I really want some Bayonetta 2. Mario Kart 8 looks great.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Now here's an interesting development: after Sony declares the PS4 region-free and MS decides to follow suit with the XB1, people are trying to get Nintendo to do the same with the already-released Wii U (and the 3DS too). I doubt it'll happen, but it is kind of interesting to see Nintendo so suddenly playing the odd man out here.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
If someone lobbied for region free before the launch of a Nintendo console, it might actually work. Right now it feels more like people just trying to socialize over nothing and they'll forget all this by the time Nintendo launches a new system.
I know it's not nice to complain about someone campaigning for a cause you care about, but it's just a waste of time at this point.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
On the upside, the reason Nintendo gets away with it is that they provide such a unique experience (software, hardware and all), that they don't really need to compete in the DRM Olympics. For me, the 360 was largely a cheap(er) plug-n-play gaming PC (and I love it anyway). But you really can't say the same of a Nintendo console.

I don't particularly care that the WiiU is region locked, what Nintendo do need a massive kick in the cock for is region locking the 3DS.

Oh man such a silly policy. I still wondering why in hell have they blocked the 3DS, first handheld in history to be region locked. I have to pray for some games to be released in Europe.BulletMagnet wrote:Now here's an interesting development: after Sony declares the PS4 region-free and MS decides to follow suit with the XB1, people are trying to get Nintendo to do the same with the already-released Wii U (and the 3DS too). Come on Ninty give us a real firmware that unlocks it instead of your insistence in blocking flash carts.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Back when the 3DS was released, the JPY:USD ratio was a lot different. It honestly would have been a bit crazy for them to NOT do it at that time.

MK8 (on YouTube at least) looks like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed made Nintendo FINALLY realise what year we have. MK Wii looked as if most arcade racers of the last decade or so not just eluded Nintendo platforms, but were unheard of on Japanese market.

If you want to get technical I believe that designation goes to the DSi (though somebody out there is probably aware of some obscure system I've never heard of which was locked before that).Phellan Wolf wrote:I still wondering why in hell have they blocked the 3DS, first handheld in history to be region locked.

Apparently Bayonetta 2 supports Classic Controllers Pro. The kind of game CCP has been begging for since birth. 2D Metroid*) should follow (with optional semi-auto controls for newcomers).

The Turbo Express shared the same lock as the TG-16. Then again, most of the interesting games were on CD.Phellan Wolf wrote:I still wondering why in hell have they blocked the 3DS, first handheld in history to be region locked.

I keep reminding folks of that too. Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Wii U first impressions:
Been toying around with the Wii U I got yesterday, and am seriously pleased with the hardware's little features. First and foremost is remote play (I only have the two Marios at the moment). I've had a long-standing boner for handheld gaming for some time now, and being able to stream Wii U games, w/o any TV involvement, is pretty nifty. It's like a handheld X360 that plays Mario games over a short distance.
Had trouble sleeping last night, so I just played NSMBU on the gamepad in bed, all chill-like, and that did the trick. The gamepad screen has pretty damn good resolution, objectively, and compared to the alternatives, although I haven't yet grasped a Vita.
Also really like that you can use the gamepad as a TV remote - this is the feature that got my non-gaming family all googly eyed. Yeah the tech is simple and old, but kudos to Ninty for incorporating it.
Looking forward to playing Wii/WW/VC games on the new setup (once the servers get going.. bleh), although I wish you could remote play WiiWare on the gamepad w/o any other peripherals. As it stands, you still need a wiimote to play anything from your Wii, even on gamepad display. So my dream of a handheld Megaman 9/10 is a dream deferred, at least for now.
And for those who were wondering, the gamepad is super light, ergonomic and comfy, by the way.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
In case anyone's interested, the system apparently has a shmup now, at least in Japan, though despite a nearly-20-dollar price tag it looks more like a smartphone product (apparently you control movement on the touchscreen and can't move vertically, unless the player in the video is missing something).

20 dollars for that piece of crap? I hope this game inspires other people to strive to create something better than this... thing.
Anyway, I (by which I mean my dad) shipped the broken Wii U back and am probably going to get a refund. I now have a different Wii U that actually works, and came packaged with Legend of Zelda: Windwaker.

We now have the total Japanese sales of 2013 (until December 29th to be precise) and in an amazing turn of events, Wii U actually managed to outsell PS3 thanks to a nice push at the last strech.

I can't believe 3DS has sold 35 million units. No idea it was that many. I'm not even sure that's deserved.

Not sure about that. Did it really sell that well? We would have seen more RE games from Capcom otherwise - including ports.

Indeed. I'd still say that the awesome outweights the flaws though. I absolutely fell in love with the game.Pretas wrote:Can't it be both?evil_ash_xero wrote:So, you Wii U owners...is Wonderful 101 flawed, or awesome? Seems to have some mixed reviews.

I think Animal Crossing is still pretty big here.
