Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Been playing a bit of Zero Gunner 2 again lately. I mainly want to finish my Shmup Treatise with the Stage and Boss walkthroughs, but also practice the 2nd loop. After lots of trouble getting back in, I got my 3rd best score yesterday. I think I even no missed Alpine Armored Train once as stage 2-1 (because I had a shitload of special attacks and used them all), this boss is just ridiculous.
Also XOP Black Ultra.

Just picked up Mushihime-sama Futari 1.5 (360), and have been playing DeathSmiles (iOS) and Trouble Witches Neo (XBLA).
Granted, I'm not the best shmup player, but I try.

I am not very good either, but I was much worse before getting into Futari. Playing on Original really trained me for harder shooters.KidKobun wrote:Just picked up Mushihime-sama Futari 1.5 (360), and have been playing DeathSmiles (iOS) and Trouble Witches Neo (XBLA).

Eventually, I would recommend Black Label. Its generally considered easier to clear (although it can appear more difficult, your characters are much stronger), while more complex to score.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I see it on the Market place, but I'm wondering if I can DL it through the .com and assign it to my US-based console when I get home..?dunpeal2064 wrote:I am not very good either, but I was much worse before getting into Futari. Regardless, I think that this will be some d**n good training for me. I just hope that I have the patience for it.

I only have like 4 or 5 achievements left on Deathsmiles (360): I can't for the life of me make it through the game without using a continue. Uuuugh. Got everything else though.

Thats what I did. Its under something weird like Black Lavel or something. But yeah, I have Black Label on my US 360 on my US account. Sadly, now that I have a jp 360, probably gonan end up re-buying it, just to have it on both systems, since I enjoy it that much.KidKobun wrote:I see it on the Market place, but I'm wondering if I can DL it through the .com and assign it to my US-based console when I get home..?dunpeal2064 wrote:I am not very good either, but I was much worse before getting into Futari. Stage 5 boss of GB2 is a bitch. Practicing it on high rank doesn't seem to make it any easier, either...
I'ts fun to play while listening to "What Is Love", though, because what isn't?

DDP, and hating every fucking frame of it. JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN 1ALL SO I NEVER HAVE TO PLAY YOU AGAIN EVER.

A common sentiment. I do wonder we always suggest that noobs play Dodonpachi no matter what.Deca wrote:DDP, and hating every fucking frame of it. JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN 1ALL SO I NEVER HAVE TO PLAY YOU AGAIN EVER.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
As much as I've grown to despise it, I still feel it's a really solid entry into the world of shooters. I used to enjoy it, until I saw the later stages. I've died just before the final boss so many times that I can't STOP playing it now, I just need to get that 1-all. I don't think I'll ever be bothered to even consider trying to loop it (or any other game for that matter)RNGmaster wrote:A common sentiment. Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I actually looped it accidentally. If you full-chain Stage 2, which is relatively easy, you can get 400 chain which is enough to get you into 2-1.Deca wrote: As much as I've grown to despise it, I still feel it's a really solid entry into the world of shooters. Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Just getting into Futari at the moment. Looking at the colour of the counter every few seconds is seriously shitting up my games. Maybe a 1-sissy should be my first order of business.
Got into the top 100 on R-Type Dimensions' Classic Mode the other day, which wasn't too shabby! I don't think I'll bother chasing TodayIsForgotten's score, though.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Finally started savestating DDP, huge progress already. No bombing the 4th boss and finally starting to understand that last pattern of his. Also finally figured out the safe spots on his big point blank shots!
Now just to figure out the last two bosses, 1-all feels more within reach than ever.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Psikyo stuff, awesome fun. Not sure why I haven't played them that much before. Looking for 1-ALLs; S1945 and S1999 down, maybe S1945II or Sengoku Aces next.
I'd agree about a lot of memorization being helpful here, not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

I much prefer their newer games. '45 II is a great title, and it's possible to get a good score without worrying about picking up every bar correctly.Sapz wrote:Psikyo stuff, awesome fun. Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Yeahhh finally I could finish Gunbird 2....thanks RNGmaster for the recomendation, lot of fun and challenge with this game.
the final boss a Dog with a trumpet?
xDD
default in Dc is 3 and I used 4 lives. This is the only option I changed.
continues? of course
A lot hahaha
normal mode ( difficulty 5 i think) and in Original 1 ( I don't have Tv for tate
or better I don't know if my Tv can handle that)
Im not into Scoring, but I did good scores with that special ships who throw diamonds, and chains.
and of course no 1CC hahaa...i used my 1st continue in stage 1-4 boss.

