DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
What are the chances of a Black Label re-release of this game? I'm a bit hesitant to pull the trigger and get this if next year Cave goes and puts out a superior package that includes both the original version and a new arrangement.

Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
The Xbox port includes two arranged modes (Arcade 1.5 and Xbox 360), so I would say that the chances for a black label re-release are zero. Also, Cave went all out with the limited editions. Fiddling with just one of the modes and hoping that people would buy the game again arguably wouldn't cut it.

Well, they did put out a budget package of the original and BL versions of DFK eventually, not to mention a Platinum edition of Deathsmiles with some of the DLC on it (not to mention the Cave Shooting Collection, if that counts) but I very much doubt something like that is in the cards for SDOJ.CStarFlare wrote:You're worried about a situation that has literally never happened.

Well, if anything, a Plat. Col./Cave the Best release would be better off so that people that don't have it yet, can pick it up cheap, if and when that ever happens...>_>BulletMagnet wrote:Well, they did put out a budget package of the original and BL versions of DFK eventually, not to mention a Platinum edition of Deathsmiles with some of the DLC on it (not to mention the Cave Shooting Collection, if that counts) but I very much doubt something like that is in the cards for SDOJ.CStarFlare wrote:You're worried about a situation that has literally never happened.

Well, SDOJ was the 16th best-selling X360 game in Japan this year (according to Amazon). A "Cave the Best" release might be possible.

That's impressive. I wish more Americans liked shooters. If that were the case we'd probably see more releases. : (Oniros wrote:Well, SDOJ was the 16th best-selling X360 game in Japan this year (according to Amazon). A "Cave the Best" release might be possible.

I blame marketing. If more money was put into engaging and effective marketing execution (not just little anime babes on the cover), more people in the states would be buying these games. Even traditional might work. Remember when FF VII released an ad on television before its stateside release? RPGs were not big-ticket games in the states at the time, but the game was a huge success despite this known fact. It helped that the game was excellent, but it also helped that there were effective methods of engaging players.
SDOJ is probably one of the best Cave releases I've seen in recent years. It could have been the one to keep Cave working on shooters. If there was maybe a few select placements in traditional, and then perhaps a couple experiential executions in major markets...perhaps live contests with top players and some decent PR on the events... SDOJ could of been way more of a success on this side. The biggest obstacle is getting players into shooter culture and...you know, why we like the games to begin with. Exposure to the intense difficulty of the games and the complete finesse of the top players could have seriously galvanized interest.
Sorry for the rant, but yeah. I just think shooters have potential for a lager demo.

Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
I think they are doomed to stay Japan arcade (if we're lucky), ios 99 cents and doujin PC. Best hope is that the Japan arcade games get released on a real pcb and some get ported to consoles. ios looks to be the system where developers will make a game in whatever the hell genre there is or make up a new one. Development costs for an app on the app store I bet generally isn't 1% the cost of console shits.
I went to my friend's house the other day and every one of his 360 games was a first person shooter and he acted like that was the only genre of game there is on the 360 besides fighters which he thought were lame. It was pretty sad. I don't think he would last 10 seconds on SDOJ arcade. I don't think there is any hope for the genre to become king again. I've been waiting for fps to die out since Goldeneye 64 and they haven't faded the least bit.

Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
I don't want to derail this thread, but I think it's worth pointing out that the latest releases of both Call of Duty and Battlefield performed relatively poorly. Industry rumors say that CoD sold just about half of what the previous iteration sold, and if you check those games on Amazon, you'll see that they are already heavily discounted. I think you could buy Battefield 4 for $20 on Black Friday, a few weeks after it was released. Also, a lot of FPS and TPS (third-person) games completely bombed this year, games like Fuse, Army of Two, or Dead Space 3. It seems there is some fatigue.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:I've been waiting for fps to die out since Goldeneye 64 and they haven't faded the least bit.

Finally. I've hated them since day 1. When I was a little kid I used to dream about the day when videogames would look like "real life" like that. Then it happened and the games were no fun.

