Holy shit the loop. Stage 1 boss had me close to tears (note that that is probably the only time you will ever hear me say that sentence).

Up 'til this week it had been nothing but Battle Garegga, Pink Sweets Arrange Mode, and Score Rush. Lots of Score Rush.

Since Wednesday, it's been all about the Silvergun (XBLA, natch), and some Ballistic. Oh, and Score Rush. Still lots of Score Rush.

I got killed by the Area 5 miniboss in ALLTYNEX Second. Most of my lives are lost at the time between Area 3's Boss and the entirety of Area 4 (Mainly the second miniboss and the part where a satellite uses it's Ion cannon to kill you.).

Come to think of it, I don't know what to play next, ring^-27, Reflex, Dragon Blaze, or Erst Kerf...

I have played a lot of ring^-27 today.

Holy crap, there are a LOT of bullets when you play as the ship that uses the bomb. If you don't want to deal with enemies that fire bullets when they are killed, you have to kill them at close range. I made much better progress with the Bomb than with the Anchor, and I might as well use the Bomb as my main ship.

The game gets really hard on Stage 3, and that huge battleship wiped me out.

^ It took me a while to get the hang of the mechanics (and the polygons) but I think I'm going to have to agree. Especially in regards to the music. That last stage theme is simply divine. As for me, I think it's about time I get back to Cotton Boomerang. That Dragon boss is a dick.

I started playing DoDonPachi again.
But I mainly played R-Type today. I,II & Leo. I've never loved a hori this much.

Earlier I was playing R-Types to test out a Hori stick I just got (Tekken 5 anniversary stick). Other than that, I've had a mostly single-minded focus on X-Multiply. Both ways, I'm trying to decide whether I prefer shmupping with an arcade stick or a digital pad.

Yeah, you can dub me "resident Irem fanboy" if you really want to.

Been playing Akai Katana Shin and Diadra Empty the past few days. Took me a little bit of time to get my PS3 controller working properly with Diadra Empty and the buttons mapped well. Had to set the driver to emulate a PS1 controller to use the d-pad via MotioninJoy.

Is there anywhere I can get alternative drivers for some of my USB arcade sticks? A lot of games just don't seem to work correctly with them. The directional stick doesn't work but often the buttons do. Something like MotioninJoy but for more than just regular PS3 controllers would be great. My 360 arcade stick works great for some games and for all Steam games but only works correctly on maybe half of my doujin games at most.

Dragon Blaze, as Ian. Made it to 1-3 and BAM! I died there! At least I have a Technical Bonus in 1-2...

Also, I'm trying to get a hang of Progear's gem system, but by the time I reached 1-2, those flying tanks are killing me.

Tech bonuses are amazing. The Stage 4 and 6 tech bonuses, in particular, are very impressive to pull off without bombs. Keep plugging away at DB - it's a great title.

As a quick-n-dirty solution, creative use of xpadder will often get you there. A lot of doujins will only accept the analogue mode which doesn't seem to work well with (360) arcade sticks. I always get directional sticking. So just program the dpad mode to arrow keys and leave it there. I don't know if you end up with input lag or anything. I haven't really noticed. Also have no experience with ps3 controllers, but it's worth checking out.

@MSD: Ballistic kicks ass.

I've been tasting the 1CC on Bakraid. Get to the cloud level maybe 1 in 5 tries, but at some point the march of bosses gets me. Tried boss mode for practice a couple times, but it seems I don't have fun w/o popcorn enemies.

I finally made it to Loop 2 in Cho Ren Sha 68K! I only got up to 2-2, though. The enemies that fire 3 aimed beams at you are a pain, thanks to suicide bullets.

Practicing some Raiden Fighters Jet. I used Ixion when playing this game previously, but this time around I started using a slave ship and it's working much better, mostly because I don't have to constantly worry about picking up a wrong powerup(and the hitbox is smaller but let's not talk about that).

Real Battle Phase 2 is pretty much the most awesome thing in the history of ever, too bad you have to get through Phase 1 to get to it and that stage is ass.

Finally nailed down a consistent method for killing that fucking stage 4 boss in Salamander, after years of letting it time out. Now I can love this wonderful game without a guilty conscience.

Sapz convinced me to get into Raiden Fighters 2 proper and it's blowing me away, didn't understand Seibu games for a long time but over the past year or so I've come to appreciate them a lot more.