I think the newer ones are probably better overall, but that's not to say the older ones aren't fun themselves. Sengoku Ace done, so I'll take the recommendation and go with S1945II next.RNGmaster wrote:I much prefer their newer games. 1-5 boss is really easy, but 1-6... more than makes up for that. You need to stay at the top to misdirect some attacks in that stage or you're pretty much going to die.Sapz wrote:I think the newer ones are probably better overall, but that's not to say the older ones aren't fun themselves. Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I've been playing Batrider. The game is Marvelous!
This would be a better recommendation for newbs in my opinion than DDP. It has an extremely varied selection of ships, normal course requires a little strategy but is not too hard to 1cc, and advanced course is really tough.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Do you find you have to do much rank control? I love Raizing but rank still has me licked. Or maybe I overthink it based on the STs.
I've been giving it a try myself, and was initially (and am still a bit) overwhelmed by the choice of fighters. Player select helps though. Been using Miyamoto (sp? the dragon) solo, and have been getting a bit more success. I don't really understand why they went with teams of three different fighters. Finding your speed suddenly changed when losing a life is a bit jarring.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I don't try to do much rank control other than limiting my firepower in the first couple of stages and making sure that I don't trigger any extra bosses. My deaths are usually caused by stray bullets, not suicides,
. I also don't worry about medal chains, in fact I've been purposely avoiding medals. I also avoid trying to get the 1-up on Highway.
I've also found it's much easier to just choose one ship rather than a team. It's too hard for me to adjust to different shot types and ship speeds on the fly. My score is usually about 2.5-3 million at the end of normal course.

Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
I've found 1-6 isn't so bad if you manage to plant charges on the problem spots early enough. The patterns are scary until you kill them fast enough that they don't really get a chance to fire at you.RNGmaster wrote:1-5 boss is really easy, but 1-6... more than makes up for that. Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
You don't need to rank control at all on Normal. You'll only really start to notice the game getting mad at you in the final stage, minimal control can make it a little easier but it's totally doable regardless. As for the team issues just use player select.Moniker wrote:Do you find you have to do much rank control? I love Raizing but rank still has me licked. Or maybe I overthink it based on the STs.

Batrider is a fantastic game, my personal favorite. It was also my first 1cc!

I was more referring to that giant cannon at the start which is really hard to dodge from the bottom. The planes and pre-boss turrets are easy with Hayate, but then again what isn't?Sapz wrote:I've found 1-6 isn't so bad if you manage to plant charges on the problem spots early enough. I'd love to see you loop this and post it on YT. Might give me the incentive to 1cc it myself. Stage 6 boss is a wall for me ATM, but maybe watching your strats would help.
Re: Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?
Yeah, it's probably easier just to show you; I'll try and clear it again with an input and youtube it.
EDIT: Actually, nevermind about the youtubing, here's the input for use with shmupmame 3.0b. A few very silly mistakes, but still a 1cc.

Dragon Blaze. Would you believe, a Psikyo shooter with a hitbox you can sort of trust!
Maybe I'm a sucker for brutal shmups but I have no idea how this is considered Psikyo's hardest.

Stage 1-7. Midboss is hell, gets worse from there. Also rank. 1-6 boss is hell at high rank, and the only way to stay low is to power down constantly.ebarrett wrote:Dragon Blaze. Would you believe, a Psikyo shooter with a hitbox you can sort of trust!

That's from my experience, at least.
