Is the hitbox any smaller in Expert mode like it is in Futari God/Ultra (compared to other modes)?

So has anybody seen any indication that the platinum reissue will/will not be region free? IIRC, wasn't there some issue with one of the previous region-free releases (Futari or ESPGaluda 2?) where the reissue was locked?

mine shipped today, will let you know once it arrives in about, lets say, a month.

edit: there is nothing like the smell of shipped game in the morning.

I don't think there ever was such an issue. The LE of Galuda 2 was region-locked, but the regular edition wasn't, and neither was the platinum re-release. I'd say you can safely order SDOJ.

Finally got around to downloading the patch. Is it true that the controls are supposedly improved? I don't notice any differences, but it's been a good 6 months since I've played that game. Answers are likely buried in this thread and I'm lazy.

[edit] Okay, seems there was a slight sound effects/voice patch, extra window bugfix, and say selectable in arcade mode via BACK button instead of r3. That it?

IIRC it also fixed a big that allowed you to farm coins from challenges without clearing them.

So, I used to play this game with Type A - Laser. It was really easy to keep a chain going by just keeping laser on the whole time. Now I want to start playing with Type A - Shot. My chain is dropping all over the place. Anyone have any tips?

I honnestly think that Saidaioujou is the easiest chaining system, it's really hard to loose your chain, worst case scenario, it's just drop a little (1/3), of course, auto bomb kills your chain...

There is no secret technique, just know the enemies placement and manage to kill them at the right time, it's even easier in shot mode honnestly.

But obviously, Lasering big enemies to keep your chain going is one of the key. Don't even think of shooting mid boss or bosses, you HAVE to laser them or your chain will drop.

you kinda had your answer in your question "a chain going by just keeping laser on the whole time"

Play-Asia has it listed as region free.

I'm going back to Type-A laser. Now, if I can only get the stage 4 mid-boss to stop kicking my ass that would be great!

That one is absolutely brutal. I fare best when I'm able to save up a hyper. You can beat it fairly quickly with, for instance, a lv5 hyper. This isn't really helpful if you are playing for score, though.

Spent all day on this thing today, it's a lot of fun and I feel barely any pressure to actually do well in the first 4 stages since stage 5 is so obnoxious that perfecting that stage is all that matters. So far my best run got me to stage 5, but my mind feels absolutely fucked. Tried to practice some Hibachi as well, but SHE IS A WHORE.

She's such a whore that I do everything possible to avoid her at the end and all clear the game without that bitch.

Fired this up for the first time in a while. I thought the patch was supposed to address the brokenness of Wide Mode on 4:3 tate displays. I guess that wasn't actually the case? :(

I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of judging the hitbox position, though. The way the hyper indicator moves in your peripheral vision (i.e., shifting around somewhat elastically as you move) really messed with my perception for a while.

never had a problem with that, using tate crt.

the shadows, i still sometimes confuse the last afterimage as the ship, and run into a bullet.

What I'm referring to is the fact that you couldn't stretch the playfield outside of the Wide Mode letterboxing, so you needed to turn Wide Mode off to play the game which would, in turn, cause the menus to expand far beyond the edges of the screen. (So, basically, you needed to turn Wide Mode on for the menus, and turn it back off to play the game.)

Do you not have that problem?

as long as the game field is onscreen in full 4:3 glory, i dont really care. but yeah, the menus are weird with the wide mode off.

Bought it from Play-Asia this past Thursday...waiting desperately for it to ship.

First played DDP on MAME (Sacrilege, I know), DOJ is my favorite shmup ever. Wrote a FAQ and made my first shmup artwork site b/c of it. DFK was a fun romp. I'm older now, not as much time to dedicate to games. Wrote a FAQ on this too. SDOJ being the swansong...I'm crazy psyched to play this, even though I know it'll beat my ass down repeatedly. Don't care. If I had $200 I'd have gotten the SLE. $30? I can do that! Sorry for the rant. Can't wait.

Welcome back slateman, I hope you like the game (SDOJ), it is rather flashy especially compared to the dark style of DOJ. I love all the do-do games, but DDP is still my favorite in the series.

The steel bookcase has a different disc... What's the difference between the limited edition and the standard edition? Are the games any different? Are they the same game?

The game itself is the same across all versions, the two "limited" editions just come with extra collector stuff.

I see. It's because I was curious because the disc in the steel bookcase looked a bit different in than the disc in the standard edition, it has the Limited Edition's cover art instead of having Shuri, Hikari, and Maria on the disc art.

Not that I know of. I have the reissues of Espgaluda II, Mushihimesama Futari, and Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets and they all play on my US 360.
