How can you do that?

Started using the ship that is one size smaller and the game has become infinitely more enjoyable. Getting a little further than the default size ship is nice, but I feel like I am seeing more of the game while I play.

Does that make any sense?

Yes it makes the sense that you are not playing the real game this way

But if it helps you to have more fun, it's great ! :D

I may go back to default at some point, but right now I am having too much fun. Hopefully Cave games won't be above my pay grade forever.

As with DFK and DOJ before it, I've culled through a lot of what's out there and did a lot of my own research to write a general SDOJ FAQ. For most people here, it's old news. But for newcomers, I think it's a good read. Anyone still playing SDOJ and who wants to take a peek, let me know what you think and/or if I've made any errors. Thanks!

It'll be on GameFAQs soon...and I've given credit wherever it was due.

This is pretty awesome, I had no clue about the chain penalties in that depth.

Nice guide slateman ! :D

"Now, this glitch makes leaderboards easy to read though. They will be
broken up into Overflow Scores vs Non-Overflow based simply on the enormity of
the glitched scores."

thank god you cannot do that on the 360 online leaderboard

Great guide Slateman! Thanks for the work you put into it.

Has the 30k hits for Inbachi been confirmed? I know one of the videos posted here where she's been defeated, the player didn't have 30k hits but still triggered her.

Thanks, guys. Like I said, most of *us* know this stuff as we have read all 110 pages of this thread (or so). For newcomers though, it's nice having it all in one spot. I just wanted to see if I had anything wrong.

As for the requirements for Inbachi...you're right, Shalashaska, I don't know if the hits are a requirement or if it's a Rank or Hits requirement. I'm never going to figure this one out. I'll update that with your notes.

Since I just finally got SDOJ, I'm still so thrilled. Knowing it's the last thing we'll ever get from Cave...oh-so bittersweet.

It might be max hits of 30000+, as opposed to current hits.

Umm... what?

Feel free to add my translations of the story/character/dialogues in Arcade Mode and 360 Mode as well if you want to (although, I never got around to translating the dialogues in the 360 Mode). I have a link to it in my sig. You can find a link to my 360 Mode translation in the Arcade Mode Translation post.

Doubt it. Cave signed up for XONE development. Most likely, they have a devkit and are still on Microsoft Japan's payroll. SDOJ was almost certainly their last arcade PCB, though.

As I'll *never* face Hibachi/Inbachi myself, I messed around in training and felt Inbachi wasn't quite as grueling was Hibachi. Am I the only one? I thought I read that elsewhere as well. I could be completely wrong.

Still can't figure out the 30k hits/max hits thing, but from the little Japanese I can muster in my old age, that may just be an error entirely.

Pestro87, thank you for the offer to include your translations. I likely will do this. I appreciate that!

XBone development? Hrmph. One day I endeavor to get one...don't need it now though. Bringing some Cave games, perhaps I'd hasten that decision.

Working on another DDP document now...this one is a massive undertaking. I'll have some questions for you guys shortly once I figure this all out. Hopefully I'll have it all ready to present this week. I've been part of these forums forever it seems, I'm glad there's still such fervor for the shmup community. :D

Inabachi is definitely harder from what I've heard. I think only one player has actually managed to beat her at this point?

Inbachi is only easier than Hibachi in 360 Mode Shot, possibly in Laser/Expert 360 Mode as well. But Arcade/1.5 Inbachi is definitely harder.

Also, I don't remember the Inbachi clear ever hitting 30,000 hits, but I'd have to go rewatch it to check. It does hit 20,000 though.

Last year at Stunfest, Clover TAC said that nobody (at that time) has beat Inbachi and he thinks that probably nobody will / it's impossible.

Thou the very first day of the 360 port release, someone beat Inbachi, which I still think it's kind of weird.

From what I could see myself, Inbachi is defenetly a lot harder than the already stupidly hard Hibachi.

Anyone beat the stage 3 midboss no hyper/no bomb consistently? I usually hyper in the second form because the thing just spams bullets and those building turrets spam at the same time. Would be cool to see a few runs that handle that well without hypers or bombs. There might be some replays on the 360 but I hate having to fast forward all that way without being able to rewind.

Using your Hyper (level 9 or 10 at least) on mid boss 3 is very common and recommended for scoring reasons anyway, if you wanna see some run without hypering this mid boss, then you should look for a good Expert mode run, they usually don't use hyper there in order not to rise the rank for later in the game, not to mention that this section in Expert is 5 times more difficult than "normal" arcade mode !

Whichever solution I choose the game looks like shit. I'm using a 4:3 LCD monitor (don't worry guys I'm also using a scanline generator). Sorry if this has been dealt with before, but I don't really want to go through over a hundred pages...

Nah picture looks just as shitty without scanlines. Seems like I can't find the native resolution of the LCD? All other Cave games look splendid on the same setup...

Are you sure the game is scaled correctly? I couldn't fix the aspect ratio on a 4:3 monitor at all.

I mentioned this in the GD thread, but I might as well say it here just in case.

You can now select Saya (I think that's her name) using an arcade stick by selecting the Back button. This is good news for me, because I wasn't about to go and buy another stick that has access to the L3 button.

I tried buying SDJ in Akihabara but the assistant said it was JP-only. Was he mistaken, or is there a region-locked version of this game as well? Also, anyone know where I can pick up a copy in Shinjuku?

Voices are sometimes useful. I actually keep the voices on in Mushihimesama Futari, because I have difficulty to notice I died if I don't hear "Panamoooo".

Can anyone tell me why bullets get a pink aura around them after your bullets have hit them? Does this mean/change anything? Never quite understood the purpose.
