Heres my Egret 2 finished restoration

Hey Manouchi ! Are my eyes bugging or did you repaint your Egret 2 bezel in balck ?? As far as I can see it looks very nice.

I am actually thinking about it since that's the thing that was about to make me choose an New Astro City at first.
It's probably more a psychologic thing but I find the black arround the screen globaly makes the picture look deeper.

If so how did you proceed about the repainting ?

I also like a darker bezel. But I didnt want to wander too far off from the original E2 color.
I repainted it with a color thats just a few tones darker than original. (Though it looks black in the pic its only the camera effect.)

I just wet-sanded the bezel down with 600 grit paper. (Its very soft so be careful.) And painted it with some car paint:

My E2 bezel on one of them has a couple dig marks in, I'd want it the same colour if I redid it though.

I guess its my time to show mine. I've had the blast for about 4 months now. I just grabbed the E2 a week ago.
Ignore the monitor issue on the E2, that was me messing with the monitor controls shortly after getting it. She needs a quick clean up but overall everything is in good shape. Monitor is burn free and the side art is in good shape.

Is glossy a good idea? Won't you get image refraction?
i.e. It may reflect the image on the monitor? A nice satin finish should do.

You're right, I did not think about it.
Now I can't remember if the one on the Egret 3 is glossy or not ... I thought it was but not sure anymore.

Its glossy yeah, but its not a gel coat such as on the E2 bezel. I'd only do mine if I could get it identical to stock. So I'm not bothering.

My Blast City arrived today from Ken (thegameroom)! Ken is a cool guy, he came in person delivering to my doorstep. He had no issue helping me wrestle this beast into my room, just needed to remove the cp. Its a great feeling when you get your first cabinet . Forgive the quality of the pictures but I only have the camera on my cellphone to take pictures with.

How it looked after getting it into my room.

After a slight bit of cosmetic changes, cleaning it up (hard to see in the image but a good amount of dust came off the surface), and then rotating it with the help of Akraten (thanks for all the help you are the best!). I still have a replacement overlay to put on, to get a move strip printed out, a few places to repaint, and I need to get the anti-glare off the screen as a part of it is faded/smeared.

Overall really happy with the cabinet and it wasn't too dusty. The insides could use a more detailed cleaning but I just did a functional sweep out.

Just wondering what you mean by standard resolution, and how that's different from just using rgb out from the DC.

I had a Universal Video Converter lying around that I got a couple years ago for another project. I decided to wire it up to convert the Dreamcast VGA box output. That way I can switch it over to meduim res for the Dreamcast if I want, or hook up a PC.
I made a video when I powered it on for the first time that shows the setup before I cleaned everything up and stuffed it in the cab:

Just moved my cabs to a new apartment:



It took about two hours to get the PC and consoles all hooked back up inside, but it was totally worth it. The new roommates are so psyched.
