NeoGeo/Dreamcast/iPhone Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
Good to hear about the porting. Ke2i was a lame (read: totally sweet) joke: Vert military shooter = Ketsui, second one could be "cleverly" spelled Ke2i, where 2 = english = [tu] = japanese = [tsu]RHE wrote:It should make porting easier and keeps production cost lower then MVS since carts are more expensive to produce for us. I'd like to add that whatever happens, the neogeo is still an option for us. No worries neogeo fanboys.![]()
What does Ke2i mean?

Why don't you just use DC hardware then? SH4 CPU, The best video output of any console pre HD generation. Is the Ram size a problem?
Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
We are talkin about arcade hardware here. For home ports DC is fine. Could need a lot of more RAM though...Kron wrote:Why don't you just use DC hardware then? SH4 CPU, The best video output of any console pre HD generation. Is the Ram size a problem?

If you are considering making games that still retain the look and styling of the 16 bit era, why not just develop for ARM processors? They are super economical, a lot of work can be done on one chip, they work very well in embedded environments and can provide you with a lot of input and output options for a price that would most likely be cheaper than the cost of the MVS cart.THE wrote:We are talkin about arcade hardware here. I have worked with the ARM/XScale architecture both CPU and MCU now for 7 years or something. It's my second favorite after the 68000. If we create our own hardware it will be 90% likely ARM based. Designing a PCB with CPU/RAM/ROM is no big deal, we already got that. The main work are the custom GPU and SPU. The GPU will be FPGA based and needs to be designed in Verilog or VHDL, currently that's the only tricky part...duckzero wrote: If you are considering making games that still retain the look and styling of the 16 bit era, why not just develop for ARM processors? True. I wish I had some experience in that. I would love to assist you with the design. I'm excited to see the design of the PCB after it's done.THE wrote: I have worked with the ARM/XScale architecture both CPU and MCU now for 7 years or something. Pandora is Arm based and a lot of German members on the team. No jamma though...
custom board would be sweet. Just hope to we'll keep getting DC ports.
Code: Select all
# ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU running Linux
# 430-MHz TMS320C64x+™ DSP Core
# PowerVR SGX OpenGL 2.0 ES compliant 3D hardware
custom board would be sweet. Just hope to we'll keep getting DC ports.

Is you next game going to be bullet hell or old school ? I really like last hope and I hope you would continue in that direction.
Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
The next NG/DC game will be a Jump'n'Shoot game. I guess that's rather old school...yojo! wrote:Is you next game going to be bullet hell or old school ? I really like last hope and I hope you would continue in that direction.
When it comes to shmups, we are big fans of offering different game modes. In Fast Striker novice and original mode can be played as an semi old school shmup. Maniac is for modern score players.

What's a "Jump'n'Shoot game"? A Contra-style platformer?
Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
For us a Jump N Shoot involves 8-way scrolling, so nope. ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

It really is great. I went back to TRY again to get a second impression today, and in the process threw about 10 coins into the machine. Every time I play it, I find something new that I like. (Not to mention that I'm falling in love with TRY!) I'm hoping that the Dreamcast version will be a 1:1 copy of the MVS experience.. Maybe even some bonus features..?ROBOTRON wrote:RHE...I want that Fast Striker game. Give it to me for testing. I have a Neo Geo AES and an import DC.

maybe we can expect a 2players mode for the dreamcast version.
and for RHE, will the dreamcast version have updates like the msv version ?

Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
We consider a 2P mode but it's not confirmed yet. About beta testing we only let people test the DC version who already have tested the MVS version to avoid any hassles like signing NDAs etc. I hope that's okay.
Only the MVS cart has an update function.

Re: New Neo Geo / Dreamcast Shooter Fast Striker by NG:DEV Team
How is it possible to release for Dreamcast at this point? I was under the impression that GD-ROMS are no longer pressed, and that not all Dreamcast models can play selfboot CDs.
I must be wrong about one of these.

edit2:
there are lots of claims on the web that models made after Oct 2000 will not play MIL-CD, but apparently you just have to structure the disc a little differently. So that explains it.

I know you were saying you wanted to use an ARM based architecture, but would it be possible to license an already existing, fairly powerful for shmups, but not so popular platform like the Neo Geo 64 and customize it to your needs?THE wrote: I have worked with the ARM/XScale architecture both CPU and MCU now for 7 years or something. This would only make sense if it was financially viable, programmable for your needs, and cheap enough to remanufacture.
