There are times when it resets in "destroy little enemies" mode as well though. Look at just before the 2nd boss. I kept losing my chain on stage 3 as well (not in video). Could be b/c it was so low it rain out real fast, but I don't think so. I was too busy worrying about my beard.

Only pattern I could figure out at all from the video is that it looked like you'd drop the chain instantly if you either had a Hyper in stock or active. While in 'build up' it just drains. This is aside from dieing and in between levels of course. Looking at the other videos I can't see anything suggesting otherwise, but there isn't a whole lot of good footage to go off of.

I got it. I was sitting there at 0kb/s for about 10 minutes, then went for 1.5MB/s until it downloaded (in just a few minutes). I'll crunch it down to something human while retaining quality.

Definitely not "only" when hyper is active. I couldn't kep the chain alive for the first part of stage 3 to save my life, and I didn't have the hyper gauge full, and wasn't in hyper mode.

"It seems it has life" is often not an adequate legal protection in most jurisdictions.
More to the topic, though, those enemy shots were indeed pretty dildo-riffic. I like the idea that various shots can be turned aside when in hyper mode, though. It's a bit contrary to the spirit of danmaku, obviously, but it's occasionally nice to have a chance to clear out some of the screen real estate around you without having to resort to a bomb. The Shikigami series and Ikaruga (off the top of my head) both let the player do that kind of thing without really compromising on difficulty, which I've always found a nice touch as my eyes go a little batty if I'm staring at dense neon bullet patterns for too long.

You know, it´s not just easy like that. Don´t think getting a long beard will make you good at shmups. That´s what most newcomers to the genre believe but it´s simply not true. There is a lot more involved than just waiting to let it grow: Proper trimming, daily grooming - you have to really DEDICATE yourself to your beard. But in the end, you have to find the right path yourself - there is no "Where do I get da beardz?".
One tip I can give you, though - neckbeards don´t work at all. Start with a nice moustache and try 1cc'ing Battle Bakraid on Easy, and move up from there.

Beards are overrated tbh... I know most good players think growing a beard is the ultimate attitude, like joysticks are supposed to be the ultimate controllers and big tate screens the ultimate displays, but I can play well even after shaving sometimes.
