Special Course
DEL - 5,643,100 - Stage 15 Discharge - Flying Baron (A) / Strawman (C) / Bornam (B)

I didn't encounter the two ninjas and Blk Ht MkII, hence the low score.

I'm alternating between credits of Advance with a team and Special.

Can EIHoppe, Twiddle or any other player who is able to mess with MAME and the rank counter do me one huge favour? I need you to experiment with an idea for me:

- Boot the game up and make a note of the starting rank
- Now, quickly reel off five credits, by suiciding all lives in stage one, running the countdown timer out, then starting another credit and repeating.
- Now, make a note of what the current rank count is after wasting five credits quickly.

Why am I asking this? Well, from Twiddle's helpful information on the rank counter in the Batrider GD thread, it is estimated that you lose 6mil off the rank counter for every quick credit wasted. I'm curious as to how many credits are needed to be used in this manner to quickly reset the rank counter to its lowest level. ^_-

(Think of it as a "quick rank reset" technique. I need a kind soul to test it out to see if it works. ^_-)

@DEL:
I'm still playing this whenever I can squeeze in a run or two. Normal Course runs are pretty inconsistent though - sometimes I ALL the run with over 7.5mil but miss two or three bosses; sometimes I don't ALL but trigger every boss at the right times, end the run at the blue hovertank in Highway or at Tsumujimaru, but have over 7mil in the bank; sometimes I don't even make it that far. Its getting pretty frustrating as I need a near-perfect play to achieve my target score. -_-;;

Latest video-recorded junk score - 7.70mil ALL, no Black Heart, no Hayatemaru, only Blunt at the end. Switched out Silver Sword for Grasshopper to see if the piercing Shot and good ranged bomb can help with getting rid of Bashinet2. It did quite well in fact, as I managed to destroy all 20 of those little turrets that cover Blunt's arms for an extra 200k.

Gonna keep plugging away at this until I crack it.

Icarus - I stopped playing Normal Course (for now), as I'm aware that I lack knowledge on it. I'll have to see a replay to fill in the gaps.

My Advance team runs are going ok though, so I should crack that one soon.
I'm enjoying Special Course on the whole, apart from the odd tantrum after dying 60pts away from an extend :evil: .

The rapid suicide upon bootup method would indeed be useful!

You should count yourself lucky you get Extends added to stock automatically. I often have to wait for ages before a boss will spawn drones to get an Extend from, and that can often be two, three, even four bosses away. ^_-
That's one of the things I like about the JPN versions, is that I can keep my current ship for a while before suiciding to get an Extend. KOR revision's auto-Extends makes a small mess of my team strategy.

Normal
5,699,470 - DMC - ALL - Maria (C) / Gain (B) / Flying Baron (A)

I just read the strategy section, but didn't understand the criterion for accessing all of the three bosses in the end of highway stage. Anyone here who can be a bit more explicit and describe it so even I understand? :roll:

collect at least one special option power up and at least one special shot power up.
how to get them:
special option power up: miss 3 option items in a row then get the fourth
special shot power up: miss 3 small shot items in a row then get the fourth OR miss 3 big shot items in a row then get the fourth
youre not allowed to die during triggering the special power ups or the item counter will reset again.after youve obtained the special power up you can die of course and still trigger the boss.

If you want to fight all three Rivals, you also need to make sure you have a surviving Batrider member in your team. Have fun juggling your team for that. ^_-

PS: Name of Garegga ship used, DMC? ("B.Wayne" is a bit ambiguous.)

Did some crunching on this, and got some interesting results (for normal course, I'll crunch up some Advance numbers later...):
For one, each additional game, regardless of credits within the machine when played or started, or continues (I'm going to do some research on my next run for data (on advance) on whether progress affects this number or causes the initial rank to decrease/get worse), seems to have knocked off 63486 from (added to?) the starting rank (which, also appears to double as the minimum (ceiling?) rank value as well.)

As for the minimum-minimum rank, it takes a total of 14 playthroughs before you hit the rank ceiling of 13078506, up from the boot-up initial rank at 12189702.

If you like, I can also do some (slightly more intrinsic, I'd admit) research on what "attract" time does to the initial rank as far as numbers are concerned as well, though I'd make a decent-sized wager the dropping 14 credits out is probably still faster. Well, maybe not decent-sized (I'm on a bit of a budget), but you get the idea.

At any rate, that'll have to wait for either tommorow if I have time or after the holidays (26th-ish). I'm tired and heading to bed.

Today's scores;

Normal Course
Image
Normal Course
DEL - 7,494,440 - 6-ALL - Strawman (C), Flying Baron (A), Carpet (B)

Lost my medal chain before the final stage, so I guess 8mil would have occured :? .

Special Course
Image
Special Course
DEL - 5,984,250 - ST15 Discharge - Strawman (C) / Bornam (B) / Flying Baron (A)

The usual death just before the extend :lol: :evil: .
I died just before destroying the first form of Discharge, so I guess another mil should have been tagged on.
I ALLed Special Course again the other day, but with a low 5.2mil ST11 ALL, due to 2 back-to-back deaths on Bashinet 2, thereby losing out on 7 bosses.

Going back to Advanced Course Strawman Only runs for a little change of pace from endless Normal and Special teamplay.

