Jokes aside, Wyrmnus is probably in the exact position many of us might have been some time in our lives.
And that's one of the paramount beauty of shmups: winning a battle that seems to be impossible. Before my eyes were opened it never crossed my mind that I would one day beat shit like Giga Wing, Mars Matrix or Mushi maniac. I thought it was impossible. And then I got hooked and spent more time with the games.... Fact is we do get better day after day if we dedicate ourselves. And then when it happens OH BOY OH BOY HOLY SHIT HOLY FUCKING SHIT I DID IT it's one of the most exhilarating feelings you can ever get from a video game.

That's what I did IIRC. Getting there with lives in stock makes it easy because you have what 3, 4 bombs in stock?

Can't stand Touhou. I find the gameplay bland, the music obnoxious, and I hate lolis. Feel odd playing a game where the focus is entirely on underaged girls, but that's just me. Which is why I was a little annoyed at the direction DoDonPachi's art style took. It got worse in SDOJ. Still loved all the games, I just mute the voices in SDOJ and DFK. Helps a bit.

Thought Gaiaseed was awful. And I loved Supernova.

I'm playing rhythm games more than STGs these days.
My Xbox pad AKS score is 1.5x higher than my arcade stick score.
My Ketsui performance is the exact same for both keyboard and arcade stick.
I haven't played Donpaccin because it seems you can't move vertically. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I felt Touhou was bland once in the gameplay department...but than I opened my eyes to it and think it's even more vibrant and enjoyable than any Cave game (this statement would have been outright blasphemous to me a few years ago).

In particular I love all the random dodging. Wish Cave bosses weren't so static.

Also I wouldn't call Touhou "about under-age girls" at all. It's basically just a cutesie chibby art style with nothing remotely sexual about it whatsoever, and the only ones who make it "loli" are certain fan artists. Do you have a problem with Pocky and Rocky on the Super Nintendo? Because that's basically the same thing.

Tbh, I'm not sure my xbox360 purchase would have been worth it to me if Cave was the only thing on it. Qute Corps games are really the reason I love my 360. Though DDP SOJ and Esp Galuda II are really fun too.

I know what you mean - Touhou tends to have a lot more pseudorandom sprays that you just have to learn to reach to, there's much less "know the pattern" attacks. For me, the older the game, the more I'm a fan. The PC98 ones have the most charm for me, particularly Mystic Square. That extra stage fight is especially fun to clear. I don't particularly care for magical girl characters generally, and I love the game.

Fuck ESPGALUDA. On MAME anyway. I could save state as much as I want. That final Boss' Final pattern is fucking impossible. I'd have to literately slow down time in order to weave in between that shit AND dodge the oncoming bullets from above just to clear that shit.

Probably the most overrated boss attack in Cave history. It's a bit nasty if you don't know about the bomb recovering health, but it's really not that scary when you realize that the large orbs coming from the sides of the screen have the same hitbox size as the smaller bullets the boss fires. They look like big bullets, but it's safe to move through them as long as you don't touch their centers. You just gotta be confident about moving in between 'em. The second-to-last attack is way, way tougher to nomiss nobomb, but because you can bomb/kakusei it for large damage, it doesn't get nearly as much of a bad rap when it comes to difficulty.

I have never 1CC'd DonPachi. I've done it for DoDonPachi's 1st loop (fluke) and DDP4's first loop (hyper spam, no bombs or lives left), but never DonPachi.

I can't read the name of that game everybody likes as anything but Kyouiku Tiger. And I don't actually want to learn the proper name because "Education Tiger" amuses me to no end.
I still have strong prejudices against games that have no bombs, either because they feature an alternative weapon system or no such thing at all.
Despite everybody I know recommending Axelay I couldn't ever get around the perspective and limited ammo.
Despite the above I still like Einhänder a lot.
The DDP art style(esp. enemy designs) feels rather bland and even unpleasant at times.
I sometimes feel guilty for not "getting" Yagawa games.
I can't really play shmups for hours and hours as some members imply they do.

As much as I tried, I really think Psykio (or Psikyo ? - whatever) is over rated and can't stand the narrow shoots they gave us, the speed orange bullets and the even worst scoring/chain system when items are flashing to grab them.

Dragon Blaze and Gunbird 2 looks good thou, but that's pretty much it for me.

Here goes, this is my confession. It is a shmup confession, but it also applies to other games I play too.

I feel upset when I finish a game. Especially if I like it a lot. So I have a habit of reaching the final boss. And then never playing the game again. That way the game never ends. It becomes immortal!

The second-to-last attack is way, way tougher to nomiss nobomb, but because you can bomb/kakusei it for large damage, it doesn't get nearly as much of a bad rap when it comes to difficulty.

What some people seem to miss is that you can use kakusei during the final form. You won't do damage, but you can slow the bullets long enough to move into a safer space for a while, and you can do that multiple times on a default gem stock after dying. That + essentially four bombs per life and I stopped dying more than once on that form. I have the most trouble with the third-to-last attack (the straight up/down bullets).

I always enjoy the first few runs of a new game when achievements are being given out like condoms at a sex party. I always credit feed to the end at least once in order to a) grab as many up-front achievements as I can, and b) determine how little chance I actually have of eventually clearing the game.