Even the new Twinbee game for LINE is just a Dragon Flight clone which is also restricted to the Japanese market for god-knows whatever reason.
But Otomedius (as the first thing that comes to mind) sold pretty well in the states, all things considered did it not?I blame marketing. (The info I got was from vgchartz, so please tell me if I've missed out anything vital in my claim)
Sure, it did hurt the franchise quite a bit in the long run but I would prefer to think it's because the Japanese market for the two home releases "Gorgeous" and "Excellent" suffered because of low Xbox 360 sales during its run.
Those are interesting points you have brought up; I never really thought about it that way.Even traditional might work. Remember when FF VII released an ad on television before its stateside release? I don't really think FPS games are dying out, I just think that the Call of Duty / Battlefield model was thoroughly explored last gen so gamers see them as "last-gen shooters," and so we'll need a new series to shake things up and get people fired up again.

That and Cod seems to get worse with every installment. I have a few friends who were diehard fans of the series but even they look at COD: Ghosts with disgust.

I really wish they'd start selling the MP stuff cheaper and separately. That would also make the frequency less obnoxious.
That said, I haven't bought Ghosts yet.

Ok, I'm late to the Saidaioujou party, and also just noticed this upside down (bug?) when setting a custom wallpaper on my LCD cab. Are there seriously no options to fix this other than rotating my monitor the opposite way just for this one game? *facepalm*
Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
I don't see how this is a "bug". You've got the option to set a wallpaper for vertical orientation, but you rather argue on the forum instead of rotating your monitor the other way. Besides, it's a purely cosmetic effect. During play you won't notice the wallpaper anyway.
Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
Yes, I understand its simply for aesthetics, which is why it doesn't seem worth the trouble rotating an LCD arcade cabinet the opposite way just for this one game when every other Cave 360 port supports either rotating the background or linking the screen orientation to the background orientation. I guess I'll leave the backgrounds off.

Does it sometimes freeze or is something wrong with my xbox? I just restarted the run and it froze on the "press start" screen

My game has frozen a couple of times in the menus, not during gameplay.
Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
Not every monitor works like that. Now I don't know which way these wallpapers are orientated, but I know for a fact my monitor only rotates clockwise.Bonus! wrote:I don't see how this is a "bug". There is *one*, literally, just one; tate wallpaper which rotates the other way. VGChartz is notorious for fabricating the sales numbers they post, so they're generally not to be trusted (especially with regards to the sales numbers of niche games).hecheff wrote:But Otomedius (as the first thing that comes to mind) sold pretty well in the states, all things considered did it not?

As for Otomedius, Gorgeous is currently tied with Deathsmiles as the best selling 360 shooter in Japan. Their known sales totals are quite comparable to those of Japan's best selling shooters on PS2, so console sales numbers have little if anything to do with it. I'd say the two biggest factors that affect a shooter's sales potential are quality (as determined by the whole target demographic) and marketing.

Re: DoDonPachi Saidaioujou coming to Xbox 360 (REGION-FREE!)
I think that might be partially correct; I don't remember seeing much marketing done for the 360 release of Gorgeous. I think it managed to reach the sales it received thanks largely to the good word of mouth the arcade version got, since the arcade version was quite popular during its heyday. But with shooters, good marketing (assuming we're talking about cute anime character designs here) won't help a "low-quality" game sell great (see: Otomedius Excellent, Mamoru-kun, Strike Witches, et al).BulletMagnet wrote:And as Otomedius demonstrates, deficiencies in one can be made up for by the other.

Cave's last 360 titles, it's a bittersweet run they've had - mostly sweet of course.
Somehow I never did learn my lesson and was always happy to preorder the most expensive version of nearly every release. $32 shipped is such an insanely awesome deal for this game, it's pretty crazy that their 360 ports didn't earn them a goldmine considering how well Deathsmiles did for them. It seems like yesterday I was importing my JPN region 360 and very first cave title, where have the last 5 years gone

Got some newb questions here:
1)Is there a way to get rid of (or at least dim) the indicator that appears under the ship when you have a hyper available? My peripheral vision picks up that damn thing better than the ship, with controller-throwing results.
2)And this one's probably dumb: how come it never asks for my initials when I get a high score? It's not a big deal, as it saves the scores (as "CAV") and I'm the only one who plays on the system, but still... Cave shouldn't get the blame for my paltry scores.
