When there are a lot of bullets on the screen.

It seems that the more I play this, the less I care for the scoring system.

And the problem w/ that is?

Standards don't go away b/c a genre leaves the mainstream.

The problem is this is a genre with very little in the way of OMG AMAZING visuals. There are some high water marks (Ikaruga) but let's get real here... nobody here plays shmups for the graphics.

Personally, I like the graphics in Exelica. Reason being, the background's aren't so damn distracting like some other shmups (Takumi, I'm looking at you).

So far I'm enjoying THE quite a bit. There's not so much ultra-twitch going on, which suits my neanderthalian reflexes quite well.

That's right-- the standards improve and people start caring about gameplay and not graphics

maaaalcolm....maaaalcolm! Eat yer oatmeal, boy! And take yer dye-uh-beetus meds! I got a nice big needle for ya!

On-topic, if a game's got ugly graphics there's no good reason not to at least note it, regardless of genre, but beyond that if the looks don't impact the gameplay then I'm just about always willing to look past them.

There's no reason to not care/complain about both. There are many things that make up a game (I will bitch about the lame music until I quit playing them); not just gameplay, and not just graphics...really bad ones in this case.

EDIT: Wilford stays.

You should switch to Robert Loggia. Make the jump from oatmeal to OJ.

This is an awesome game.

There is lots of cool strategy slinging ships across the screen for maximum gold stuff.

l love the graphics, the backgrounds aren't distracting and the enemy ships and bullets are easy to see.

It's one of my favorites.

I finally got my copy of the game. The bloody hobo came while I was sleeping, so I didn't get to punish him for spending too much time passed out in gutters from intoxication an d not enough tiime passed out in gutters from the exhaustion of running my game to my doorstep >_<

I only got to play it once before heading to work, but I'm liking the game a lot.

Edit: Got to play the game for a couple hours. Only made it to chapter 4 a couple times, and only once made it very deep into "the box part." Very VERY awesome game. I'm liking it a lot more than both Radirgy and Under Defeat. Though I wish I knew how to score better on stage 3, because the boss only has one lifebar/pattern and it's kind of anti-climatic. I can fightin Faintear on stage 1, get at least 3-4 patterns out of the second boss, but the third? Nothin', he just dies.

Are there just 2 playable characters? because I see 3 lovely ladies in the manual.

Overall I'm really enjoying this game, as it's getting me away from my 360 for once.

The third lady is that chick you meet after the stage 1 boss.

Right, this is really pissing me off. I cannot get to the second boss on the first stage. What golden cheese score do you need? I normally average around 700,000.00 for the air section in the beginning with about 400 cheeses. By the time I get to the boss I normally have around 1,500 cheeses. I followed the earlier advice and destroyed the bosses when there's a load of stuff on screen but that doesn't give you a great deal.

Help!

Please :)

I don't even know how to keep track of how many "cheeses" I have. But I swear to you that if you kill the first boss with 10M+ points, AND without having died at all during the stage, then Faintear will pop out. I can get her to appear pretty consistantly now ^_^ Just gotta figure out how to make the third boss have more than one lifebar -_^
