Most of Cave's 360 stuff does this for some reason, it's kinda silly.

2) no you can't, that's the only Cave game that i know on 360 that does that

Fuck everything. I just paid $70 this month for a used LE of SDOJ because people told me this had bombed and probably wouldn't get a reprint. Goddammit.

This game sold very well, actually, beating Cave's expectations. Besides, the LE is well-worth it.

It's just that I was holding on for the longest time and I had to break the piggy bank for this one. Oh well, at least I'm enjoying it immensely. Kinda counterproductive given that I should be focusing on school. lol

This game is getting a Platinum reprint petty quickly as far as I can tell... maybe my mind deceives me, was it March 2013 or May?

Either way, nice to see it hopefully being made more accessible (price-wise) for importers and others.

It's a nice package with modes and unlockables and whatnot. The biggest issue with the game is the utterly obscene difficulty of your basic arcade mode. Well up there with the hardest games CAVE has ever created. Probably the hardest ever.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

On the plus-side, this game has a very accessible novice mode, which I, speaking as a relative beginner in this genre, found to be well-balanced.

The Novice of this game is comparable to a normal clear of Mushi Futari IMO.

I have pink sweets. By comparison to SDFK it's utterly nothing. Nothing all.

I've only played Futari a couple of times since SDOJ has been taking up most of my shmupping time. What I meant to say was that the difficulty curve in the novice mode suited me very well. I never felt as if I was hitting a wall where I had no idea how to make it through. This doesn't mean that I didn't think it was pretty difficult for a mode that is called 'novice'. It took me at least a dozen hours to clear it. Then again, my only other 1CC at that time was Death Smiles with Rosa. The cool thing was that after I managed to clear SDOJ novice a few times, I played a few credits in some other games, and noticed significant improvements of my playing ability.

the arcade mode isn't hard, it's the combination of enemy placements and large hitbox that require either really good dodging(and not autobombing) or a good survival route
the secret extend is also way easier to fuck up than in other cave games

if you're average at best, trying to flail your way through you'll get nowhere, even on shot mode(and getting to st5 without a route will end up with you getting buttblasted before the 1st midboss)
shot/laser almost feels like cave's take on psikyo style gameplay, expert allows you to get away with some bullshit dodging

To be fair, the first 3 stages in pink sweets are a joke, SDOJ not so much.

Stages 1-4 are indeed not worth talking about and are definitely among the easier CAVE stuff. It begins in stage 5 which is still quite doable. Then stage 6 and 7 are way harder than your regular SDOJ credit.

So basically more than half the game (pink sweets) is crap. Glad we all cleared that up.

I don't know what they did to the rank on the port but if you aren't doing whatever you can to control rank, stage 4 on the pcb is harder than clearing lots of Cave games such as Deathsmiles / MBL / 2, Espgaluda, Akai Katana and original nonmax on Mushi Matsuri 1.5, and stage 5 is not even comparable it's so much harder.

I think you might be playing the wrong genre. What would be the fun about it if it was an easy game?
Calling it the hardest also sounds quite ridiculous. I think basically any of the looping games and stuff like PS (admitted, haven't played it but it looks very difficult) would be way harder than this.

2nd loops aside, SDOJ (arcade pcb) is one of Cave's most difficult basic clears no doubt about it.

Why set 2nd loops aside? They are parts of the game and you need to beat them to really have beaten the game.

I'm not tossing them out like they don't exist, I'm just putting them in another higher level of difficulty category. Difficulty of clearing 2nd loops aside, SDOJ (arcade pcb) is one of Cave's most difficult basic clears.

There are reasons some people do toss them out though, one being that playing a hardcore shooting game for that long without a break is often not enjoyable. I know when I cleared SDOJ I didn't want another second of it and I've felt that way on other clears. ~25 minutes is the best playtime for a hardcore shooting game. We could argue about it but you'd never change my mind.

I can see where you're coming from. Yeah, SDOJ is probably one of their hardest non-looping games. Just not one of their hardest games overall.

more emphasis on memorization, bigger hitbox, bosses full of mostly cheese attacks that require a strategy all the way from stage 2
