Make sure to start on Shot mode though, as in 360 mode it's the easiest (Laser's a bit harder, and Expert, well, presumably no elaboration is needed, heh). I'd also recommend using Novice to get used to things, it's not as much of a cake walk as in some other Cave ports.

Starting to get near the Stage 4 boss. The second half of Stage 4 reminds me of the mid-section of stage 5 of DDP with all the swirly dudes.

The stage 3 midboss (So awesome!) reminds me of the stage 3 midboss of ketsui.

Wonder if I'll see anything else that reminds me of my other favorite cave shooters.

Hello there again, please do someone knows what I have to fulfill to earn big medals outta the enemies in 360 mode?.

I've noticed that the higher the hyper level startet the higher the GPBONUS in the upper left corner gets (max 3.0 @ max. I tought these two things were related but even at 3.0 gpbonus there are still too many small medals.

Edit: I think I figured it out by a long marathon yesterday and thanks to the help from the other thread. Thx Caga.

FINALLY found the time to fire up ye olde xbox and try this out and holy shit, this game is amazingly brutal. It's actually the first time I play the Novice mode of a Cave game because I can't see myself getting too far in arcade mode.

It's all because of the input lag.

There is no input lag. You are just looking for excuses for failing.

Yeah, choosing Shot mode makes a real difference. I didn't think of giving Novice a try, but I recall now that Novice mode was a nice way to get started with a previous Cave game that was giving me all sorts of trouble. Can't recall which, but I think it was in the Donpachi series.

Play 1.5, it's the improved version that didn't come with the usual PCB upgrade, and it's fantastic. Only marginally less brutal because more hypers, but so wonderful to play.

But play it on a crt, please, this game deserves it. LCD's just don't do it justice.

I like the cool holographic ads shown on the various buildings that change into warning signs within the first stage of DDP-SDOJ...a bit of slick graphic design magic right there. Reminds me of that cool holographic advertising vibe/feel from the classic 1988 Akira anime shown within the sprawling Neo-Tokyo cityscape.

I have this now and I like it quite a bit so far. I'm not too good at it, but I like the hyper mechanics and the variety of modes. The menus remind me a lot of Death Smiles. I heard this uses similar menus to Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets? It looks like I'll be getting that soon too.

There is input lag. I've proved this by slowing a video that I took.
Also, move -> pause -> unpause -> your ship moves even when you're not touching anything.
You have to be blind or something if you can't notice the ridiculous input lag during slowdown. Even CHUBOW agrees that "TAC could die for not doing anything about input lag, because he was in charge"
It's gross, I'd estimate 3 frames or more.

Even if there is lag it's not like it hardly matters.
And it's certainly not where the main difficulty of the game comes from.

I wouldn't call 1.5 the improved version but I'd call it something alright.

Did you try all 4 ship types? All ships seem to have different reaction times on my setup.

Type C got the most lag, like Cagar said, at least 3 frames.

Type A just feels a lot quicker.

AmiAmi ran out of SDOJ copies. Do they restock frequently or am I out of luck? All the other alternatives are at least $10 more expensive. :(

In my experience they don't restock. I think they ran out of SDOJ about two months ago already, though.

So does Type A not have input lag? Or just less?

A lot less lag than type C, at least on the 360 port. I have no idea does PCB have the same lag issue or not.

That's really weird though. With all the hubbub about this maybe possibly being Cave's last game or the 360 port being their console swan song, you'd expect something as simple as input lag to be taken care of.

Remind me to never fucking play Type C when I get this though. Ever.

They didn't give a fuck about 4:3 monitor players, although they did it right before. So i can imagine that the lag issues was shrugged off as well.

Well, Type C is a bit slower than the other types anyway, so why does none of you entertain the thought that the lag, IF there is any, is actually by design?
