE RESISTOR > MINI.

I just purchased a Extron 109xi and a Sync Strike.

What I need now is a cable that connects from the Extron's BNC output to my Mini's SCART input (BNC --> SCART).

Would this cable work? http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/male ... cable.html

I presume yes, but its description implies that it just works one way (SCART --> BNC).

Can anyone put light on that matter?

Yes, Scart is one-way. You can buy the cable, re-solder the sync pin (from 19 to 20) and the audio connects, then you'd be fine.

But let me ask: what's the point of adding an Extron interface before the Mini ?? Video processors with digital processing (like the Mini) are immune to the 480i > 240p sync trick (which works fine on CRTs).

Sound quite hassle-free. Nice.

I wanted to use the Extron to make the Mini compatible to my PS2's progressive RGB output. Did I get anything wrong?

Oh, ok - yes, that should work fine. Definitely let us know how it goes, especially if 240p and 480i are passing without any problems.

My XRGB-mini turned up today, great service from Yakumo over at ASSEMblergames Forum, from Japan to UK in a week and probably would of been with me in 5 days if it wasnt for the weekend!!

At the moment im using my MD2 with a raw sync scart cable from retro_console_accessories on ebay and the retro gaming cables mini adapter lead. And have notice some interference on blues towards the top of the screen, it looks like thick lines going across the screen and jittering up and down. I have take this vid but its a bit hard to make out...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv1qdnbq ... e=youtu.be

any ideas??

Ok ill give that a go, what is the cause of this then?

Any other options i should select for the megadrive, i have

720p
4:3
Anime
scanlines
sharpness at 0

everything else is at default settings. I remember seeing a Youtube video and the user was able to get the edges of the display to darken slightly with one of the options, any ideas what that setting was?

Anime wouldn't be my choice. Picture is better. For little more sharpness adjust H_SCALER down to 5. The darkened edges can be enabled by using "retro mode".

Quick question to anyone who knows: What kind of RGB cable works best with Mini and RGB NES with AV out? I'm planning on using one of those SNES RGB cables that e.g. retro console accessories sell, but I actually have no idea if the resistors/whatever there's inside them work with NES so what I'm asking is, does it need to be somehow customized? Thanks again for helping a n00b, I'm learning slowly! ;)

I was draw to Anime as is boosts the colour, can this extra colour be added any other way with the mini?

you like the oversaturation ? In this case I would raise the saturation on your TV (and this particular HDMI input) instead. Most TVs have much more "reserves" when it comes to color saturation.

@Konsolkongen - You have the Extron RGB interface set up with your mini? Can you tell me, if you use the DDSP trick to change 480i into 240p, does that work with the Mini too? Specifically, will it stop the picture disappearing for several seconds while the mini switches picture processing modes on games that change between interlace and progressive during gameplay?

no, that doesn't work with any video processor.

All RGB NES systems are custom-made, so this will be completely dependent on the choice of connector by the modder. However, I have never seen the RGB NES with a Nintendo "multi-out" connector like the SNES/N64/GC, so an SNES cable would be absolutely wrong.

Whatever connector the modder used, however, it shouldn't need any capacitors or resistors. All that stuff would be done internally in the NES.

Like Fudoh say it doesn't convert 480i to 240p. This is alright since I pass EVERYTHING I own though it. It makes no difference in the picture's disappearance. You'll need to enable DDSP (no vertical shifting) though, otherwise you get a slight shaking in the image and a PGM won't work without it.

The benefits of using the Extron for me is:

*I have a modified DC VGA box which can output RGB as well, and using the Extron I can combine H and V into C.sync so I can get normal 240p/480i without swapping cables.
*I use RGB for my PS2 and the Extron can convert the PS2's RGsB signal when playing 480p games into VGA which looks slightly better than component.
*It will also enable VGA from a modified GameCube component cable.

I suspected that was the case, oh well. There seems to be quite a few PS1 games that like to change between 480i and 240p on the fly.

It's very annoying. On my Samsung the blackouts are also a bit longer than the Panasonic I had before. The hotswap setting on the mini doesn't seem to make a difference for me.

Is this the "hotplug" setting you are talking about? Because i never knew what that was about. Like in Sillent Hill for PS1 when you switch between the 2D map and the 3D world, the screen goes black for several seconds. This setting is supposed to reduce that?

Yes that's the one :D

As far as I understand it should help reduce blackouts. But it makes no difference on eiher Panasonic or Samsung plasmas as far as I can tell.
