do you have a file of Yamato 2520 episode 3 anywhere ? :D
Thankfully no -- you know they cut it short from 7 episodes to 3 b/c it was so awful, right?

Sure, did, Sherlock Holmes. Come to think of it, I never even saw #3. If you want an updated Yamato, try 2199. I have yet to watch it but apparently it's not bad.

It's on Nico Douga for some reason it seems, although it's broken up into 30 minute "parts"... I think they were all 45 minutes each though?

haha no I just saw it as I was tidying up my anime folder and I had a look at the intro for 2520 and it had your name up there :p

Yeah Yamato 2199 seems ok, I amn going to watch all previous Yamato before I watch it if I can though.

No I think 2199 is the usual 25/30 mins size AFAIK

Ghegs wrote:I finally finished watching Musashi no Ken. It was a long project that I started somewhere around last summer, watching an episode here and there. It's a sports anime, focusing on kendo, and covers about 20 years of the main character's life, his kendo training, friends, rivals and competition. Very realistic and down-to-earth stuff, with all the happy and sad times that come with it.

The fantranslation was pretty horrible though, it looked like it had been translated from Japanese to Chinese to English by Babelfish or something. There were typos and grammatical errors everywhere, and its worst it was completely incomprehensible. But mostly it was possible to follow what was going on, even if they got the names wrong most of the time. "Musashi" was often translated as "six three four", for example...it's like they didn't even bother checking the machine translation, should've been pretty obvious that goroawase is not the purpose here.

Despite that, very cool show.
I really would be into the content of this - how bad are we talkin subs wise - on a scale of nought to crabstick - how bad?
If you can understand "Six three four - I challenge fencing!" to mean "Musashi, I challenge you to a Kendo match!" based on what's happening on the screen, you'll be fine.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

haha that does seem fairly difficult alright - which is a shame because I like the idea of a traditional martial arts based anime, which I could also show my children :) -

The artist whom did the artwork for the manga of High School of The Dead, Shouji Sato, did his own original manga called Triage X. It's been out for a little bit, stateside, and is even carried at the local Barnes and Noble outlets as well.

It'd be cool to see a OVA of Triage X just for kicks. In real life though, such American nurses work a standard 12-hour shift at a hospital with a three nurse team comprised of a head nurse and two nurses under her or his charge. It's a given alrighty.

I've been debating picking up the first volume of Triage X. I enjoyed Highschool of the Dead quite a bit, but mainly for the ladies.

or the whole of 0079 ? :D

that's how I started and look how great I turned out....o_O

I will admit though they are very good synopses of the series :)

the films are great, but I think you lose a lot of the Odyssean feel of the journey across earth bits in the film.

I heard the TV show is brutally slow. I like 70's shit though. Maybe I'll try it one day.

honestly it isnt that slow, certainly nothing compared to the first half of IDEON. It was my second anime I ever watched (apart from the few films back in the 90's Manga Ltd. era at friends houses/parties etc.), and I loved and love it :).

If you like the 70s feel you'll love it GP, loads of spacediscoey sounds and analogue bleeps and bloops all over the place :)

watching Arcadia Of My Youth - loving the atavistic memories stuff and the ultra blub blub scene halfway through - everytime I go back and watch another Matsumoto thing, I'm just reminded of that magic he has in his stories, I don't know what it is, but it's like when you watch them it's like you're already nostalgic for having seen them before, but you haven't - or something o_O

Currently watching Space Pirate Captain Harlock myself - not entirely sure what I think of it, but Harlock himself is manly as fuck.

But I have to say that I did not think that differently coloured subtitles for different characters was a thing that still happened in 2010 (which is when the fansub is from according to the title cards).

Before that, I watched Bodacious Space Pirates which was amazing in every way.
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

Didn't seem that slow from my watch. Great stuff. Not perfect, but hey. 0079's still top notch.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I don't mind different coloured subs if it's something where there might be lots of 'overlapping' conversations.

they're the Live-Evil subs are they? (I think theyre the only ones)

Yeah I do think that the Harlock TV series can feel a little slow at times, but honestly it is worth it in the end, I found Yamato TV series much more consistently paced. Having said that I still love them both ;p

If you are tired of the same old moe or shonen rubbish in manga then try stuff like Freesia or Tropical Citron by Jiro Matsumoto, especially the former.

Then follow that up with a bit of Blame! and Biomega by Nihei Tsutomu.

First author for his unmatched dystopic atmosphere in Freesia and second author for bately intelligible narrative combined with breathtaking science fiction art ala the best 70-80's Franco-Belgian bande dessinée authors.

Jiro Matsumoto is indeed one of the greatest manga authors ever. Anyone interested in the medium should read his stuff.

TV show didn't aged too well plus they still had some 50sish Sci-Fi concepts like ESPs (Newtypes). I always thought the Newtype concept was beyond fucking retarded. What can I say, I like the Gundam models more than the actual TV shows.

So I just got my Ai no Kusabi Yaoi novels in the mail. Good shit to read if you are willing to get Yaoi reading a chance. Also it's Sci-Fi to boot!

Your recommendation was spot-on, thanks for recommending it, being a history nut, I enjoyed the historical fiction, it was a thrill from start to the end, the last chapter is definitely... I won't spoil it for everyone else. I've started reading Historie as well, i'm surprised how brilliant those two mangas are.

Just watched Claymore, and it's one of the best anime series I've seen in a long time. On the surface it follows standard Shonen tropes (hero gains new skills to defeat even stronger enemy, and so on), but the storytelling and depth of the characters is brilliant. Some of the plot setups are straight out of a greek tragedy. Reading the manga now and it's just as good.