ADVANCED COURSE
B,486,400 - Icarus - Stage 7 - Strawman (A)

Stage Order: Sky High, Airport, Sewer

Image Image

Perfect Medalling all the way through the game, only to fumble the first form with all lives in stock. Green homing lasers and beamswords do not make a user-friendly attack combination. >_<;;

12mil score in sight. Replay available.

Yea, I think I have 7mil in me, if just the final stage would progress a little bit smoother.

One thing that I'm curios about, and pardon me if it's already mentioned, is what determines how many full bomber items a defeated boss releases . My first thought was that it was related to how many full bombs you used against the boss, but now it seems more likely it's random instead. Anyone knows more about this?

Bosses don't drop full Bomb items...?

EDIT: The two Ninjas do, but its more random than anything else. I've had four pop out of Hayatemaru in one run, then zero on another, so don't rely on them to refill Bomb stock.

Yeah I'm feeling the Pain :? . Advance Course keeps giving me Rank Hell due to my natural instincts to have spare lives in stock upon entering Stage 6/7.

Anyway, here's my new Special Course failure;
Image
^Nice to see a chunky STAGE 17 :wink: after my name.

Special Course
DEL - 6,978,500 - ST17 Discharge - Flying Baron (A) / Miyamoto (C) / Birthday (C)

^A Birthday inclusion in my team for my forthcoming Birthday on Jan 9th :wink: .

Unfortunately, Birthday (C) let me down at the very beginning of Last Boss Discharge. Its options weren't taking out the gun emplacements :evil: .

More failures;

Advance Course
DEL - 9,311,640 - ST7 - Strawman (A)

Died milliseconds from the All - yet again the thruster from the final form's rockets clipped me.
I'd being playing team Advance runs for a while, & switched to a Strawman A run once my blood had boiled for the umpteenth time :evil: .

With Strawman, my usual score distribution (at stage end):
st1 - 1.1 to 1.25mil
st2 (Sky High) - 1.7 to 1.9mil
st3 (Airport) - 3.0 to 3.5mil
st4 (Sewer) - 4.5 to 4.8mil
st5 (Highway) - 5.6 to 6.2mil
st6 (Z.City) - 8.5 to 9.5mil
st7 (Building) - 11 to 13mil

Teamplay changes the score distribution by quite a lot of points. Ideally you should be hitting around 7mil after clearing the Highway in Advanced with a team, since there are some factors that make pointsqueezing a little harder. With Black Heart2, Grubby, Bashi-R and Glow Squid in one run, you should get to the final stage with around 12-13mil estimated with a team.

Rank in Advanced seems to climb maybe 40-60% faster than it does in Normal, though.

Plasmo wrote:actually i was talking about special course :P or is that too straightforward?have you found out any new boss milking techniques?
one first humble attempt:
The only problem with the way I play Special is that my best scoring techniques are dependent on a particular boss order (Sewer, Sky High, Airport). Any other order and the scoring is marginally lower than usual. There is no way to influence the boss order before starting, unfortunately.

EDIT: Special Course score distribution with current team setup of Mahou/Garegga/Mahou (listing preferred boss order):

st1 (Conflict) - 450k
st2 (Deviate) - 1.1mil
st3 (Black Heart) - 1.45mil
st4 (Boredom) - 1.75mil
st5 (Bashinet) - 2.1mil
st6 (Bazzcok) - 2.7mil
st7 (Gob-Robo) - 3mil
st8 (Bashinet2) - 3.5 to 4mil (varies with attack patterns)
st9 (Tsumuji) - 4.0 to 4.3mil
st10 (Hayate) - 4.2 to 4.4mil
st11 - 4.5 to 4.8mil
st12 (Black Heart2) - 5.4 to 6mil (varies with current ship, I score best with Bornnam)
st13 (Grubby) - 6.3 to 6.6mil
st14 (Bashi-R) - 6.5 to 6.8mil
st15 (Glow Squid) - 7.0 to 7.3mil
st16 (Discharge) - 8.0 to 8.5mil

And yes, been playing around with some new techniques. Add about 750k for the two Rivals not fought (no Batrider member in my team composition) and maybe a few 100k for score variance, and the top-end ALL18 is clearing 9mil by a decent amount.

Haven't put in one decent run lately, too busy studying remixing techniques. ^_-

Special Course is a good barometer of how well you are playing. ie. You've got to have all 3 lives remaining upon entering every stage, otherwise the game will 'skip' bosses.
In terms of Special Course scoring, I would have scraped an 8mil ALL on my ST17 run, as I died on the Discharge approach due to ineffective Birthday option firepower.
I guess Glow Squid wasn't triggered as ST17, due to me limping my way past Bashiner R on my last life :? .

Icarus wrote;

Yep, must be something like that :? .
Although Special Course Discharge encounters are supposed to be at Advance Course difficulty, I find that its never as ranked-up as on an Advance run! - The last time I reached Discharge on Advance, the first form of Discharge was ranked up beyond belief :shock: . Somehow I dodged it anyway. Then the second form with the rotating lasers did its usual 'Advance' trick of lasering after destruction, so I had to waste a bomb there :? . This was on a Strawman only run --> Now imagine what the rank would be like on a team run....
An Advance team run is of course a fair bit longer, so the game has longer to rank-up. Plus you're gonna have triggered some team Special Power Ups along the way, which will have made it even worse.
