Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
Yep, I made that! I wasn't sure if I was done, but my Firefox was in dire need of a restart, so I saved what I had done. Now help me improve it!
(also, please tell me I'm not the only one who hears "Throwing up!" when you pick up a powerup)
Edit: Oh wow, I cleared Death Label, with Spirit & Saber - I had just realized you could change form, and the fire form absolutely crushes bosses. That plus the autobomb, and what seemed to be funky invincibility periods from those, carried me to victory. Yay!

My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself
<Despatche> you've been a thorn in the shmups community since the beginning, you're largely responsible for the horrible face of modern speedrunning

Yes, Hypering at Lv1 for Spirit&Saber will give you an insanely powerful chargeshot which is why it's my favourite ship out of the GwangeDash roster.KennyMan666 wrote:Yep, I made that! Also, I had no idea that the ESPStream was from Shikigami no Shiro, I guess I need to expand my horizon since apparently there's Wii versions of at least one of the SNS games available that I could get if I tried.

Err, was more about his "views" on piracy afaik: he was using the same nickname on torrent sites and putting up stuff like fast striker DC and a bunch of doujin shmups.. the emulation talk was probably just what brought the moderators attention to him again.Skykid wrote:^I still can't believe mjclark got banned for his views on emulation. Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
I know, but his views on piracy are still his views and no-one else's. He's entitled to them. And banning someone for their actions several years in the past is a little extreme. mjclark was never an asshole to anyone here, unlike Paradigm, who after reaching the height of his distastefulness only got a paltry 2 week suspension.Zaarock wrote:Err, was more about his "views" on piracy afaik: he was using the same nickname on torrent sites and putting up stuff like fast striker DC and a bunch of doujin shmups.. the emulation talk was probably just what brought the moderators attention to him again.Skykid wrote:^I still can't believe mjclark got banned for his views on emulation. Views held are one thing; actions taken are another. Also, for whatever it's worth, the shenanigans that he got hammered for were quite recent.Skykid wrote:I know, but his views on piracy are still his views and no-one else's. He's entitled to them. Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
That wasn't made clear, it was mainly said that you guys didn't like his blatant attitude about piracy and you also cited that he had put up those torrents.
RIP in peaces mjclark and Estebang
Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
I think we're fine so long as the official rules are modified to say that misconduct on other sites, linked or mentioned by the offender on shmups forum or no, is grounds for a permaban, and that this rule is retroactive and has no statute of limitations.

Like I said at the time, it was the mod's call, but I don't think the mods spend enough time actually observing general behaviour on the forum. mjclark's views may have warranted a warning if deemed corrosive to the community, but he was a generally affable poster. I do think system11's arrival of Fast Striker on AES, the sudden knowledge of mj's torrenting it several years prior as highlighted by NG:dev in a different thread, and the timing of his pro-piracy statements was a rather unfortunate chain of events - and not one he could do much to avoid. The hammer was a little strong imo.

Couldn'tve put it better myself, mind you I don't think mjclark's statements were that corrosive to begin with. It's his personal view, whether anyone agrees with him is up to them (and for the record I agree with most of the points he's made). It's not like he's starting another Spanish Crusade or Christian Revolution in terms of support.Skykid wrote:Good summary.Moniker wrote:I think we're fine so long as the official rules are modified to say that misconduct on other sites, linked or mentioned by the offender on shmups forum or no, is grounds for a permaban, and that this rule is retroactive and has no statute of limitations.

Furthermore, one dev saying shit about him just because he actually has a name to point a finger at doesn't exactly make it a strong source of evidence in regards to the dev's lack of profit. I would've at least liked to see some hard figures instead of observations of sales prior to and after mjclark's redistribution of the ISO to show his oh-so-evil deed actually had any significance. Would certainly have helped make the obvious kneejerk reaction appearance by system11 seem a little more legit when he quoted the post I'm referring to.
Also, I wouldn't call 2010 that recent, but I digress.
Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
system11 was the mole. mjclark found out too much and system11 had to get rid of him to cover himself. I don't think it's even going too far to say that system11 created an "mjclark" profile and uploaded that torrent so he'd have a "plausible" excuse. Think about it.
Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
It wasn't about his general behaviour. He was a very decent contributor in many ways (although his avatar caused upset), but when devs see this forum as a place that is pro-piracy of their games, we have to act (and we did so with much discussion and thought). We are still in touch with mjclark and (while I owe him a reply!) I still talk to the guy on Twitter. He still has my ear. But, good general behaviour doesn't mean you can get away with anything.Skykid wrote:I don't think the mods spend enough time actually observing general behaviour on the forum.

Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
Yeah, I think it's generally understood that while shmuppers try to support the companies that make the games, a lot of games that are played end up being emulated. But when a regular poster is actively torrenting a relatively new game (under the same account name no less) it doesn't make the forum look good. It's clear the forum wants to have a good reputation with devs (who wouldn't want that?) and as far as I'm aware there wasn't any question of someone impersonating mjclark just to get him banned or something, it was just an issue of keeping up a good image of supporting new game development, which I agree with.
I have my doubts about how much such a thing would affect sales that drastically, especially for a niche game (I imagine most people who didn't buy it wouldn't have done so regardless of whether a torrent was available or not), but it's still bad press for the forum to have someone on it handing out copies of relatively new games.

I think you'll find chaps, the bone of contention isn't with his actions, but the timing of his permaban based on when said actions occurred.BareknuckleRoo wrote:it was just an issue of keeping up a good image of supporting new game development, which I agree with.
I know the mods didn't admit to seeing anything to do with his FS torrenting some years ago, but that's more their fault than his. It's also untrue, since Ghegs stepped in and split the thread and allowed it to continue on its course without even dropping a warning, before eventually locking it when it reached its fifth page.
Owing to the fact he continued to post unmolested for years thereafter, it seems more fair to dish out a retroactive warning than just give him an out of the blue axe.
Anyway, as they'd say in Cyber-Lip, he's a goner! But I wish the chap all the best.

You should be careful not to give the mods any Cyber-Lip. If you do, you risk a Cyber Fat-Lip.
Re: (PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)
Perhaps system11 has just been evilly reprogrammed?

You're suggesting that wasn't actually MJ in the secret surveilance footage?hzt wrote:system11 was the mole. mjclark found out too much and system11 had to get rid of him to cover himself. Fair enough. Us mods should never be closed minded to criticism, so I'll discuss this with the other mods.Skykid wrote:the timing of his permaban based on when said actions occurred.

Gwangedash can still be found on Fraxy HQ, in the video games section.
Both 1.0 and 0.99 versions.
I can't say more.
