You could have just asked the guy a general shooter question.
It was probably Rupert H.

Anyway.

We have Pink Sweets and EspGaluda II up and running (plus others), but we need to solve a display problem for Futari BL and Pork. Mulletgeezer's pondered a few solutions but we haven't come up with a temp monitor/gun/stick for the arcade.
To be more precise, we have the gun and stick, but no lightweight portable monitor to run the boards on.
A heavy CRT with scart socket is not on the menu. It would require permission and it wouldn't be portable of course etc...

So, if any UK based attendee has the solution, please talk to Mulletgeezer.

He didn't look too slimy, but he was watching my terrible Progear performance with keen interest so I guessed he's a shooter fan.

And loosing at a fighter... to a girl who was doing a brilliant job of laughing in his face....

Speaking of the Casino Progear - is it the US or Japanese version? I'm closing in on the highscore table and need to know which version...

The Progear in Goodge should be a US or World version, Japanese boards aren't allowed (despite the fact that we put ours in  ).

Wrong varmint

I haven't had managed to make it down on Friday evening for a while now unfortuantely, so it wouldn't have been me. Should be down next Friday though, and definitely for the meet-up.

Whhhaaaat?!!! :x

Actually, I dunno which high score table you're talking about.?!:D

If you mean the Progear in Casino it doesn't save scores when switched off, and considering I took the level 4 boss to the brink, I reckon I woulda kicked yo ass. :P

Sorry, what I mean is this; weren't you worried that the fact the Casino version is the apparently 'easier' US version would lessen the impact/personal feelgood factor of your achievement (which I still think is a great achievement).

As for high scores, I meant the one on this forum. My score makes it on to the US high score list here. The one at Casino disappears every day or so.

And yes - you're certainly ahead of me! So get your score up here! I'm off to Casino right now...

If it's the US version it'll need to be on difficulty 2 (which is higher than the default) before you can submit to the shmups score table, so you may be out of luck there. :P :P :P

Yeah, I don't know. I'm not sure which difficulty setting its on in Casino, but the difficulty difference seems very marginal compared to how I play at home. Would be a bummer if it was set on easy (I would be less proud of myself
Check it out when you're there today Spadgy, it might display on the title screen!

I know that Pink Sweets and EspGaluda II are on Default (as I had them for a couple of days before installing them), but I don't know about Progear - Kaede is good at Progear and he'll be able to tell you at the Meet  .

Dam - visited the arcade before seeing your post Skykid. I'll check next time. Upped my highscore by just under 1 million on my first credit that visit though!

EDIT: Is it worth starting a 'Casino Regulars' thread in shmups chat for all the stuff in here that's off topic (like half the stuff I add!)?

That already exists on NeoEmpire.com, just use the Shoot'em up forum there.
NeoEmpire is basically a London site for London arcade regulars (mostly the fighter players, but there's a little corner for us  ).

Yeah I'm on there Spadgy - the mods and a lot of the guys are all the guys I grew up with hanging out in Namco Wonderpark. They're a funny bunch (although I confess I spend more time here cos shmups is my main thing at the mo.)

Yup, you must know everybody that I know Skykid  . We must have been in Namco at the same time, except I would have been over with Mills & co on the few shooters on the left side while I'm sure you were on the right with Simeon, Ryza & co.

Yeah, I was a KOF kiddie! Simeon used to kick my ass, but I remember him being kind to me and letting me win a little bit first.
Little Will, Mark Starkey, Ryan Hart, Eion McClaren, the Twins - all that lot. I used to work in old school CEX remember, so I ended up fraternising with the best (and worst!) at some point or another.

As I mentioned, both Rupert and I watched you and Laydock on Pink Sweets after ATEI - I didn't recognise you, but I'm sure you've changed a bit in the last ten years.
And you were suited n' that. :D

london meet

Post by mrcatalyst »

I'm currently looking into getting a coach trip from Bournemouth to London for this meet. I'd be looking to join everyone on the sunday. I could arrive early and leave late as coaches run all hours.
My main game is 3rd strike, are we going to trocadero and/or just casino in goodge street?
I've been trocadero many times before but will easily find Casino.
Thank u

I also love mars matrix and layer section (dc+saturn) so i'll enjoy watching/attempting any other shmups on the day aswell. I'm also keen to try out virtua fighter 5.

mrcatalyst - I think you'll be spoilt for choice with the Fighting titles. They even have Tekken 6 in the Troc now - savagely expensive though :? .
Third Strike is going strong in Casino, there was a Comp on it recently.

Yes all that lot and more  . Ryan's in Germany now and Simeon has done 'an Icarus' and announced a shock-horror departure from the scene  :( .

thanks.

So can anyone help with this? It'd be a shame to miss out due to not having a screen to display the supergun on. I doubt anyone has an LCD that can display low res so maybe a smallish CRT TV would be best, assuming the Casino management don't object?

Or we could use an old VGA monitor? I know lots of people are getting rid of these (I've helped to dispose of quite a few lately as part of my job) so maybe somebody could bring or borrow an old one and we could leave it in the casino over the weekend and it wouldn't be a big deal if anyone stole it or abused it. I have an RGB - VGA adaptor we could use with it, picture quality would suffer a little and there'd be some input lag but it'd be better than nothing.

weird answers exist !

need rgb>rca output. virtual glasses 52" (but this will be trouble for Tate :/), sony 5" psone lcd screen, or 12-4" screen with car battery (no joke i made this several times in wasteland places ^^). the dream : a small portable LCD projector would be so sweet in town projecting on some big white building

stay on earth. the more efficient? laptop with some tv card with rca video input, 2-3hours lifetime battery and easy to tate

such great nomad weird things make me more desperate to miss this !!!

RE: Progear, I thought it was something like this:

US default difficulty is 2
JPN default difficulty is 4

Raising US difficulty to 4 does not make it equal with the JPN version. The entire game was dumbed down for Western audiences. (As well as the voices being removed). I'll have a proper look into it later but I didn't notice any significant difference to my MAME version when playing it at Casino.

Even on US default, Progear is a tough nut to crack!

Nice idea but I'm not sure it would work; we'll have a laptop but we'd need a cardbus or usb video capture device that could upscale to something the laptop could display. Even if someone has such a device it would most likely be composite video input which would need a convertor and would look absolutely dreadful, also input lag might be huge.

A projector would work though, if anybody has one. A decent projector is certainly small enough to bring and would work fine with RGB scart input, all we'd need then is a screen or bit of wall, which might be hard to find in the casino. Or somebody could volunteer to be a human projection screen! A nice clean white t-shirt and ability to stand still for long periods of time will be required :) :)

Ah, my mistake - I thought all Capcom games had a default difficulty of 4 and that difficulty 2 was somehow higher than 4 and that the value was altered to attempt to make it roughly the same difficulty as the Japanese version. I was completely wrong

So at Casino, the US board is on 2?

I'll put my gun and stick in a rucksack and bring them down on saturday. I can always store them in the cash cabinet upstairs if they can't be used.

So the screen is up to someone who can figure out an easy lightweight solution and bring it down.
